File a report with your local law enforcement agency and then EA will give them the ip details of whoever is stealing from you.

Account hacking IS theft and if reported, the Police will investigate it and hopefully prosecute.

    Good luck.......

Actually, I'd rather someone showed up at ea's door...we were both on the phone to them, his phone died and they wouldn't give a call back, my rep said they wouldn't call. the secret question and answer was useless and even tho I myself have gotten old acct info without needing the cc used or code, the scumbag who got the info merely called them and got the info, got into the acct and my rep denies that can happen. All we keep getting is "go to live chat" and still NO GM

Sounds like you were doing/did all you could.

What I'd like is your friend to tell us what he did to give hackers access to his account.

    Did he/she:

    1. Give his/her best 'friend'/gf/bf ingame or irl their account info/password?

    2. Visit player run websites or buy gold or items from websites and/or give these players/websites his ICQ/email and then accept or open links sent by them?

    3. Download and use unapproved 3rd party programs?

    4. Wear a halo and read a holy book whilst playing UO?

Nobody with any type of online account likes a hacker, but honestly I think reasons 1-3 are the main reasons people get their UO accounts hacked.

PREVENTION is the best method for stopping account hackers so your friend could do other UO players a service by being specific about his UO habits (without breaking Stratics naming rules).

That being said I hope your friend DOES file a police report and the hacker gets in trouble irl and that your friend doesn't lose too much.

"...the scumbag who got the info merely called them and got the info..."

If your friend buys gold or items from websites and gives them the same info he/she uses to pay for their UO account(s):

    1. Real name, address, telephone number

    2. Same credit card info

Then why couldn't a gold selling website just use that info to call EA and claim they forgot their UO account name and password but here is there name, address, telephone number and the actual credit card they used to pay for it last?

The last form of payment is what EA uses to establish ownership of an account, so they will ask for the credit card number or gametime number last used.

apparently, the looter somehow got the acct name we dont know how, but the looter claims my friend gave it to him but my friend said no freakin way, no one knows it but him. The guy then called ea and they gave him the pw. He then reactivated the acct (it was inactive) and began looting it. EA required NO acct info like cc or card before giving out the pw, which I know from firsthand experience that they will do, altho the rep i was talking to said that doesnt happen

My 16 year old had the account she played on hacked in a minor way, but she probably gave the account info to a boy she liked ingame.

When her password didn't work one day I called EA and had to give them my credit card info to get them to change the hacker 'changed' password for me.

Hacked in a minor way meant the password had been changed and some personal details like name and address had been changed and gender changed from female to male.

I know she had already lost items ingame because she shared a house with this guy she liked and he had already taken items out.

He appears to be doing 5 years in prison now in real life for a sex crime....

People can guess your account name but EAs not gonna give out password info without some proof you own that account.

I can't believe that based on my experiences with them regarding lost/changed passwords.

If that's the case, then why did they give me info over the phone on five inactive accts I had without requiring me to provide proof I owned them? It depends on the rep you get and how lazy they feel atm I guess. All I did was give them the acct names and they gave me the pw's, no questions asked

Update: He finally got EA to boot the guy off his acct and everything is being given back!!!!!!!! I still think he should file a police report tho.
I still want to know why, if we are supposed to have a secret question on the acct for security reasons, it did absolutely no good whatsoever in preventing or helping this situation.

Because EA isnt following their own security policies consistently. My friends acct was given back finally and is now in the process of figuring out his losses. So far, the guild wasnt disbanded (he was the gm) but all his chars were booted and someone else was elevated to gm, and a bunch of others got booted, like me, probly cuz he didnt like what i was telling the victim what to do to get his acct back, lol.

Well if you choose secret question:

What city where you born in?

And you put the real name of the real city you were born in and all your 'friends' in UO know where you where born...

Or, as someone else pointed out in another thread one time, you choose this security question:

    What's your favorite EA game?

    U

    O

    ?

I don't see any 'hacking' here. What you all are talking about is called
    'social engineering'

Hacking is when you brute force a system without lube until it's forced to give you it's secrets.

Maybe EA is giving him his stuff back because they realize their mistake in giving out the info to the wrong party?

Yeah, either something has changed in a major way or this is just BS.

I am going with the BS option.

True, but hacking was the only word i could think of atm. I was in a frenzy to try and help him. I don't even think it was "social engineering", just ea's ineptitude.

I was gonna comment about EA's customer NO Service and Customer NO Support;I won't.

I'm just greatful your friend is getting their acount and all their stuff back.

However I will say this to EAMythic: If you would like to hire someone with
10+ years of expirence in dealing with customers, has no issues with relocation, long hours, and hourly pay rate. I strive VERY hard to always make my customers happy, I believe the Customer is always right.
Please let me know where I can send my resume.

Tis always the "Friend" that posts.... why is it that most account problems seem to be with Felucca players or done by felucca players? I am not saying this is the case but it seems like allot of account problems are because people use Ultima Online like its fricken EHarmony.com or the only place they can have friends.

Uhhh...No. Its my boss is incompetent, I hate my job and they don't pay me squatt around here roll. I'm hanging in there cause let's face it the economy sucks big time.

Sides I wouldn't ban anyone UNLESS they are violating the TOS/ROC.
Not like someone IS NOT grounds for banning and I am neither that petty nor immature as to do something like that.

Now if for example if I pulled you into UO jail to talk to you because I reicieved a complaint about you and you told me to "STFU". Yeah I'd give you an automatic 24 hr "holiday" to meditate on proper social interaction and to chill dude.

I am of a mind that generally with most complains talk to both parties throughly BEFORE make a decsion. Now something like what happened to expiremental's friend ...I'd get their account back immediately.

Also if I were the phone support BEFORE I gave anyone any info they'd be giving me the credit card last used to pay for the account and anwser the account security question.

Now do you still think I'd make a crappy UO CS person?

As it turns out, it was an acct he bought some months ago and it was the original owner who called ea :/ , because the EA transfer method wasnt used.
He was also told that buying an acct from a third party is illegal and the acct in question is now being banned. Way to go EA!!

  24. Nice!
Now.....about that side by side castle setup I had in Luna on one acct and the same on another acct in the Royal city right next to the soulforge..............

    hehehe
sorry jirel......i had to go there!!:mf_prop:

  25. QFTW.

As much crap as Jirel has given all and any of the EA reps you think they would hire her?
I hope they hire her to make her relocate just to fire her for all the "S" talk she has given them.
    ;)

From how Jirel handles her attitude and anger her on the forums I would say she wouldn't make a good customer service rep anywhere.

This post goes from "My friend was hacked" to "He would never give his info to anyone" to "The account was taken over by the original owner".

IMO BOTH of you should be banned for life.

At least you were brave enough to come back and tell the truth.

the thing with the secret question is you dont actually answer the correct answer for the question.. that way nobody can guess it.

my secret question answer doesnt even have anything to do with the subject.

like what city was you born in? cheesecake..

It was my friends secret question, not the guy he bought the acct from. Isnt the secret question supposed to be part of stopping ppl from getting access to an acct by calling EA?

with what you said about the other guy starting the account they can look up the first set of info if it has been changed..

the only way to clear the previous owners info is to pay ea to transfer the account.

if i opened up an account and then gave someone the password and they changed all the info, all i have to do is call them up and say i cant access my account and give them my original info. even if its been years..

Well "Illegal" is not really the right word... more like not supported. If I give/sell you an account and then call support and say I can't get in (for whatever reason) but have the CD code or original information I will most likely get my account back. As someone mentioned above the original/last owners info is on file even if the billing info/password has been changed. This is partially why they offer the service so it is "official" and it doesn't hurt that they make money off of the transaction.

It is like the story of Solomon from the Bible (it may be in other books, but the Bible is the one I am "most" familiar with)... Two women claim to be the mother of the same child. Solomon offers to settle the dispute by having the baby cut in half so each could have part of the whole. Of course the real mother of the child was horrified and would have rather let the child live with the false mother rather than see the child destroyed. I believe the false mother was satisfied with the decision to cut the child in half so both would suffer. In the end Solomon realized that the true mother was the woman that asked him to spare the child's life.

I am sure I have left out much detail as it was in my youth that I read the story, but the thought is that when there is no official record of a transfer, but claims of dual ownership and the existence of multiple billing profiles... they have no other option, but to cut the child in half (read ban the account) so both parties end up suffering. Unlike with a child neither person claiming to be the rightful account owner will say "let the child live." There really is no other choice for EA but to ban the account and all the more reason to use the official method for account transfer ESPECIALLY if you do not completely trust the person you are receiving/purchasing the account from.

Huh, a lot of strange stuff going on here...

So now you're saying the account is going to be banned because it was bought through a 3rd party?

I'm having a hard time believing a lot of the stuff I',m reading here...

Either that or the rep you got from EA needs better training.

I'm going to say no to this. It is not illegal. Just recommended to use the account transfer from EA. In my understanding it is completely legal to just give accounts to people.

Not everyone does 1,2, or 3. I know I dont and I was hacked once. I was lucky and happened to be on another account at brit bank when I seen one of my chars from my 2nd account run by, I was like what the hell. I logged off and logged in to that account and stopped them by playing who can stay logged in longer while my wife call EA.

Just today I got an Email saying someone requested my WoW password and account info, which is fine with me. I have never played WoW and dont have a WoW account. But if I had I might have clicked the link that they had in the email, which looks like a real address. Instead I just deleted it.

Anyhow to the OP, good luck to your friend. Hope all works out.

    Tom

So you got hacked through no fault of your own, but then say that you might click a link on an unsolicited e-mail asking for an account login and password? You probably didn't get hacked, you gave it away.....

"Just today I got an Email saying someone requested my WoW password and account info, which is fine with me. I have never played WoW and dont have a WoW account. But if I had I might have clicked the link that they had in the email, which looks like a real address. Instead I just deleted it. "

To see how incredibly crazy this is, replace "WoW password and account info" with "Bank account info".

But I know, don't tell me, even though you said you might have clicked on the link but didn't because you don't have a WoW account, nor ever did....you would never do this, you were talking about someone else might have done this.....

A vast majority of the "hacking" that is done is not true "hacking", but someone somewhere being social engineered into giving up vital information, or even information not vital, but information that allows further social engineering to be successful. This is not "hacking", but "scamming". Your friend got scammed. Best way to avoid this particular scam is insisting on going through the EA/Mythic account transfer process. Anyone selling an account and not willing to go through this process should be suspect (and if you disagree, let me just tell you that I am really a member of an illegally deposed royal family in Africa and that I need help moving $100 million out of an account so that I can aid my people. If you will just open a bank account with $1000 in it, and give me the account number and bank transfer code, i will move my $100 million through the account, but leave behind $1 million for you as a token of me and my peoples gratitude.... :) )
