A PLEA: Enhanced Client is totally out of synch

Being very disappointed with the way how players are being left alone with the bug-ridden Enhanced Client for months, I tried to switch back to the Legacy Client. I tried, but I can't. I just miss so much functionality and despise the choppy screen movement of the Legacy Client, that I am torn between both clients.

Anyway, the purpose of this posting is to point out that the Enhanced Client isn't really playable. One of the main issues (and issues there are plenty) is that the client is out of synch. Now even more than before. The character appears on the screen where it isn't. I keep hitting monsters with my melee weapon from at least 7 tiles away (and monsters hitting me), sometimes my character jumps to a spot several tiles away when I keep standing still for a few seconds, the character jumps when casting spells, and running - stop running - hiding simply isn't working anymore, since as soon as you hide, the character jumps and immediately becomes unhidden again.

It really is a shame that you - the game developers responsible for this mess - neither comment the issues the client is suffering from, nor solve them. Instead you retreat to your default statement that the client is still beta. Why can't you be honest to us, and either tell us that the EC is no dead end and will be fixed before a certain date, or just admit that we do not need to bother using this client anymore, because you stopped developing it? The situation currently is a catch-22, and once again those who wanted to try the new technology are being left alone in the rain.

I still have hopes for UO, but if this is the philosophy behind your plan to attract new players to the game, I indeed predict a dark future for Ultima Online.

Tell us that it isn't so.

(Sorry if my posting sounds harsh, but it is the result of 7 months of Enhanced Client frustration.)

I think some of the so called problems between both clients can be attributed to poor pc performance and/or old machines or connection.......or all the above. 2d choppiness for example..... I`ve no clue what that is,no idea what your referring too.

I`m not trying to bash you Hawkeye,I`m just saying there is ALOT that some peaple blame EA in general for that has nothing to do with EA but more to do with the machine they are trying to run the game on.

Half the things peaple ***** about on these forums about performance or the lack thereof........I`ve never experienced.

    Just makes me wonder.

I kinda get a laugh out of those that state the enhanced client is unplayable - since it is all I have played for quite a long time now. Are there problems? Sure... but they are no worse than the problems that persist in 2D.

That sounds like a serious problem that the 2D client has no problems with Tazar. Instead of laughing at players who are having big problems, it's probably better to try jumping on board to help them so we don't lose more of our player base. And not just that, but this is a problem several people have, not just him or two or three.
Have some sympathy, will you? You're killing UO with those kind of comments.

I would disagree unless you consider a quad core system built earlier this year to be "poor performance"

2d is choppy because 3d/KR/EC are NOT. It's a matter of perspective. Once you get used to the smoothnes of polygonal movement or a significant increase in animation frames, 2d becomes very choppy even on higher end machines.

I haven't hit things in melee from seven tiles away, but I HAVE experienced the same tile jumping in EC that the op has (although it hasn't made things unplayable (i.e. compared to say the Earthquake spell), it IS annoying when it happens).

Personally, I just want to see a good substantial EC Patchurday fixing many VISIBLE problems and giving us a better upadted client. What we have now has been a BAD compromise as long as the 2d client remains usable.

I got a high-end computer with latest device drivers and a high-speed dsl connection with low latency to Catskills. The synch-issue may be caused by slight lag, but the problem is how the Enhanced Client handles it. The Legacy Client shows the character where it is. The Enhanced Client does not.

The choppiness in the Legacy Client is something you would notice when you played the EC for a few weeks. It has nothing to do with computer performance or internet lag. Screen movement is just not half as smooth as it is on the Enhanced Client. It does not affect gameplay, but the Legacy Client will hurt the eyes of every player who is used to modern games.

I'm not convinced it is anything to do with the client. I think it is more to do with the wide difference in upload-vs-download speeds most isp's offer today. Sure, you get awesome download speeds, but I think the upload speed/lag is a likely culprit here.

I use the EC only and have since it first came out. This is not a problem that makes it "totally unplayable" to me at all. I know many that play the EC regularly - including several die-hard 2D'ers. While there are problems with it - again, I do not think it is anything worse than the problems that 2D still has.

Sure, I'd love to see improvements to the EC, but to say it is unplayable is a little overly dramatic.

I'm not laughing at the player - or at the problem - but at the description of the problem.

I second that. What hawkeye_pike said. It's bloody murder in pvp.

He is killing UO? OMG . You are kidding right? I hope. Do you seriously think that a few comments here on the boards or the people he sees in game are the majority of the playerbase? Seriously?

Ahh I gotcha. It`s quite the reverse for me. As I see the motion of me running/mounted in EC as a bit choppy even with my rig. I guess it is a matter of perspective.

I do play in EC almost daily but no where near the amount I play 2d. I personally haven`t had any issues that made the EC anywhere near unplayable. Its just not as pleasant as old faithful.

Sorry to insinuate your PC is/was junk and the culprit..... Just IMO even with all the bells and whistles and the latest and the greatest there is still issues that CAN be on the users end....even if that user is unable to figure that out. Not everyone knows everything. I`m not defending EA`s silence by no means, just saying that maybe their silence means something else. Like the problem is to remote and effects too little of players. Or they have looked into their side and found nothing...which would put blame on the users end....even with the quad core greatness that is today.

I agree they should communicate more but since they don`t....... /shrug

I dont know why you are angry, i have posted it and other too before the future is dead. I rember a thread in the KR Forum, no EC is cool. Pah EC is the last crap game on earth, but i cant stop playing it because it is UO.

But maybe in a year or two we get a new client with new expansion, lets hope on that, the development will close next year in january like the one for KR two years ago.

Well I dont have any problems with the enhanced client because after trying it several times I dont use it. I found that even trying to use it was near impossible as my cursor has to be placed a short distance away from the buttons or gumps to operate them.

That being of no use to me whatsoever I have gone for the obvious option.

The classic client tends to stop moving/updating if there is lag whereas enhanced client seems to keep drawing and allowing you to "move" as far as you can tell.. making it smoother overall but misleading when the client & server are out of sync. It happens in extreme cases in other games such as 3D MMO and FPS that use similar engines. I'm no expert but I imagine they're still using the same networking from the original UO; maybe that's an issue?

I'm not experiencing the problems the OP mentions. I did have such issues when I was using my old computer but that one ran KR just fine, for some reason.

I came back recently and have been using the EC exclusively. While I haven't run into too many frustrations yet, I have noticed bugs here and there.

I hope that EA is planning on continuing to improve the EC. It's a great base system, I think, and I never would have gotten my wife playing using the CC. So you can at least count 1 extra sub due to the new tech. ;)
