What are the limits for signature sizes? I have been messaged by a couple or Mods over the years I have posted here, that some of mine were "slightly" over the limit. Usually 50 pixels in height over the limit,or over the file size if I mistakenly host it in png form.

All the while,I see some people have signatures that would be approaching 280x600 in size and way over file limits,as they would have it running in gif format. So what's the story? What can I get away with in sig size without having to shrink it?

Just below where you link your URL to your sig file it says:

Note: The maximum size of your custom image is 600 by 125 pixels or 50.0 KB (whichever is smaller).

You might want to check the file size of the sig you're trying to use. Maybe that's the issue. Personally, I'd PM the same mod who had an issue with the sig and just get the answer straight from the horses mouth.

There is also a forum for testing and discussing sigs...

If you see signatures that are over the limitations given in the RoC, please let us know. Sometimes they just slip past our notice, since it's not always easy to tell at a glance whether a Signature is oversized.
The little notify button on the post will work :)

Perhaps it would be possible for a Greasemonkey script to determine if an image is in the signature area and if it is too big, and make it sparkly or something to make it easier to notice.

You will also occasionally see an offending sig appear... then disappear a couple of days later. This is often because the mod sent a PM request to the forum member and they had not logged in for a day or two to get the message. Also, I believe that some still use a rotating signature... so while I saw one that was acceptable, you could log in an hour later and see one that is not.

Please let us know when you see problems.
