A Way To Bring Back The Casinos To EA Land

Discussion in 'EA Land/The Sims Online Stratics Forums' started by imported_Starrfoxx, Mar 11, 2008.

  1. I've come up with an idea to bring back all the casino games. Maybe this was suggested, so I apologize if it has.

Bring back the casino as an EA/Maxis run lot with NPC's. This can serve as a "drain" on the economy and all funds used would go right back to the EA Pool. Rewards could be anything from simoleons to rare objects, rare pets, or skill locks. This would be a win/win scenario, because:

    1) Players win because we get the fun jackpot and roulette machines back, plus an opportunity to have more casino objects added later. We can also get a chance to win rare items like those old cannons, gnomes, or rare pets.

    2) This will create a nice drain on the economy and put funds back into the EA Pool.

Legally, I don't see how this could be a problem, because EA would be running it. It would not be player run, and the odds would be hard to win. Still, Everquest has an NPC casino in a place called Shadow Haven.

  2. I think as long as the simole... err... currency can be converted to real life money, gambling is out of the picture because then it has to be regulated. Most developers are not willing to shuck out the licensing fees and hire an attorney who is versed in such things, and to just generally take on the risks that come with such a move (again, because the funds are convertible to real money). Also, some people live in places where any gambling is illegal, so they may run amok of local laws as well.

I'm not personally against it, just my two [yet to be announced currency type], after having watched the turmoil over internet gambling in the past couple of years, especially with respect to games.

But that's just it Starr, it *can't* be the in-game currency (will be glad when they choose the new name since we can't call em simoleans anymore lol) because that's the whole reasons casinos had to be abolished to begin with. Rare pets also probably would not work, because they could in turn be sold for the in-game currency. Skill locks *might* work, but that would totally abrogate the current issuing system we have for skill locks now. Skill locks are far too popular to try to force players who don't believe in gambling at all to go to a casino just for the opportunity to *maybe* win extra locks.

The loss of casinos is a tough blow to take at first, but in the long run I don't think it'll be that big a deal, its just that players are going to have to rethink their goals in-game and make money/socialize with the tools that we have now, since that is what most people used casinos for.....the majority stopped going to casinos that didn't offer payouts, and therefore would net the sim a large amount of profit so really there was not alot of *gambling* aspect left.....it just got turned into another kind of money lot, with the element of chance to it that you might hit a JP, but you had no chance of losing money with the payouts.

    Analyzing the issue:
    * Casino's cannot be brought back into the game as long as payouts can be converted into simoleans that can be cashed out for real life money

    Solving the issue:
    * Trying to come up with a way that casino profit CANNOT eventually be cashed out.

    Solution:
    * Have casino objects work on SimCredits.

    - You can buy SimCredits for normal simoleans.
    - With SimCredits you can use the casino objects
    - SimCredits can be used to buy EA standard objects or CC objects. Objects bought with SimCredits are flagged and cannot be traded (and of course sellbackvalue 0)

That would be a very good page to set up on the Wiki [IMG] !!!!! That's where all the organized and thought out stuff goes, and the devs pull alot of their future plans off that site, so it would definitely be worth the time to formulate the page if I were the person who thought of it, so that it has at least a chance of getting in the game once we're not under such a time crunch and have the cities merged and know that the game is safe, at least for now. *Cries* I didn't know Casino's were taken out of the game [IMG] I played SL for about a day, so I don't know much about it, but I saw a casino in there when I was playing...Can't you buy and sell money in that game too? If so, how do they do it? If not, ignore my ignorance [IMG]
That's a good idea about the credits though! I personally love the casino objects, payouts or no payouts, they were different and fun [IMG]

  7. Why not have the rewards based on items that are consumed?

Have the machines give out 'trinkets'. They should be 'untradeable'. Trinkets could be for things such as...temporarly lifting of certain needs for certain periods of time. Say...."Holder of trinket will receive 1 hour of free green"....there could be 'common' trinkets and 'rare' ones. Rare ones could be 'very' rare and could grant things like....a free skill lock.

These would be 1 time use objects and would not be tradeable.

    Just a suggest though.

Why not have two types of game cash. One that can be Cashed out for real money. Then one that cant. Then bring back the casinos and there payouts. Pay in the cash that cant be cashed out. Let us be able to buy items and pay npc's with both But only the one can be cashed out. That way for the sims that dont want to buy money dont have to. And people that do can. Make it so At the store we can either buy with say casino winnings or earned cash. Come up with a name for both. Maybe make 1 worth more than the other. If i go to buy an item from a store. I want to buy in casino winnings The item that would cost me 100 in normal game cash would cost me. 150 If i buy it with casino winnings. Its a win win type of thing. Get to bring back the casinos. People that dont want to use the atm dont have to. People that do want to use the atm can. And the DEV. could even fill in that blank spot on the budget window at the bottom that says coming soon or what ever. Why not make some kind of credit card that our casino winnings can be put on. And like said earlier cant be used at the atm.

  9. Well, they could just disable the 'money' from the casino objects and just let it give 'fun'?

Great idea. There are many creative and fun activities that could be run using casino objects.

Of course, those of us who sold back/deleted our expensive casino objects will need to be kept away from sharp objects indefinitely.

LOL....but only if they are expensive to rebuy. [IMG]

I do think there are some very simple ways to bring them back in to the game as mini-games.

We have to be very careful of setting up the rewards in *any* way that can be converted to cash.....and that includes 'tokens' that can be used for cc or items that can then be sold for cash. [IMG]

It would have to be a completely closed loop, that can *never* result in exchangable game cash or items, for anyone, anywhere down the line.

  12. EA's POGO gives out badges. The badges cannot be traded. The badges are uber popular. I think it is human nature to enjoy collecting, and to have bragging rights. Such a system could work in EA Land, and perhaps game status (eg, skill points, job 'tools') could be awarded for certain levels of collection.

I'll will not do with casinos being an EA owned thing.

IMHO, it would just be a way of scamming us out of money, what good is it if it isn't at least going to another player.

    I want player-run casinos back.

There has to be a way for sim-cash based, player-run casinos to be implemented back. Parizad knows this: I am very upset at the loss of them, and demand them back.

Enough ranting for now, on my part.

EDIT: Johnny Lace, that's the same basic idea I had. [IMG]
How hard would that be to do?

And about the 'fun slots' idea, I strongly disagree. Doing that, IMHO, would make re-implementing them pointless, and wouldn't really be 're-implementing' them in the first place.

hmm, i didnt know there was a casino in shadow haven, not that i have been there much, love everquest but im a big chicken teehee. and regardless, i thought this would still fall under the whole reason for getting rid of the casinos in the first place, is that dif states have dif laws regarding casinos so its easier to just dump them.

It is true different states have different laws, but that is not the reason for EA removing casino objects.

The problem lies solely in the fact that EA will be allowing players to exchange game currency into US dollars. This would put EA squarely in the headlights of the US Federal laws against online gambling. It is a federal crime to engage in online gambling, no matter what state you live in.

Yes, there are some online gaming sites that are evading this ban -- claiming they offer "games of skill" and not gambling -- but it is a risky business, and one not worth EA's risk or investment.

Off-topic: Dali, I'd really like to see you in EA Land sometime. I'm virtually never in TC3.

    Miss you!
