Here is my take and most of you know it is a hard line one if you know me.

I think EA is Finlay doing the right thing as far as banning and I have still to see a credible person that was wrongly banned that did not own up (bye there own admissions) they made a mistake against the roc (even if the roc wasn't as enforced as hard as it is now).

    What I know is this.

I know for a fact the search engine that has all the item lists and prices in Luna on every shard is done through a script. It is against the roc and its about damn time they started banning people for promoting scripts.

The Whispering Radio issue to me is more iffy but if there using ads from other sites that make there living off of UO then they more likely then not are using cheats dupes or scripts to some degree or another to achieve the pixels they are selling to live off of in rl and bye default WWR is supporting and promoting them bye using them as advertisers and are violating the ROC bye doing so.

I think what is happening is backlash and anger bye the ones that did cheat are exploiting this situation bye paging on others that are not aware the sites there promoting are against the ROC (ignorance is not an excuse though and the banning are clearly justified) and the original cheaters are doing this clearly to try and create hysteria and try to get so many people banned that the rules are changed and they get there own accounts back. I find it odd that almost all of the people originally banned have low posts counts and are not known bye the greater amount of people on there own shards as being upstanding players. It makes them to me personally to make them lack credibility.

The banning that are now happening are being done out of pure spite bye this that clearly don't care about anything or anyone but themselves and are just now trying to ruin others game play because they got caught and are mad they got caught. I know people will argue about the game being to slow and not fair and everyone else is doing it arguments but its simple.

This is the way the rules are right now and whatever you did to get banned was against the roc and suck it up and move on and stop trying to change the rules or hurt others because you think you're justified and you're a crusader that is going to change how uo is ran or what is legal. EA is not going to lose customers flippantly. There not stupid and if they are banning an account you can be sure something was done that was against the rules.

I spend way too much time doing things honestly for others to get the same results but never seeing them do the same amount of footwork I or my guild does. I am also tired of them lieing about it. So I am thrilled that EA is taking this hard line.

    Nicely said.

As I said in another thread: EA appears to be getting serious about cleaning up the culture of UO and that is a VERY GOOD SIGN for the long run. I'm a bleeding heart for a sad story, but it also means that people need to take a second look at who they are dealing with be a little more cautious of disgruntled people with an axe to grind.

I don't think EA is doing anything different to what they have been doing, it's just because one or more people have paged on JC for the UOGuide link, people read about it and for ***** and giggles, decided to page on WRR during their event, to.

It'll keep happening, because people will be on the lookout for any books, or url's either spoken or written in people's profiles.

what I find ironic as well is that people just dont bother with the ruleset and bother to know whats legal or not and take others words for what is legal or not. Is there half arsed I am sorry youre account was banned going to mean anything in tyhe greater scheme of things?

Yes...we all totally understand that banning someone for linking straitics (just wait for that one ACTUALLY happen), UOguide, and WRR in game is much more important than spending time trying to catch unattended farmers. You can't possibly be serious with this can you?

I don't think you will find a SINGLE person arguing that those sites should be linked in games. All you really have to say in game though is to go to a search engine and do a search for uo vendor searching sites. Thats enough to make a plethera of them come up, and you haven't posted a single URL.

They aren't making that much money of of UO because UO is a dead game. Those sites still exist because they are making money off of games like WoW, AoC, LOTRO, and EQ2. They could stop selling UO items completely and they would probably only see the profit line drop by MAYBE 5-6k a year. For any self employed person that is making a profit 5-6k a year is a joke. They normally pay more than that in taxes.

They aren't going to get their accounts back. What is truely happening is that EA, which has never had any problem in the past for the exchange of UO items for in game cash even during the eBay years where people were actually making a load of money from those sales, suddenly thinks it can change those rules.

Low post counts mean very little other than that you only post when you need to. Not being known as an upstanding person on your shard means nothing because as anyone that pvps can tell you, many people are judged simply by their guild name and if you are doing well as a pvp guild you normally get a bad reputation. That doesn't make you a bad person, but people assume that it does.

I agree...no one should ever question the fairness of a law or rule. By that logic we should all still be owning slaves and it shouldn't be illegal to beat your wife because she is your property too. It is people that stood up and said that rules and laws were unfair over the years that made this world the place it is today.

I don't agree. They really don't care how many players they lose in UO right now because if they lose to many they will just shut it down. They are going to increase their revenues by at least (conservatively) 10-20 million next month with the release of WAR, so I really doubt losing 1 thousand this month due to mass bannings really means crap to them.

They do its just thru a different method. That real life money takes effort to get to. In a lot of cases it takes more effort to get than in game gold. If someone wants to spend their real life money on a video game to give them an edge that they wouldn't otherwise have then that is their decision to make and their right. EA is also not a great company to try to enforce rules against the sale of ingame items for RL cash seeing they themselves sell ingame items for RL cash (transfers, advanced characters, and legacy tokens).

You're a bit behind the times. That one happened yesterday.

People have also been banned for mentioning URLs that don't actually exist.

You are a tad misinformed because if you read that post in its entirity the op comes back and admits its a total joke and that he was just trying to see who would actually believe he got banned for that reason.

    Thats why I say ACTUALLY.

On a side note: You might want to watch linking locked posts as it is against the ROC.

Gah. My bad. I only read that thread while it was in it's infancy, didn't check it again after the OP made his admission...

How do you know they are lying about it? How do you know they arnt putting in the same "footwork" you and your guild does? Not everyone who might be as good or even better than you is a cheater. I read that in just about all your posts. If someone is better at something than you are, they MUST be cheating right.

I do think that banning for URL's is a little silly. Especially since they allowed the ones that were being used to hack peoples accounts went on and on and on for months.

These are exactly the questions that remain unanswered by those witch-hunters active on the boards. They simply put up accusations they can't give any proof for, what is a blatent abuse of these forums imho.

If the stratics one is true, then it was a bad business practice no matter how it was looked at:

    http://www.uo.com/cgi-bin/newstools.pl?Article=7403

Either a GM wasn't informed of this policy which means they aren't trained properly (bad business practice), or this policy has changed without removal of this page or any communication with the player base (bad business practice). Since Jeremy speaking as a representative of EA Mythic posted last Friday, I suspect this policy toward the stratics boards hasn't changed.

I would like to know which sites have actually resulted in 24-hour bands (confirmed by EA Mythic) - uoforums, uoguide, uo.stratics, etc. There have been times in the past when I've had to help a new player with stuff either for skills I didn't know (taming) or skills I GMed so long enough they have changed considerably (a long list). I generally refer them to Stratics or recently uoguide because giving them the answer isn't as useful as teaching them how to find the answer to future questions. With uo.com's playguide being less than complete, sites like uoguide and uo.stratics are vital to helping new players.

And before someone says "there aren't any new players," there are still a few from time to time, and old players come back from time to time who also know nothing about the current game.

There are no official forums for UO anymore, as confirmed by Jeremy
It was revoked when Mythic took over and cancelled the fansite program.

I did ask Jeremy for clarification on the URL thing today and her response basically said, that as long as a site has no ad banners or advertisements, then it's ok.

"if the website is not “selling, marketing or advertising” anything, it’s fine."

So we can't direct new players to any site other than uo.com that might actually contain answers to their questions? Good to know.

Most small guild pages don't contain information on all 40+ skills or all 100+ monsters or each material or the complete karma/fame guide or whatever. If they are cracking down on mentioning stratics and uoguide, I have to say I'm worried.

I will blatantly admit that I will keep using that UO searching website until the real game gives me something just as convenient. I'm not wasting hours of my life rooting through 400 vendors looking for the item I want, just because OH NOES IT USES A SCRIPT!

Landicine, read the other posts from the person that fibbed about the Stratics one.
    It was just another 'joke'.

Yeah, but as somone pointed out, Stratics has no official relationship now, and with the problems with uoguide and Whispering Rose Radio (which according to google was mentioned 21 times on uo.com), it isn't worth risking it. I will just tell them to use an unnamed search engine.

There is nothing " new" about it. Grief playing or honest players so sick of of the bs they are resorting to the rules?

Getting someone suspended by lying about what a URL listed in a player's profile did to them and then bragging about it on a message board ISN'T griefing?

Looking around TRYING TO FIND people with URLs in their profiles or mentioning URLs at an event advertised on Five on Friday just to see if they can get someone suspended isn't griefing?

Please. Stop spitting on my leg and telling me it's raining. I'm not buying it. (Yes I know the actual quote, considering it somewhat cleaned up for the board)

I'm all for getting rid of exploiters, dupers, and hackers, but being a griefer because of a personal vendetta or tweaking a player run event IS NOT going to help the cause any.
