A while back I read some advice on how to reinstall the Enhanced Client, but can't seem to locate the thread. I am moving Windows (and Linux) to new 60GB SSD drives, and will have to reinstall UO EC. Going from memory, is this the correct/fastest way to reinstall? The EC forum is pretty dead now, so hope to get a response here. 1. Download latest EC and run the install. 2. Stop the install once it starts to make updates with the patcher. 3. Copy old .uop and .dds files to the new install. 4. Restart the patcher to finish the install, making sure it checks all files. I was told there is a way to avoid downloading the +2GB of files in the initial patch by copying over the .uop and .dds files. I am on a DSL that would take 12+ hours to download, IF it doesn't stall first.
I have backup copies of ALL my files... in triplicate. Two different hard drives and one on DVD's - learned that the hard way. But ya, I do need to copy those files over once installed. And Pinoc's UI. *patiently waiting for 1TB data drive to reformat (4 hours), resize and move (8 hours)*
This worked for me recently, within the last month, when the last major patch came through. I regularly use three different PCs and wanted to avoid a large patch for each one. The method you describe seems to have worked, for me, and I've noticed no issues thus far. To be fair - i do not use the enhanced client regularly enough to be absolutely certain. I seem to remember a thread recently about a large 'Hues.uop' file size. Doing the copy of files from my 'master PC' to another, this process did copy a rather large Hues.uop file (at 13 GB). I subsequently renamed "Hues.uop" to "Hues.uop.old" and upon 'check all files' selection - it 'redownloaded' and is now only 2 MB, so you may wish to keep that in mind (if the hues.uop on your pc is large as well).
Thanks for that tip. Mine is 2.5MB, so probably not worth deleting. I'm wondering if this has anything to do with the infamous memory leak in the EC.
