    Learning it.
I see that wearing a spawning rares thief template in pvp doesnt work very well lol.

I also see that when the other players appear and disappear off the screen in the blink of an eye, its time for a new computer, but thats not going to happen just yet.

Sooo, what to do? I was working on a necro pvp template some time ago. Necro, ss, healing, anat, tact, resist, med. Is this still a viable template? After watching the speed of my toon vs some others, i dont think Ill do really well in pvp, but for me the number one rule for winning UO is- have fun. So, while i may not kill a lot of people, i do think i can work on 1). my survivability, and 2). a template that benefits my guild. With that in ming, i question the necro template, cuz i cant cross heal, cure, or rez. Maybe exchange necro/ss for magery and eval?

Im also curious about what pvp'ers consider "necessary". Of course a good weapon, but with the imbuing available, what is of primary concern? HCI, di, hla, hla, mr, hp regen, stam regen? Does anyone carry focus? What is most valuable to you on your weapons, your jewelry, your armor?

Any pvp paladins out there? How does that work for you?

Theres a lot of approaches, opinions, and templates. Id like to see them all, and pick through them before deciding which way to run. I wont sacrifice "fun' for ability, since without fun for me it just would never be worth it. So please, if you can spare a dime, give me your thoughts, hints, suggestions.

    Please, no arguments though.

    Thanks anyone/everyone ahead of time

I am in the same boat. I haven't PvPed in UO for almost a decade. Currently I am a thief, trying to get together a few soulstones so I can PvP some as well. I am going to go with a stealther temp so I won't need as many soulstones to get started.

One thing I've been doing to prepare is writing down all the PKers equipment that I see and trying to guess their temp. So far no one is running anything that is out of my price range so that is encouraging.

I have been testing temps a bit on test, but I need to either make a crafter there or find some source of equipment. The arties they provide just aren't a good representation of what I would be running here.

Getting into PvP fresh is a bit daunting. There are a LOT more factors going on nowadays than there were the last time I was active in PvP.

I would say, archery, as your bow will not need you to be close to your target or be able to target a player, before he run out of the screen. The bow will shot as soon he is near enough

This about finding a balance. If you use to expensive/powerful gear, but don't have the PvP skills to keep it, it won't work. Then better grap some stuff, that not cost alot but still support your skills.
You may still die more than you kill but you will be able to afford new stuff. PvP is fun as long you can afford losing your gear.

Find a friend or two and try out some templates at TC for PvP.

Yeah, a lot of c hoices. I like the paladion template- no regs, and base is figured from your karma, not another skill, but it may not be any good. I dont want to run a complicated or difficult template- just something useful thats fun to play.

Shooting arrows at a distance makes sense- takes away a spell casters distance advantage. I'm curious though- does an archer miss any more than a melee weapon? Man, it'd stink to train another weapon skill, though it might be worth it

paladin temps are tough to run here. you need 4/6 casting and maxed out hci. as far as gear goes and what mods to put on the gear it depends on the temp. Bo currently has a slow computer too and there isnt much you can do with any template that will help. If you have hide stealth ninja use it cause that will be your only way to get close to people and just hope you surprise them enough to kill them before they run away. It is what Bo has been doing.

Hmm. I already have those skills, tho I wish I could rumble a bit. Maybe I'm stuck with ambushing.

I also read that a paladins skills won't work on reds and criminals, so since I have guild mates who are red, that wouldn't work for me

My strategy on my previous toon was just to be frustrating. I knew that I was going to be fodder most of the time with my lack of pvp skill. But with poisoning, stealth & ninja I was at least able to shoo away the over aggressive wannabe pvp peeps, and make it a little more aggravating to kill me when I was attacked by somebody who was experienced. When running in a group I was just a distraction so the real talent could work more efficiently. ;)

I love being "just a distraction" myself. :) But i'm striving for Guilt by Participation instead of Association.

Yup I am tired of just selling things too...So I'm gonna die a lot me thinks. Mage weapon for fighting? or actual skill so can use specials? What say you?
  13. Touzoko Slightly Crazed

I think actual weapon- i like specials- but if youve played a mage for a long time, then a mage weapon might be for you. I see a lot of the pvp mages using them, so they must be good for something lol
  14. Zyn_UO Adventurer

If you are going mage with a weapon, Staff of Pyros is Mage Weapon -0 so you get to use all your magery skill with it.
  15. Bo Bo Seasoned Veteran

yeah its also 2 handed so you will not be able to use pots without disarming it. people use mage weapons to focus there skills more intensely on there casting skill. This gives them more skill points, to put other skills onto there temp like inscribe. Truthfully either build can be good, just pends on how it is used. UO did make it harder to play the tactics mage, you can no longer toggle a special and cast a spell. You have to cast the spell, than toggle the special.
