Ultimate RPG: Richard “Lord British” Garriott Hints at Player Housing, PvP in Upcoming Game
Richard Garriott, better known as “Lord British” to fans of the Ultima series, hinted on Thursday that Portalarium’s Ultimate RPG may include both player housing and player vs. player (PvP) encounters. These elements, popular among Ultima Online (UO) subscribers, are likely to appeal to UO‘s existing fanbase. Posting as Lord British on Stratics Forums, Mr. Garriott requested player feedback in two separate threads:
- In a thread titled “Lord British needs your opinion on PvP!,” Mr. Garriott hoped to receive input on how to design a PvP system in an open-world environment that would evoke enjoyment from PvP lovers, while also respecting the safety needs of “newbies.”
- In a thread titled “Lord British needs your opinion on Player Housing!,” Mr. Garriott revealed that Ultimate RPG might include not only housing, but player townships. This system would seek to provide open housing, akin to the system used by UO, while simultaneously avoiding the infamous problem of “urban sprawl.”
Player-owned housing and PvP encounters are frequently cited as the most enjoyable aspects of UO, as well as other titles that feature these systems. To offer feedback on PvP or Housing, visit Ultimate RPG Stratics Forums or the Ultimate RPG Facebook page.
