A Pvp concern realted to Gargoyles

So i was looking over the SA part of UOherald and I noticed that a racial attribute of beinging a gargoyle is being able to "fly as fast as a galloping horse"

Now my concern is that will this flying ability only be used in the new areas which will not be pvp oriented. OR will this ability be able to be used in the fel ruleset?

Because if a person can fly as fast as being mounted it means that the primary ability to keep people from running away in pvp, which is dismounting, be it with a bola or a dismount special may be completely nerfed. Simply because you may possibly not even have to own a mount to be as fast as the elves and humans while not being on a mount.

Now there may be some penalty to using the flying racial ability but since expansion is still in closed beta I dont have a clue as to what that could be. So what are your opinions on this topic and if anyone who knows any facts about it please do tell.

I think I read somewhere that they could be "dismounted" (put into walking speed) using a bola or something...

I was more worried about if you could move at "flying" speed while in other forms like wraith form. Was thinking that if it does how much pvp would be affected.

It would be just an army of Garg/wraith necro/mages ftw!!!

Just hoping that mage weapon is not on any throwing weapons.

i think its bull**** too, they need to have more negative affects to being a gargoyle. Because from this so far, it sounds like a gargoyle will be a ninja formed human with the ability to still cast. Who cares if it stuns and slows them down when they get dismounted, its not like you can hurry up and kill their mount, they don't have one. I agree, i see no reason why everyone wouldnt just be gargoyles. Ontop of that, the throwing skill will be used as a counter to archery, without having to tear through bolts and arrows.

Let us all just hope they find a disadvantage to being a gargoyle...a big one.

Because if they won't do anything about speed hacking, you're only real defense against a big group of speed hackers is dismounting them 1 by 1 and lighting up them and their mount so they cant hp back on it.

I would guess that flying is exactly like mounting an ethy. In that you cant be in a form, you get a control slot, and you can be bolaed/dimounted.

What i actually didnt originally post but Cetric nailed it right on the head is about the fact that even if they can be dismounted its complete and utter BS that theres no real way to keep them from flying right after the dismount debuff wears off.

This will make those already annoying as hell dread mare tamers even more annoying. Plus if it doesnt take up a followers slot when you are flying. Have fun catching that dragon based tamer who now has an extra 100+ skill points invested into another skills because they dont need to have ninjitsu anymore.

Is there going to be a loooong as hell cast time to it that can be interrupted?
Do those wings not allow you to wear a quiver or cloak or a sash or a crimmy?

There really does need to be a serious disadvantage that will keep me from changing my pvp characters into gargoyles immediatly after the expansion comes out.

Perhaps the flying skill will be added ;-) Like Focus

It will be exactly the same as every other release: It will have a really over-powered bit, like Gargoyles will be able to move at mounted speed, that will mean you have to buy the expansion or be dead. Then after a year of general moaning, screaming and pleading by the PvP crowd the devs will tone down the changes once its no longer a selling factor.

Anyone wanna take a bet that's how it will go?

It will most likely be like an invisible ethy.
When you are on foot it will take 2 seconds for the gargs to start flapping their wings before they are warmed up enough to do continuous flying.

All ethy rules should apply including the dismount confusion timer.

Nothing more than a free ethy.

I also think it's nothing more than a free ethy since gargs can be bola'd and dismounted.

My thoughts exactly. The pattern has been: EA floods the economy with the current expansion's uber arti's in some "event" to devalue their in-game worth (Treasures of Tokuno II? Any number of invasions?). Then, the new expansion is rolled out with a new race or new skills that make the current gimp templates obsolete (spellweaving, ninja stealth, necromancy, elves?). Along with that comes new uber arti's that are really, really rare and that you need the new expansion to either a) equip; or b) collect due to expansion territory restrictions. Give it 9-12 months, then wash, rinse, repeat.

Is this really a bad thing? The content stays fresh, it throws the gimps off their stride, and it adds new things to explore and experience. It also pays the devs to stay at the company and not jump ship to another company or another game. It also infuses fresh capital for server upkeep, resources, and service. Yes Virginia, there is service contrary to what people yelp about. Anyone remember when we all referred to the game as Ultima Offline? I think the last time I used that term was 1998 or so. I remember regularly not playing for extended periods due to server crashes. I haven't had that happen to me in years.

The thing I didn't like was when EA seemed to be treating expansions as if the game were Madden UO 200x. Every year you get nerfed and have to pony up the equivalent cost of a new game just to get access to the stuff that is now functionally required to play. Mythic seems to be taking a slightly different route. <crosses fingers>

We already have this with animal forms. It is just going to be a racial ability now for Gargoyles. I remember it being stated you can't instantly fly, you have to enter that state and it takes a moment. So it will likely be disruptable, just as mounting an ethernal is.

My concern is how many times I will get a message that I must be standing next to a character to steal from them. This happens often with the existing gargs...la

Ya thanks for making all Ethys pretty much useless with Gargoyles...wow talk about alienating your vet population with flying. Im assuming flying will be exactly like animal form once you start flying but have the ability to cast spells, do specials at mounted speeds without a mount. They should allow spells/specs like para/nerve strike to drop a garg from the sky causing extra damage akin to dismount dmg. But then, no one would be a garg for very long...who dreamt up these completely unbalancing abilities...ever think about the repercussions in an already unbalanced area of pvp??

All the speculation I've read is that it will work just like having an ethy... which begs the question: Why would you ever play a gargoyle if you have an ethy?

For PvP, the only advantages would be Berzerk (which may just get you killed faster), basic Mysticism, and Throwing (perhaps the biggest perk depending on what they do with it).

And with human JOAT, doesnt that count for basic mysticism, throwing, and every other skill?

Wow everyone is getting their panties in a bunch over flying. most of the OP stuff will probably get over-nerfed during beta testing.

Maybe they should make Dread Warhorses a playable race.

Why so? Technically, it would be the same as a mage weapon bow right?
