Well, the sign-up page is pretty.

I'm not sure if its going to be a Facebook based game, as it says cross platform. If it is Facebook only I'll give it a miss.

Maybe they can get those people to work on the UO website....

Well its for a beta sign up so I'd imagine its not out yet(the beta that is, I'm just watching my email). as for facebook and cross platform, it was only facebook that linked to an off site beta sign up. so its not like you signed up for it through facebook. I can imagine Bioware doing that. I'd assume, well be hopeful, cross platform just means different operating systems and gaming platforms. Idk. Id think mostly computing things, I doubt it be for all the consoles and stuff. I love Ultima.

Greaaat... so they ****** up the Ultima legacy and introduced classes. I guess they piss on the grave too by adding levels.

While i'm sure there will be more than just fighter and mage eventually, classes have existed in almost every real ultima game aside from ultima online.

Fuzzy male Wizard
Bobbit female Cleric
Elven male Thief

I registered as well.. If it's Ultima I have to give it a try I guess but I'm not a fan of Facebook.

.. The visuals do not inspire confidence, and that's about all I can say until they tell us more.

Read the MMORPG article.. Since they can't use Lord British (Garriott kept that), LADY British is his daughter.

I agree it's a little cheesy.. but since they can't use "Lord British" legally I guess they had to come up with something.. I'm sure a lot of us might have come up with something better.

I think I'll wait to see it before I judge it though.. I loved Ultima IV.

I was very happy to see in the MMORPG article where they said you won't have to be on Facebook to play it.

Its going to use Origin. No thanks.

I bet if they tried to buy the name back from Garriott he'd die laughing!

Read it - looks interesting, although not a particularly 'Ultima' feel to it from what I have seen so far (just using the maps and the names is not enough to get the entire atmosphere right'.... and I'll be happy when and if it turns out to be a good game, and not before

I have thought for years that what UO needed was exposure to a new generation of gamers in a technologically up to date game world, or a book, something, hell ANYTHING. Those same thoughts have been voiced on these boards way more times than anyone cares to count.

So, here's to it NOT sucking out loud, and exciting the interest of whole hordes of folks as to what the heck this virtues thing is all about. I hope we are ready and presentable for them when they arrive. Happy reading, hopefully I will be forced to remain mum on the subject in the very near future.

Weren't there reports of Garriott being seen leaving EA offices some time back? Perhaps they rented the name?

I have no problem with games like this. I played the heck outta Lord of ultima for about a year. Hope it is fun. May end up sparking some interest in ultima online to some peeps who may never have heard of/tried it before.

It's not a Facebook game. Cross platform means you can play the same account on a PC or on a mobile device like an iPad.

I am looking forward to playing. I like all kinds of games and any new game with the Ultima name can only be good for UO.

When they say "exact same plot" I presume they mean the actual Quest for Avatarhood? Which could be repeated by as many aspirants as possible theoretically, even down to the trip to the Codex of Ultimate Wisdom (nothing happens to it in Ultima IV, you go for enlightenment) ... but I can't see how they'd handle the wider, sub quests and background plot; it would be nice to see a few tributes, especially to Gwenno whose real life inspiration has since passed away... however I hope they pay attention to actually designing an in game world that actually is 15 years advanced from the Ultima IV Prime story.

I am glad to hear it doesn't require facebook. That means I will give it a try. Also, although I am not a fan of the big shoulderpad/silly weapons style of character art, I do like how the main image on the website is slightly based off of the Ultima IV boxart.

Also I like the map. But then I like maps. =P

They don't need to buy the rights back. They only need to pay to use it for this one purpose all legal like. Pay the man. Who don't like cash? Except for the baby in that Jimmy Fallon commercial.

Except, I think they are just following like, Lord of Ultima, and Evony, you know? Well, let's just call it the Everquest model: insert busty chick and be done with it.

That is his identity. Plus they are remaking one of his two favorite Ultimas, and even though it wasn't a web game like people thought, it does have a mobile version.

And they wouldn't allow Garriott to use the Ultima IP for his web/mobile games. That alone would have been enough for him to tell them to piss off if they wanted to use his IP.
