  1. Why do folks who PVP vote against thiefs ??

    and bank sit in luna/brit

and not war rival guilds so they can fight any where ??

i have asked these questions many times yet never do i get a real answer

Having a theif takes zero skill?

I personally don't like bank sitting anywhere. If I have something to sell I put it on a vendor. If I want something then I either go get it myself or buy it from a vendor.

I would have to say that this has more to do with the reason people avoid factions. When you are in a war guild you can't get any benneficial actions performed on you by someone not in your guild/alliance regardless of what realm you are on.

  3. Thieves just suck... No skill, no risk, one sided entertainment.

(PvP)Banksitters are burning off murder counts to keep from going red.

As for War, the free for all type of pvp from the original ultima online is not for everyone, mainly why we have tram in general, alot of ppl want some sort of control over their gameplay. If you didn't play back then you don't really appreciate the pros and cons of this type of gameplay.

Um no. Since there is no need to do any action that would require a person to manually click the mouse key or keyboard. There is no skill gain what so ever. This has to be the most frustrating comment I've ever heard. :next:

PvP'rs vote no to theives for the plain and simple fact that they play UO to fight other players, not have some numbnut thief getting in the way and being an a-hole when they are trying to fight someone.

All those references to "its take no skill" and "its one sided entertainment" are correct, but due to the huge increase of PvPr's using evil omen + paralyze = 6 second paralysis, then x-cross energyfields, to gank you while your stuck. This idiotic/cowardly tactic is both "no skill" + "one sided entertainment", so PvPr's (like myself) can not use that as an arguement against theives being rejuvinated in their usefullness. If your a pvper, and are offended by this generalization, then go direct your anger to the arseclowns that do that crap all day and all night long.

hmm playing a thief takse no skil hey then i suggest you play one and find out, cause man number one: you have no combat capability on a pure thief and not enough ninja to turn into anything fast, Number two ever since insurance you cant really steal anything good anyways but the rush you get is awsome,
try this out cause it is fun, stealth into a bc spawn while avoiding all teh fields and earthquakes, not to mention the spawn itself, shadow jump around, get into a postion and wait for champ to be defeated while avoiding detection, when he dies shadow jump near his body and snoop a pack, target the 120 scroll and steal it, make a few coppies of yourself and smoke bomb stealth, shadow jump out of the gaint group hug your about to recieve from bc, or RUN really fast get around a corner of something and hide, stealth away avoding dectetion the plan here is to get the 120 powerscroll out in all esle fails you will have to eat it!!!!
thiefs take alot of skill to play its not all about pressing buttons it takes better timing then a mage to survive, sacrificing ninja for snooping on a pure thief with 100 steal (so i can steal in stats) sucks even worse.
before you flame thiefs try palying one first when your able to pull the 120 steal form a spawn off then your allowed to talk.

    love decker

I do not believe anyone really intended to say, or give the impression that playing a theif is 'absolutely' skillless. The level of attention to detail, proper knowledge of ALL game mechanics, and the patience of a saint are needed to accomplish the task you used as an example. Anyone that says otherwise is an idiot and shouldn't be taken seriously. However in regards to PVP'ing, theif's have no place, there isnt anything they can contribute, except for being an annoyance.

I know a lot of people miss playing a thief like they use to be insurance came into play. Butt, UO now revolves around the "Item-Based" game system, before insurance, it was the opposite. Also, you have to remember one thing, online games have to be cattered to keep a certain degree of satisfaction towards the customers. How popular would a game be, if that game revolved around items, players spend tons of money and time, obtaining them, to have them snatched away.

    Here.

I don't plan to War because in my guild there are amog the PKs some quite peacefull folks who'd be annoyed.

I don't have anything against thieves.

I don't bank-sit. I got addicted to raising useless skills like Item ID so I do that when not champing or fighting.. If not that then I'm usually shopping.

  10. Replying to Decker...

Yeah this is true, there are def thieves with mad skillz... Sorry to put you down.

But the question was why do mosy ppl vote against them, and that is from the past, when theives could walk around naked and take ppl's stuff with no real risk to themselves, and for the most part just to annoy ppl. (ie RP/miners)

Counts have zero to do with gaining or losing skill. Silly statement.

It wasn't always like that for thieves. :( They got hit with both the Nerf stick and the Dumbed Down stick too many times.

But when groups of people just aren't anywhere to be found where you are allowed to steal, I guess things have to change or it becomes another Item Identification story.

    Thieves take no skill!?

Pre UOR it took a ton of skill to play a town thief.
As far as now Try making off with Power scrolls from an enemy guild at a champ spawn or try to steal a sigil from a guarded base.

As far as guild wars - The most common cause for people not to guild war is because there are always seem to be non combatants in the guild. Crafters, a spouse who only PvMs etc.

What is needed is C/O or a revamped faction system.

  14. Part of me wants to understand the mentality of the PVPER they dont hestitate (ok 99.9 % of them) to gank anyone anytime BUT

thiefs annoy them ?? because they might take aids pots or a scroll ?? you would think the folks the gank on sight might be annoyed

they dont war because there might be noncombatants again what would they say to the miner they just jacked ??

if i joined say FL with my miner i would expected to get jumped at every turn yes ? my point being there are no noncombatants in PK guilds

When I'm on my blue bank sitting it is because I am burning off murder counts and Luna bank/gate is the best place to do it, if your blue.

I'll tell ya why,.....because when they are busy ganking someone by hitting preset buttons......they are disrupted from the routine task they mastered so well.....all of a sudden they have to actually stop and think.

I say give thieves a one up and allow breaking and entering.....a bypass on the insurance as well.

After all, they are thieves and it's a legitimate player class in UO, just like pvp is.

they vote against thieves because they're newbies running around yew gate pretending that they have skill. they don't realize that thieves don't venture beyond gate areas naked. Not to mention the changes they support have made it impossible for a thief to make an honest living without being a zero cost template. What's a thief going to steal, your potions? Thieves have responded by engaging in pvp to be disruptive of whom they consider filth. the trash that won't venture from the gate is the same trash that played gate thieves that real thieves battled across all the shards.

Thieves represent difficulty and today's trammelized felucca is full of whiny newbs clinging to gates demanding the game be made easier.

As far as banksitting, if they banksit, they're a blue and not a real pvper but a gate hugger(usually a trammelite experimenting for their first time in pvp, just getting a hang of the ropes).

Most guilds won't accept wars because they're too busy being safety obsessed newbs.

Those are your honest answers. Most of the other responses are newbs posting rubbish.

Yeah. At some point that broke, and no one said anything....And not everyone knows about it......So every once in a great while some RP guilds will do a war and suddenly find outsiders healing them.

House key stealing and dry-house looting. Their attitude on these boards. The practice of surrounding their victims with blue friends and stealing in nearly absolute safety. The fact that, as was with the PKs, it's a lot easier to get a group of players to steal or kill than it is to get them together to hunt stealers or killers. Human nature being as base and wretched as it is gave them a largely insurmountable advantage.

you guys crack me up. no skills required to play a thief? hahaha, anyone who says that obviously hasnt ever tried to play one. these days, since thiefs have been 'nerfed' so to speak, it requires more skill than ever before

Thieves have a place in almost every form of PvP. Clearly it's not much of a role anymore, but it's an element that would be sorely missing from UO if they weren't there. Not saying most people would miss being stolen from, just saying the game would be the poorer for losing them. As nerfed and unloved as they have become, no other MMOG has anything approaching the UO Thief. Don't care if they call them Rogues or Burglars or whatever, they're not a patch on the original.

If you consider thieves no more than an annoyance, remember: that's the fault of the game, not the player.
