Instead of laying runes everywhere and in sometimes large quantities, how bout if we had runebooks with unlimited charges installed at every bank , like 2-3 where folks could drop 1 shop rune that be good for 6 hours?
It shouldn't be too hard to program a "de-dupe" feature to kick out runes within a certain diameter of the coordinates a prior rune in the book.
damn it! got it wrong again! Should had voted Nintendo, my first guess. I think there should be Real Public Librarys. City books, dungeons, quest books, lore, that sort of thing, Player driven and static, like some spend the lock downs on in their own house.
Might be something that could be done.... id say give the rune 24 hours in the book before the book purges them.
Obviously one couldnt put in more than 1 rune in a city book... once you have it in there why would you need to lay more on the ground?
whe 'i' said city book, I meant the kind like Most toons carry. At one time, recently, on LS, Mesanna placed a castle, solely for use as a Library, it was in the water, on the N. side of Glow, I think it's been abandoned and removed now. But one for vendors? NO there's web sites better suited for shopping, sorry.
there's a website for shopping yes, for luna and zento shops. For the rest of the folks that have a backwood vendor or a house for sale there's nothing except polluting the ground with runes...I do it too , because thats the only way...
I know one of the sites accepts runes for those non places. Mine's usually there, and I'm not in Luna - why I sell cheaper
Can we get back on topic please and leave the websites that break the EA/Mythic/UO (and fansites like Stratics) TOS/ROC discussion for somewhere else?
If it was limited to House runes, I'd agree with the idea; there would be too much temptation to put falsely labelled runes to Insta-death spawns otherwise. And it would be nice to see actual worthwhile libraries appear in the NPC towns; They could expand it too with Brigand bounties (the code is already roughly in for Pirates over at Sea Market on the noticeboard there) and Missing Person notices, and something for the Role Play guilds to announce their hosted events (The EMs may have to be employed to quickly check the notices are genuine of course) as well as expanding on my earlier idea for the Zoo here, but people can record what creatures they saw, what stats, maybe what loot they had on them even... give us a way of revealing the kind of world we live in! Wait, back to the question as it was asked. I voted Sega
I think the outcome here is clear. There is a mandate from the people. Devs, please implement nintendo ASAP.
I think a few mini-games might be nice, we have checkers, dice and a few things in dungeons - needs to be a way to signify your win/score tho, maybe to a gaming bulletin board?
This idea is often being presented but always brings up the fact that the book would be filled with runes and monopolized by vendors selling goods at high prices. They would find low priced vendors outside of Luna City easily and buy up their goods to resell from other houses outside of Luna City for higher prices. Nothing works. It is best if players rune around the country side checking vendors in private homes. That way you can find who is selling at fair prices and often by talking to the home owners you can arrange to buy items you NEED at fair prices, without paying the exhorbitant priced goods from those that control market prices. Again, I have found this works only for so long before someone starts buying up all my fair priced goods for resell or just to restock their vendors because they are too lazy to do the work. *sigh*... thanks for trying Hell's Ironworks. It is a good idea. Meanwhile just grab the runes left scattered around Luna and other high priced places and use them to advertise your shop - just don't scatter them around Luna City.
yeah best for the buyer... because they have nice cheap stuff that no one else has seen, but they're not great spots for the sellers.
No, they certainly aren't the best spots for sellers. Which is why I kind of like this idea, I often pick up the runes on the ground looking for a better vendor. Other than dropping runes, the only way for someone with a vendor house outside of Luna to get attention is to open gates.
Convince Players to run around the country-side marking runes to good shops - - I still do .. and revisit those shops. It takes getting into the habitual habit of spending a few minutes exploring random sections of UO when you have time, and mark runes to good player shops. Keep those runes in a special Rune-book for yourself and update them occasionally. The "ShOP BOOK" that I made was locked down on my Arctic Garden Steps accessible to anyone. I also asked others to leave runes to their shops, for that book. I stopped having vendors AFTER Luna City was built. Now I'm noticing that Players with Vendors that were once only found in LUNA CITY are setting up shops outside of Luna City selling their high priced wares some of whom are suspected of selling UO Gold and Items for real US$ from non-UO websites which is something I will not endorse.
I run around looking for shops too. But they're getting harder and harder to find. The good ones anyway...
