I don't know if this means that a Faction guild can't ally with a non-Faction guild at all, or if they just have to do it after they join a Faction.

If the latter, then what's the point of the change at all.

If the former, then that is a stupid idea (sorry to be so blunt) that should be reconsidered.

As it stands currently, a Faction guild can be a Faction guild and can participate in other aspects of the game.

RP, for example, often uses guild alliance and guild war mechanics for various reasons. Why on earth would you exclude Faction guilds from this?

This change would do nothing but further isolate a playstyle, Factions, that is already sufficiently isolated.

If this is being done to, for example, prevent the coordination of Factioners and non-Factioners in, for example, co-ganking someone? Then guess what, this change won't impact that at all.

We players have other means of coordinating ganks than alliance chat. Instant messaging clients such as ICQ or Yahoo Instant Messenger, the telephone, and Voice Over Internet Protocol come to mind.

This change, at best, fixes something that isn't broken and, at best, further breaks the already broken ability of Factioners to participate fully in other aspects of the game.

There is no benefit to a faction guild being in an Alliance above and beyond what nonfaction guilds get from being part of an Alliance. If anything, the fact that Alliance greens can't heal my faction character seem like a bit of a drawback if anything. I think this is a very poor change unless someone explains a good reason to the contrary. My guild recently joined factions, but with this change, we're probably going to have to leave factions because we use our Alliance for various benefits (RP battles being a big one). Our Alliance is a big part of our community, and the "benefits" of factions (long waits while sigils corrupt, the difficulty finding a res in Trammel, the broken point system) won't be enough.

Please reconsider this change or at least explain why you are making it. Thanks.

  3. The way they've been going lately...there was probably some kind of bug deep down in the code they didn't really understand and figured it was better to just prevent it from getting to that point instead of actually fixing what was wrong.

There is some type of exploit in which you can make it so a non-faction allied guild is able to heal ally faction members. However making it so you can't ally anymore is yet another change which seems to be a quick fix that hurts legitimate players who want to ally with their main guild.

This change only requires guilds to end alliances before joining factions. After you've joined, you should still be able to be part of an alliance. No other rules with guild alliances have been changed: if you can ally another guild right now while in factions, and they are not, then you will still be able to do so.

As posted elsewhere in the thread, the suspicion is correct that there's a deep-seated bug caused by "dangling" alliances existing before a guild joins a faction.

Currently a guild that is in factions can't ally tho. Faction is in a state of war and an alliance can't add a guild in a state of war.

Do you mean that with the change the guild forming the alliance must be in faction??? ie, if we have an alliance with a guild in TB. If the faction group wanted to change to CoM, they would have to leave TB (and the alliance?), join CoM, and then the whole alliance would have to be reformed with the faction guild as the creator of the alliance?

Thank you very much for the clarification.

Those can get you pretty far around here! (Well, with me anyway.)

    *chuckles*

    :)

    Thank you again.

So far it seems like a faction guild can't be added to an alliance. It looks like the system thinks there are 5 faction - minax, SL, TB, COM, and everyone else.
