I have recently read several posts describing duping and wanted to know if there is a way to tell if an item or gold is duped? I want to avoid any counterfeit items (and report anyone selling them). Also, I was hoping someone could share the history of duping with those of us that are relatively new to UO. I returned about 6 months ago after an 8 year hiatus and have really enjoyed reconnecting with this crazy and highly addictive game but I am troubled by the tenuous economy.
There is no way to tell duped items from the real deal. They are an exact replica. The only difference is in the coding. Rule of thumb: If it sounds too good to be true, it is prolly duped.
They look like the original in MOST cases but we had a nice flood of duped items that only LOOKED like the original lacking all the properties the originals had hence the monk shrouds. Items on that list are as follows: Glacial items staffs spellbooks bandanas pants daggers skinning knives and so on Ethereal colored cloaks Black halberds Blue/Red glacialish halberds Red executioners axes silver viking swords Neon gold clothing Neon blue robes Various sigil colored stuff (You can tell legit for sure from dupes if the object is not plain such as a sword with more than standard props on it) There were a few more but I cannot think of them without looking around but that is most of them.
