A Thought on Stygian Abyss

    When the Stygian Abyss expansion was first announced, its content was intended to only be accessible with the Kingdom Reborn client because "it allows for features and interactions that are not possible in the 2D client."

    Now, after a near-revolt on these boards, as well as some considerable corporate shuffling within EA, it has been decided that Stygian Abyss will be compatible with the 2D client.

    Commence conjecture on what those "features and interactions" were that we will now never see realized...

    Large area maps made of a single image rather than tiles or textures that requires a lot less processing power than rendering the old tiled maps and would have looked really good in KR, as well as freeing movement from an entirely tile-based system.
