2 Greater Dragons disappear.....

so i have always logged off at home or at moonglow/luna after a hard days work of whatever with my pet at my side.

The last 2 days i have lost both my greater dragons (my super uber one that took me 4 weeks of farming and a lot of hard work training and my 'backup').

To say how mad i was, cant put in words.

Anyway, what is up? Is there a new 'stable your animal or you will lose it' rule i missed?

What about warriors? What if i am playing at 3am, my lesser hiryu dies, no one is on to rez and i cant stable a dead lesser hiryu - i lose him too?

    *ANGER*

What are the details of your pet loss? Where did you logout? I imagine you were expecting an autostable? What did you do when you logged back in? Did you check the stables to see if it was claimable? I had a tamer on an ostard with four scorpions in tow. I noticed when I logged out, the scorpions didn't login with me, though it still showed them in my followers slot. I had to go grab them from the stables.

If you can, can you detail everything you did leading to your logout and everything you did when you logged back in?

Yes, there is a stable your animal bug or you might lose it. I first had a friend lose a pet a couple months ago that way.

What happens is that rarely your pet won't auto-log with you. Eventually the pet goes wild and the guards come in and whack it. I haven't been able to reproduce it, so I don't know what other factors to be careful of.

Until we do know more about what's going on, it would be a good plan (and tell your friends! Not everyone reads these boards) to stable any pet that you aren't riding every time you log out, even if it's for a minute to go to the toilet.

In the mean time, fill out a feeback form at UO's main site which explains what you were doing before you logged out, where you logged out and whatever other information you can think to add. They can't solve the problem until someone there can reproduce it, and to do that, they need all the information they can get.

Farsight, can you provide any more details of how this happened? Had you just returned from the battle, so perhaps your pet was still flagged for combat the way sometimes players are when they can't logout even in logout zones?

Makeing sure your battle timer has expired is a must if you want to log with your pets. Some times the server reads this as a client crash and both you and th e ppet stays in game.

That and if you stay on till server down you will lose pets

It happened 2 days in a row, within this week. Both times i did the tokuno champ spawn, and afterwards, recalled into luna bank (outside mage shop walls) with my greater dragon, and logged off. The very next day, both times, i logged on and my pet was not with me like usual. My slots showed zero of 5. I freaked out, as the main Greater was an uber one i spent a LONG time farming to get. Who cares about the time training up, that is insignificant in comparison to the time spent killing GD's for months to find a real, real good one.

So i ran to the stable PRAYING it was there, and nope, it wasnt.

Character name is Athlon and Great Lakes.

And i know i will never get my dragon back so just another reason to quit UO. Any other company would do something for its clients if the client lost value because their mistake. Nope, not UO (EA).

Sorry for the rant, but i am still steaming.

Those that have looked for a pet for hours a day, every day of the week, for weeks on end before finding their perfect pet knows what i mean. Friggin wasted time.

Again, sorry, still steaming. Im a programmer, and i know how easy it is to restore something if it is lost. This should have been done for all material losses of users from the beginning of UO 'if' it was UO's fault.

Oh, one last thing - i keep my pets very, very well fed. For sure once every 2 days, but usually once an hour - sometimes a few times within the hour. I feed my pet more than i feed my character for sure.

Imagine losing a blazed Cu that you paid 200 mil for, or spent literally countless hours/days/weeks farming cus to finally get and tame, then losing it to a UO bug.

Auto stable upon connection loss was never meant to be a replacement for stabling a pet.

How hard can it be, to replace something that there's no remaining record of?
When the object (pet or item) is gone, it's gone.

So UO has never been restored before?

Would you like me to answer that for you? Dont mean to be mean.

UO can be reverted, but they can't make something appear that disappears.
Just start stabling your pets normally. It only costs 40 gold.

just wondering. Why did you log off at the bank, where your character would have to time out? It is always recommended that you log out somewhere you will insta log, such as a player's house or an inn.

Is it mean to suggest that instead of expecting 2 pets to be restored, you just stable them if you're in a town with a stables? Especially considering in Luna the stables is beside the Inn and moongate?

The safest place for pets is the stables. If, for any reason, your pet doesn't save outside the stables in a town, it's going to get guardwhacked or killed by the locals. At least if you stable it, you take them out of the equation.

I'm sorry that you lost your pets, but stabling them would have gone a long way to keeping them safe.

When ML came out - how long ago now? I got my crafter a squirrel - Opfasta. Having a beetle and packie in the stable and another beetle that she's seated on, Opfasta has never been stabled. I have logged out with the squirrel beside the char every day since ML launch, and every day the squirrel is there beside her when I log her on again. I always log out at home. It takes seconds to recall home from wherever I am. I see no reason not to do so.

Well at home isn't as bad, because at least if Opfasta goes wild she won't get guardwhacked and can be retamed, so that's not as deadly. I just don't always know if I'll log in every day so if a pet goes wild I wouldn't always know :( Especially with public houses, I tend to stop in the stable bit that's friends only, but anyone can get into the rest of the buildings to kill a pet. And I had that trouble getting 2 pets to bond with Molly - kept finding them loose in the tavern. I just put it down to them losing loyalty because she wasn't visible, maybe a headless spawned and targetted them before she timed out or something. Just never felt 100% comfortable with autostable since then. But if I'm in town I've always stabled pets. Part habit, part paranoia. Wild and running round in the house is one thing, subject to guards and lightning bolts - ikes :(

  17. ya that def sucks. sorry it happened to ya.

one night i was fartin around on my tamer when all the sudden i crashed. it was right around the time they came out with the auto stable thing i think. i couldnt get back in cuz uo was having trouble with its servers and they were gone. they didnt return til after server maintenance. so i was worried and freakin out a lil bit, but thought it'll be ok with the 'new and improved auto-stable feature'. heh. when i finally was able to get back online, i instantly used my pet ball to bring my pet to me. and it was gone, never to be seen again. it was 5 pts short of maxed out in all resists and skills and was fully trained. they wouldnt/couldnt replace it o course. so ever since that happened there is no way in hell i would ever purposefully log out without stabling my priced pet 1st. ever.

Actually, this happened to a guild mate of mine today. He was in his house told his Bake to stay, ran over to the stable and then did a quick log out log in to recall his pet to him and it wasn't there. It wasn't in his house, it wasn't stabled and his pet ball wouldn't work. It happened within just a few seconds as the stable is just a short hop from his house.

Always stable a pet, if you log out with the combat timer on the pet in a busy area they will stay logged in. Sorry this happened, but it's not the game's fault.

and back in to move a pet.

You can recall / sacred journey with pets and they go with you...
gate and even bonded pets travel with you.

if the bake was just tamed or transfered and wal already confused then by leaving site of them would make the last step to wild faster.

As for the act of login out and back in to get a pet from house to stables is not why this "function" was put in.

It is definatly an exploit (althow minor) of game mechanics.

if you log out in luna and DON'T stable your pet I have no mercy for you, it simple to walk to stables and out pet in guranteed saftey.

If oyu had said i was out in a spawn area and crashed and before i could log back in, had to go to school or somthing like that i would have a little more sympathy.

I know this isn't what everyone whines about for the pet inta loggin issue but its another reason to fix it.

    Yes...
There's a rolling backup of everything, which is restored every time the server starts up. You can't pick and choose from it, it's all or nothing.

    So, the choice is either:
1.) Get your dragons back, at the expense of everything that's happened for everyone on your shard since then (if there's even an appropriate backup).
2.) don't get your dragons back.

Either way, learn from your loss.

if someone logs out in their house, and said pet goes wild, wouldn't they still be inside the house?

I had a dragon go wild in my house when I was logged out. Logged in next day and died very fast but I was able to retame dragons. This week in a different house I logged out in house for server down and logged in after maintenance and all my pets (usually have two bonded packies following me around) were wild wandering the neighborhood. These house had open doors. Even so is 45 min for server down really long enough to unbond a pet?

I had something similar happen to me during the casca "rescue" part of the previous event, i died on the way through those passworded doors and Obv my 7xgm dread died...made it through to the end as a ghost, got ressed and finished.

Once outside i logged in and out to try and summon my dead pet...to no avail, i checked my slots 0 checked my stables he wasnt there!!! I was PI**ED!!!

However, I was escorting someone through the rooms on a different char about a week later and lo and behold there was my dreads ghost just sitting in the corner!!!

Obviously rushed back switched chars went bak and my baby returned to me i was SO HAPPY!!!!

shard maintenance, or crash, causes a separation. If you log out too close to server down when the shard comes back up there's a very slight revert. Which puts your pet back where it was at that point.

Eg. Suppose the last server save on a particular day is at 4.45am. At that time you're in Shame killing bloods. You recall home and log off at 4.50am and the server goes down at 5am. When it comes back up it's restored to it's last save point and your pet finds itself all alone in Shame.

You, however have gone to bed. So you're pet is left there. If you haven't gone to bed, return to the point where you were last hunting and very often you'll find your pet there, or close by.

Quite often these 'lost' pets can be found, if you know where to look. Recall with an unbonded pet that's been told 'all follow me' and the pet will 'try' to follow you, shooting off in the direction you recalled till it hits an obstacle.

I once found the ghost of a bonded pet 4 months after I lost it. I lost it during an event "telestorm" in trinsic (event was about 4 years ago, involved daemons and LOTS of lag). The telestorm put me in cove, with 0/5 slots, when I logged back in.

a friend of mine found the beetle, months later, as a ghost, sitting on the MOUNTAIN behind Cove (several z-levels up). I called to it, it responded, and it went with me when I recalled, showing back up in my control slots on my arrival at my destination.

I got it rezzed, and still own it (although on a different character now).

BTW, there MIGHT be another explanation for the missing pets.

There have been times where PETS got the drops of items that their owner should have gotten. IF this occurred (like one of the new Scrolls), it might not log at all, because the game ends up treating it like a pack animal with items in it (as these do not log with you).

Here is another pet unwarm fuzzy to know. Your out fighting the nasties and die. Before you dress you give commmands before redressing skill pump items......Bad. Or cross a server line before dressing while pets is returning to you. This has some bad effects to the pets state. I've had pets still blue and reconized my voice for commands that require feeding or retaming to get there head right. Even your pet agroed on a target that gets killed before the pet can reach it can really mess up pets now. I've had to ride my Cu over a server line or relog just to get it to move when guarding or commanded to attack. The creatures AI in the game has been wierd long time. Just look at all the agroed spawn that chases after someone that recalled away. And I wont get started on the I die and then my 5 Frenzy die, and how many directions adding how far they can travel.

I can relate to the cycling to get the right pets. Should see my 5 rare colored predator hellcats of high stats. It would takes weeks to replace one but I could use the spine leather anyways.

Ok today my gdragon and I logged out in my house. I immediately log in on a different character and and I see my dragon. This freaks me out a little so I log back on tamer then log off and log onto the other character. Now my dragon and I are logged out. There is no spawn in my neighborhood I had not been fighting anything within at least 30 minutes. If I had not logged in and seen my dragon, would it have gone wild. Yes? This is messed up.

Interesting to note.. just logged on to Baja and someone's dragon DRACONA (bonded) is sitting at Luna's bank. I believe it was there before maintenance (with it's owner), so if it's owner is reading this, they'd be well advised to log in and save their dragon from going wild ;)

Auto-stable was never implemented to take the place of properly stabling your pet. It's there so you can still have your pet if you have lose con and can't get back in. Maybe it doesn't work 100% of the time, but it's still better than being 100% sure you lost your pet.

Want to log out at your house? Get a hitching post. Want to log in Luna, walk to screens to the stable and put your pet up. Don't blame your loss on UO, blame it on your laziness.

Well back. Lost one of the 5 frenzy I've had for 9 years while in the middle of Ish Oaks. Guess after 9 years got tired of me and went for death by pixie. Ya I'd have to admit there is a load of problems to come as the Jinga code stack gets higher.

Thing is haven't the need to do frenzy in a while. after 6 hours of cycling frenzy they don't seem to come with the HP they used to. One I lost had 114HP. Takes about 50 frenzy to find one with 108 or more. Not a big issue 6 points with pets doing as they please when redlined.

Ya I remember when a swamp dragon named "Fuzy Buny Slippers" was in ghost form in fel champ spawn areas. I think it was at least 4 months before it was cleaned up.
