Sure it is not as bad as other shards but why do I see so much of it here?

I remember a time when afk macroing was perma-ban from UO if you did it on Siege Perilous...

A warning to all you people out there, I will kill you if I find you're afk macroing.
You are not welcome in UO and especially not Siege so get lost...

i like it when they afk on an island thinking its empty and no one would ever chance upon them, well low and behold a pirate sails up to the shore and strikes em down with some arrows and loots their 100% lrc suit wooot!

Yep. Lots o' cheaters. I guess you haven't heard of EA's policy of dealing with cheaters/exploiters/scammers though. It's the same policy of dealing with trammies. They bring them money, so the devs let them live, when they should squash them and send them to hello kitty online where they belong...but then there would only be 100 people left playing UO.

Just because someone doesn't want to talk to you, doesn't make them an afk macroer. This may be hard for you to digest, but some people just don't like to talk.

I know most don't care.... but how do you tell someone that is afk from someone that has lost conn?

It's happened to me a couple times now.... especially at Luna bank, there is a trading bug. If you trade an item with another player, 1 out of 10 times you will lose connection.

Happened to me last night... I was out shopping and sure enough I lost conn... by time I got back on I was a ghost and dry looted. No big lost... crap happens... would like to know who dry looted me tho....

Unless someone is resource farming of some kind than who cares, is it really that big of a deal to people that people dont want to sit at their computer for 5 hours to gain in one skill when they can just leave something heavy on the space bar and go eat dinner watch tv whatever doesnt matter because they would be doing the same thing anyways, this way they dont have to log in and out every 5,10,15,20 minutes.

So again unless someone is resource farming leave em be, those people enjoy the game just as much as you. they just dont want to waste their time watching the clock or waiting for their egg timer to go off.

I tend to agree. I've played UO for 8 years and have "worked" on so many characters between 8 accounts that I can't even count how many I've mad 7x GM or better across several shards. I feel that I've done more than enough "work" in UO and I'm really rather tired of it. I don't gather resources afk, but I don't see any big crime with using UOA to help a bit with RoT on some skills.

I personally would like to see the devs create a skill gain system that wasn't so friendly to macroing. What we have now encourages it by design.

I agree. I have worked up so many skills, I am tired and done with the active gaining. If I can afk macro it then I will. It's not the players, but the stupid RoT what makes me do it. Am so freaking fed up with the 10 and 15 minutes wait.

There, see I cheat.

I guesss it all depends on one's view or approach to someone that may appear to be AFK.

They could have just lost connection.

They may be yackin away in vent to their mates, not really afk yet not paying a darn bit of attention *in a town* they are in, too busy blabbing to guildies on their vent or icqs atm...yet sort of there and not.

I oft see someone that *appears* to be afk at a bank and first thing I do is ask
*are you ok?* They may or may not answer.

I can draw a few conclusions if they do not answer..
they busy blabbing to mates in icq standing at a bank thinking they safe...
they do not even want to say 'yeh im ok qz'...to me won't be the first time
or they lost connection possibly...
or yes they might be AFK.

And sometimes someone may be AFK momentarily as their rl dog barfed on their carpet .... I don't assume they are cheating...maybe their baby or dog barfed up a hair ball...in rl right beside em at their computer and they cleanin up the mess atm, there and not there afk. [IMG]

I oft cast invis. on some of em.. and go about my business.

*depends whom they are* I guess.

if you want to kill them because they are AFK resource gathering more power to you, otherwise leave em be they didnt do anything and all you did was probably [censored] up their RoT for the day.

Yeah, reducing the shards population just because someone didn't want to mindless work ROT is really QFTworthy.

I'd have to see a video of someone drooling, half asleep, at their computer, to believe ANYONE, including our beloved Masumatek, doesn't setup a macro to work rot in some way or another.

24. Are you serious? Why would you care if anyone is macroing? Does it affect you in any way? Does it bother you that they are building there skills up without being at the keyboard? If so why? What possible negative effect does that have on the game? What that there isn't as many people out there for you to hunt down? Look that is as bad as someone complaining that all people are doing is stealthing around. Look it is part of the game so deal with it, quit whining and play your game. If you do not macro then congrats to you, I guess you had much more useless time than other players that do macro!

Let me clarify there is a big difference to me between someone putting something on the hot key while they go outside to smoke, get up to fix a sandwich, grab a drink or take the dog out ect; or someone actually running a script so the game plays itself for hours on end. You kill them the first few times and watch there ghost try to continue scripting. Then you page on em the next time they do the same thing. That is also how you can be pretty darn sure someone is scripting (nothing in life is 100%).

Running for hours while im sleeping may be the only time i have to get my RoT in. who says i dont work from 6am to 5+pm every day and then go home and play with my daughter for a few hours before we both have to hit the hay.

Me (hypothetically) gaining in my sleep does you absolutely no harm and gives me the same opportunity to play and be on the same lvl. If i were to only play and gain working that schedule it would take years to build up my 3 chars. that doesnt sound that fair now does it>?

I do ROT without macros. I pretty much do UO nearly 10 yrs. without macros.

I DO have UO Assist, friend of mine talked me into it years ago so I got it on one acct. to turn wool to yarn to cloth but forgot how to use that ...so but by the time I figure out how to do some macro, I could have done something myself ...faster or sooner, even on dialup. I just never got into UOA nor macros. I do fathom their convenience for those that are into building macros.

I just rather do junk myself, rely on my self, rather than to figure out 'how to'
do macros. So when UOAssist fails with new patches and publishes or everyones macros dirtnap... it just does not bother me in the least, no macros to loose ever.

I think I have some in game macros, that are for *I wish to lock this down* and I wish to secure this* and the *guards guards* macro is just to get all my parrots to talk at once.

I even type BANK or click on the npc to open my bank, when I am banking, no macro for that either.

So I have done all my Siege ROT gains, without any macros. Guess I am just not into .. macros.

I truly do see your point AEowyn, but consider this. Macroing RoT does nobody any harm. It does not impact the economy or anyone who plays this in a positive or negative manner, other than the sole individual benefiting from it by allowing them to have a character ready to play in 3-4 months instead of a year or two. I take that back, it does have the positive impact that someone can be ready to play sooner than much later.

I see this as being analogous to people breaking minor laws that have no impact on anyone else. Kinda like jaywalking on a back county road with no cars for miles or "trespassing" into someone's lawn a few feet to retrieve your kid's baseball. No harm done although technically illegal.

Alas, we can share our perspectives and agree to disagree. This isn't a battle I feel is worth fighting, though I will certainly share my feelings on the topic.

Ok yall are confusing me. RoT past 80 with 6 skills is 4 times using your skills for your gains. So ya log in get your gains walk away, come back in 15-20 minutes gain again...do that 4-5 times and your done for the day. Why would anyone need to afk macro there rot gains? I thought we were discussing script farming/crafting ect. I can't say I have ever seen anyone afking there rot gains.

I agree... the way RoT is set up now... it actually benefits you more if you're a casual player

6 skills + .1 you will only have to log in 3-4 times to hit your RoT cap for the day... (my cousin and I are actually doing that now on his char Hellfire)

SO yeah... but for complete honestly... who gives a squat if someone's macroing skills.... we're at the point in UO where if your chars not complete or almost there, its worthless. Let them afk macro their chars... so what? Doesn't hurt nobody.

Now if someones trying to use afk scripting to play the game for them... ie Hunt spawn, gather resources, so on and so on... well [censored] em... they deserve a giant boot in the ass.

The defense of afk skill training in this thread is unbelievable.

LOL. I find it funny so many people defend cheating to get ROT gains yet so many also oppose a major ROT change....And LOL again, some people like to say ROT keeps people from gaining through cheating. LOL at that theory.

Claudio should be commended for catching a cheater and disposing of him, not criticized. I know I and my guildmates also dispose of cheaters, whether they be skill training, resource gathering, scripting for runics, or whatever. Wth has happened to Siege? The good guys get criticized and laughed at. Well I guess at least in the past the cheaters were too afraid to speak up much, but now they're not. I guess that's the only good thing in this thread. We can see who the cheaters really are since there's no longer a reason for them to hide from the gms and the community:(.

ROT in its current state is NOT good for the casual player.

"-----Some people oppose a major ROT change because they think ROT is good for the “casual player.” It may seem so on the surface….This is because people are comparing ROT to trammel shard training, where some of the skills take many resources and a long time to train, whereas ROT allows them to get guaranteed gains with few resources.

However, though ROT may seem to cater to the casual player on the surface, in reality the exact opposite is true. ROT hurts the casual player. A casual player may not have time to get their max gains a day. A casual player isn’t going to be logging in every day. The casual player can be stuck in training far longer than other players because they aren’t playing as much. It can take 6 months and in many cases much longer for the “casual player” to finish training.

No, ROT is for the power gamers. It is good (well not really good…just less bad) for the people that log on and time their gains through the delays, getting their max gains a day. It is for the people that log on every day. And for those that want to avoid it, they can purchase accounts, which is something most casual players do not do. ROT certainly does NOT cater to the casual player. And people are in error in thinking it does simply by comparing its simpler, less resources training to a few skills on trammel shards.

Furthermore, people who cite this reason as one against a ROT change aren’t being specific as they should. There is absolutely no reason for them to oppose for instance a shortening of gain delay and an increase in the allowed gains per day. Their argument would have to be for opposing such things as a removal of ROT and reintroduction of trammel shard skill training system. Certainly NOT opposing a change to ROT to make it faster. Yet they lump it all into one and say “a ROT change is not good for the casual player,” which is completely wrong."

To the best of my knowledge I have never cheated in this game, and I never will.

FYI, it took me around 10 months to fully train my first character, because I slowly gained through PvP and didn't actually "train" and "time delays" and get my "max gains" and all this other nonsense that we have to do that just takes away from the enjoyment of the game. I didn't even do power hour, server lining, or 8x8, and all were options when I did my character. So screw you.

False harassment pages will end up getting YOUR butt in jail and suspended. At least they used to. I have only ever paged on one person for this in all my UO time and it was quite legitimate (some jerk cussing my son in Trammel). The GM gave us a warning then to not abuse this kind of thing, despite never having done it before.

If you want to page, do it, but don't lie about it. Two wrongs?

Just something to think about.

???

If you try paging on people through the normal method of other-other or whatever it is, often the GMs will tell you to use the physical harassment way of reporting people. I've done it many times. And it often works:). I sure haven't seen those script miners around and their house went idoc...

Mas, I don't think anyone is saying that AFK RoT macroing is OK to do by the rules, but many of us are at the point that we've played for years and we are flat out sick and tired of working tedious skills month after month. AFK RoT macroing is not anywhere in the same league as using a script to gather resources or make money so quit lumping them together. Thats like saying public urination is just as bad as ****. Not even close.

Many of us have GM'd+ literally HUNDREDS of skills on both trammel facet shards and on Siege the old fashioned way and are done "working" in this damn game. I play UO only a few hours a week now and that's what I want to do, play. How does someone training a skill in the privacy of their home affect you or anyone else in a negative way? If you convince me that this is something that's harmful to another person or the community at large, I'll never do it again. If it hurts noone and only serves to get more people out and about, being part of the community sooner rather than later, how exactly is this a bad thing, other than being "against the rules", which we all know aren't enforced by the 1 GM they still have working at EA.

I'm almost able to look the other way when it comes to AFK training, but...

What program are people DLing to do it? You have to ask the question, "If they use it for training, what's to keep them from taking the next step and using it for BODs, gold farming, healing themselves, etc...?"

I've heard numerous stories about some of the crap out there that "makes UO so easy". No matter how innocent one use of it may sound to me, there are many others that are just [censored] wrong man.

You know, I bet that if even half of the lazy asshats who take the time to DL these programs instead chose to email a Dev or complain on UHall about ROT reform, we would have a better ROT system here on Siege Perious.

I applaud the OP for paging on these people. Keep up the good work. We need more people playing Siege who respect and love this game, and fewer of the "WAAH I CAN'T LEAVE THE HOUSE CUZ I'M ONLY 107 SWORDS CUZ MY CAT UNPLUGGED MY BOT" type.

Boy, quite the hot topic.

Not sure exactly how I feel on this, though I do think scripted resource gathering needs paging on.

I will note, just for the sake of providing the data, that I'm a very casual player. In fact I'm pretty much on a UO vacation. But over the many years I've been here I've never once had a fully trained character. Not once. Every character of mine, which really just means both of them, has been in training all these years. Neither Lindi nor Lindisfarne has ever actually finished their training, not even when I was more active.

Not sure where that puts me though, in favor or against. I know I've never macro'd afk. I also know if I had I would've finished my character's long long ago.

There, no opinions offered, but it's the only two cents I have on the topic.

Thats like saying public urination is just as bad as ****.

Now how do you argue with a statement like that? That's just...effective.

...

I can make comparisons too. Murdering 10 people is much worse than murdering 1 person.

Guess what? In both cases it is wrong. Why are we comparing some types of cheating to other types and trying to determine which is more wrong? Why does it matter? It doesn't. The issue is not that some types of cheating are worse than others, but rather that cheating is cheating. Afk macroing/scripting is cheating. And it is wrong.

44. that's like saying stealing your twinkie is as bad as murder...

right mas?

Let me clarify there is a big difference to me between someone putting something on the hot key while they go outside to smoke, get up to fix a sandwich, grab a drink or take the dog out ect; or someone actually running a script so the game plays itself for hours on end. You kill them the first few times and watch there ghost try to continue scripting. Then you page on em the next time they do the same thing. That is also how you can be pretty darn sure someone is scripting (nothing in life is 100%).

Wrong, if I'm running a spirit speak macro, and you kill me, how in the world can you tell if my ghost is trying to spirit speak or not? Maybe I just want to sit there looking at you, besides, macroing is not illegal, only afk macroing. So I ask, how can you tell if I'm at my keyboard or not?

Yep. I agree. I was just about to say...why are you guys posting this in the first place? If you have time to argue that cheating is OK because our ROT system sucks, is that time not better spent asking for the a major change to the ROT system so it doesn't suck anymore?

And yep...I'm not saying this is with you Rykus...but you gotta wonder how it is with many....I bet most people start off as occasional cheaters using the "small, less important cheats" that have "less of an impact on the game," and it only takes off from there. There's a word for this...the domino effect I think.

I fully agree on afk resource gatherers. That does absolutely impact the economy and has ripple effects as well.

*nods*

It only effects the economy when you guys "knowingly" go to their vendors and buy from them in their selling threads.

I have already killed you once for AFK marcoing. I caught you running a rail in Trinsic a few weeks back and killed you. Feel free to lie about it all you want but I know what I saw.

49. We are talking about a GAME Mas, I don't hold the same moral expectations on people in a gaming environment as I do the real world. I've never skilled via unattended macroing in all the time I've played, but I'm not going to condemn people who have.

It gets sickening training the same skills over and over again, and if people want to do it unattended then it's fine by me. They STILL have to wait the amount of time required for RoT, and they also risk their account (by the time you get past 6 on the queue they'll probably have finished the character). That is a choice they make, and not open to your judgement.

EDIT: Resource gathering is, unfortunately, the same situation. I hate it, but no matter what we say or do, until EA decided it's time to stop it, it won't stop.

Only EA can judge these people against the ToS, and they choose not to. Even if you did page on them, by the time you got past 6 in the queue they'd have a finished character.
