ABC Do they need DCI?

Do ABC archers need DCI? I've had my archer for a few years now just do group pvm etc. But was thinking of taking him to doom by himself. Was wondering if I should put in some DCI in his gear. And would 45 be enough since "I hope" he doesn't get hit all the time.

I don't think that archers benefit from dci.

Everyone benefits from DCI, Dci is defensive chance which is determined by a calculation of your skill vs whatever is attacking you's skill. It's dodge, not block. Archers really only need to worry about this which ranged attacks... DCI doesn't dodge magic... so unless you don't know how to move, you could get away with it.

Based on what I've been told, DCI doesn't affect a mage holding a spellbook - only a mage wielding a mage weapon. The rational is that you cannot parry with a book.

Similarly, I do not think you can parry with a bow. Consider the following post from Connor Graham, the ad hoc ABC expert on stratics:

If you are victorious over the dark father solo with an archer be sure to post some screen shots. I do not recall anyone doing this, well at least posting it.

Well DCI is partly do to your combat skill. Parry is another matter all together. So if you are using a spell book with no wrestling or don't have Anat+Eval, you will totally get hit. Same with any dexer, Say you have fencing and holding a sword with no UBW, that's like having 0 skill. A mage weapon converts the skill into a combat skill, hence the dci bonus.

Archers do have a dci bonus, but no parry chance, not even holding a bow where as any other character holding a fence, sword, mace wep would get 1/2 their parry chance based on skill, for example if I had a char with no bushido and I had a 30% with a shield, I would have a 15% to block with a weapon.

    Ok I am rambling..

The answer to the question is "yes and no".

Yes, DCI is important to everyone, but since as an archer, you won't be getting up close and personal with most of your opponents, it isn't high on your priority list.

My archer has 35% DCI, but I can afford it.

I think I understand. Thanks for giving me the down low. :)

Regardless, it sounds as though the OP is planning to semi-tank a DF. No ammount of dci - parry chance or otherwise - is going to make his archer a tank.

  9. I don't have any screen shots, but I've done it. It takes a buttload of running around and a lot of time, but since all you're really doing is kiting it around, they're not that hard. You just have to keep taking time out to clear the spawn before you can get back to killing the DF. It's not something someone would want to do on a daily basis, but it can be done. The only boss that's a pain in the ass for an archer is the Fleshrenderer because of it's speed. You simply can't kite them because they're too fast for it.

  10. Without some help in the Fleshrenderer's room, you won't be able to take them down before they take you down. The only archer template I've seen able to take them on is a vamp form archer. DCI isn't going to do you much good.

I have done decently as my archer with mage help tanking the Flesh Renderers with an archer, but I spent the entire time running around in circles using moving shot.

To this point, I haven't soloed Doom on my archer, and only once on a wraith and once on a sampire. It does take too long for me to want to repeat it alone.

I used to solo doom all the time and never had a problem [alot of kiting though!]
Iv just swapped focus and bushido out for music and provo to make life easier with the DF, havent tried it yet but apparantly its a doddle to solo doom with bard archer.

Once i was alone in Doom on archer and took DF's hp down to 50%, it took me 40-50 minutes. Was just running around and moving shot him with my favorite demon slayer heavy arbalet. But then some tamer came in and DF was dead very fast.
