Stratics is 17! What a milestone! A longstanding community that has seen ups, downs, joys and sorrows since 1997 when first formed. We’ve had a lot of adventures since then – the ownership of the Stratics brand having changed hands a few times being the primary. As it is, we are still here – and we plan to be here for many years to come!
Our most recent owner, Ryan “Ron Bron”, decided to let the community know what’s going on. Rather than bore everyone with words, here is a video of the entire Hangout:
In closing, and for better transparency, there is a new item added to the Stratics.tv streaming schedule – every 6 months the Staff of Stratics will hold an official “State of Stratics Address” for the community. There is also the new and public TeamSpeak server (ts.stratics.com). It is recommended that you download and use TSv3 to access.
As we grow and add more services, this biennial event will help the entire Stratics community (players, developers and game producers) learn what is going on with the eldest of gaming communities on the interwebs. Thanks to everyone who watches, and don’t hesitate to share! Wanna talk about it? Visit our community forums at this thread.
Please mind the mess! Watch out for the stray vowels! Mind you keep your hard hat on!
Our team of writers and geeks are burning the candle at both ends to make sure Stratics is able to provide you with the gaming information you want, when you want it, and how you want it. We know it looks a little messy right now – somethings went astray – we apologize for that. We’ll be back up and organized and running before you can slay that Ancient Wyrmm or take your guild raid through that heroic instance!
As you can see, we are bringing the focus back to our favorite games with better displays, quicker loads, and a much easier way to find content both old and new. No more waiting for a new domain to load – everything is where it should be right here at Stratics.com! We are working on some new standards, training more writers, and making sure everything works not just on your main gaming rig, but on your favorite mobile device as well. Our commitment is to bring you the latest news, the greatest commentaries, and the most informative guides. After all, that is what made Stratics… Stratics!
We appreciate everyone’s feedback. So much so that we have set up a Feedback Page. Tell us where we can improve, give us some moral support, explain what you want to see on the site, or just say hi! You can also visit our forum and discuss by clicking here.
Thank you all so much for your continued loyalty!
Welcome to the Heroes of the Storm page where we talk about our heroes that are in the storm like universe blizzard has created for us. For many of us these characters are so much more than your average MOBA experience. A lot of us have been playing with or against these characters in games for a decade or possibly longer. There is a certain upholding standard set for blizzard to create the characters we know and love and make them fun to play. Most of your MOBA’s characters are ideas ripped from multiple sources or just a collaboration of great minds to create new characters to play. This idea is where my main drive to play this game comes from. Just the fact that I can play as Diablo, Uther, or the Forsaken Lich King thrills and excites me far more than playing the huntress Nidalee or the famed Darius. Now i have some experience with all these characters and the games they are in and i can’t wait to experience a new game with my favorites in it.
Now of course, I played other MOBA’s for years, starting with HoN and moving onto LoL which consumed a greater amount of my play time, upwards of 2-3 years dedicated alone to LoL, and I must admit failed attempts to become pro or close to it literally took me down the path of quitting MOBA games. The eternal rage that is in some of these communities amongst not just the general player base, but also within the pro players continues to drive me away from these games. Living in a volatile community for a game that I play constantly was just not something I wished to do anymore as it was starting to affect my day to day as well in the fact that I was a becoming little rager myself at times which is no way to solve a raging problem. When we look at Heroes of the Storm with its new MOBA gameplay style that is almost entirely different from other MOBAs’ it brings a promise with it of a community that has to play together to win together, that is a reason to look forward to the day when I wake up to find a beta key in my email, so i can play it all day and still be playing in the blizzard universe that i know and love.
This game brings with it a new style of play with team based experience gain so no one is ahead or behind, a beloved list of characters to play from, and the fact that there are no items to make yourself more powerful also means no one can farm to get ahead and just carry the team to victory with an Infinity Edge or Deathcap all on their lonesome. Here in the storm we must work as a team to conquer all and crush our foes with a swift curb stomp on the innkeeper’s doorstep as we brawl our way through the enemy base. Now I’ve listed a few reasons why I love this game and you can agree or disagree with them as you will but these are some of the major attractions that bring me towards the game, and many other people into it. The promise of a TEAM based MOBA alone brings many people in who were driven away from the MOBA’s we all know and love because of their volatile communities, add in the love of characters they have played with for years and the experience of a MOBA not based on farming and you’ve got yourself a real winner.

Elder Scrolls Online recently took a poll of the players favorite builds to use in a new recurring series. This series is meant to highlight or explain some of the more popular or interesting builds that players have come up with. When they choose a build, they post it from the perspective of the player who submitted. I think this is a great feature because you get to find out how that person uses their build. The player also explains the gear and skills/abilities that they use and why, which makes it easier for others to decide if they want to try out the build.
First in line is The Shadow Knight, which was posted and named by ESO player Kraive Moar. He plays a Nightblade tank but also lists a secondary set up for DPS when his tanking skills are not needed. It is a very detailed build and very easy to follow. I hope that future builds in this ongoing series are as well written and explained as this one.
If you would like to submit your build, contact firstname.lastname@example.org, with the skills that you use and a description of the build!
ESO is taking Raid and Dungeons to the next level. They have come up with something more challenging, exciting, and dangerous than Raids and Dungeons put together. ESO has introduced the Trials. Trials are designed to test a 12 person group and take them to the edge. Just when you think your group cannot take another hit, they come at you again.
The trials have been extensively tested by ESO’s own Quality Assurance Team. The group was experienced with difficult content and had a passion to tackle it. ESO has adjusted the Trials based on the feedback of the group. The team also mastered the mechanics of the trials making it possible to set the parameters of the encounters.
The Trials go beyond the normal needs of a raid group. Typically in a ten man raid, you would need 1 – 2 tanks, 1 – 2 healers, and the remaining 6 would be pure DPS. The raid group sticks together though they might split up a slight amount to separate MOBS or Bosses. During the trials, the entire group may be needed to put out a ton of DPS while at other times, the entire group may need to heal. The group may need to split up into smaller groups to accomplish 2 or more objectives at the same time.
They are also introducing a MOB called a Bannerman. Each Bannerman has a different power that can easily destabilize a poorly prepared group. A group may also find themselves to be attacked by more than one Bannerman and the group will have to quickly decide which one needs to be taken out first.
The Trials will not have a lockout time, so groups can complete them multiple times and can still earn the best loot. They do throw a curveball at you though, a group only has so many resurrections before the Trial will have to be abandoned and then started over. When groups first tackle the Trials, there is hours of content to be explored and experienced but the Trials are designed to be finished in 60-90 minutes by experienced groups.
ESO has brought something new to the game which may affect how other games introduce new high end content. The Trials definitely brings unique content to ESO which may help attract new players to the game. The Trials are not for the faint of heart. Are you brave enough?
