Allow pet sales on vendors!!

I know its hard for me to get a blue beetle or whatnot on a shard I just started on, likewise I think it is just as hard for others to do the same. Heck even getting a dragon or something is a challenge for someoen who dont have honor or another pet to beat down said dragon to tame.

    With that in mind...

Use context menu choose "Transfer" target your vendor, it will ask for a price, you put price in and it will look like an ethy or statue, be reverted to "a giant beetle" or "a rune beetle" with a price.

When a potential customer comes along, they can Lore the pet for sale as they would lore a normal pet to get stats. Then they can buy it just as you normally would any other item.

    Like it?

Nice Idea, just not sure how easy it would be to add into game. What shard are you playing?

I play on multiple shards, it was just an idea that popped in my head I thought I would share.

  4. Great Idea. This may help boost (slightly) the profitability of the taming profession.

Making it easier to buy pets would also encourage more people to try out various pets. Eg. a tamer is interested in a getting a rune beetle, but doesn't have any pvm friends logged in to support him in the field. Buying it from a vendor makes it easier for him to get a beetle, which means more fun (less frustration) in UO.

Devs, please implement this in a future Publish.

  5. VERY good idea IMHO!

Only issue I see is someone using a vendor no one can reach as an extended stable.

Well, to combat this you can have a pet auto-unbond as soon as it is put into the vendor.

  11. Kiminality

    Kiminality Guest

Any vendor can be reached, even inside a locked house.

Perhaps an alternative could be, to throw an idea I just cobbled together out there.
A one-charge craftable item, which requires one uncommon ingredient per 20 required taming. To convert the pet into a statue form for either storage or trade on a vendor.

Just use the house sign. Every vendor can be reached from it.

They should have done this long ago. Just un bond the pet when it goes in.

Nothing if the pet becomes unbonded the instant it is placed on the vendor.

Nice idea - pets on vendors, I like it very much. Get a poll going to see if everyone agrees and hopefully if its a good turn out the Dev's will take a look at it.

Sounds like a damn good idea, Coragin.

I still wish we could get back to the open markets where players shouted out what they were selling, and have that old personal touch back. But we don't have that anymore, and this seems like an excellent idea for today's game.

It's a great idea, but just like the 10-12 other times it has been suggested over the last 7-8 years or so, it will get shouted down by the vocal minority, although I do agree that some of their reasons are valid.

If there is a way to work out things like not allowing people to have a hundred pet *statues* to avoid stable limits, nor a way of re-naming the actual tamable to sell it as something it isn't, etc, I think there shouldn't be any real reason to not work on something like this.

I've put some thought into it, and this is what I've come up with.

Use a modified system that we have for boats for pets. When you stable your pet, you can opt to get a "deed" for your pet that will detail its skills, stats, resistances, etc. This deed, when double clicked (must be done near a stable master) will summon the pet to you and change appropriate ownership. It can be insured, placed on vendors, and placed in trade windows. The pet remains in the owner's stable until the deed is used.

    Thoughts?

I think it's not a bad Idea.... but same as many other things it's been suggested a dozen times at least..... and like most things it falls on a blind eye....

though if they implement something like this everyone will cry about how devs wasted time on this that no one really wanted.... instead of fixing things that have been broke forever.

What would happen if a person without the appropriate taming/lore claimed a pet like a greater? Would they risk it going wild and eating them? or would it just say you cannot claim this pet?

Whats also to stop somebody from training their pets and then putting them in deed form and cranking the price to a ridiculous amount nobody would buy?

I'm sure with a message the first issue could be fixed but i'm not sure how the second could be fixed. Maybe making it so you cannot change your mind about taking it back once it's been deeded?

Either way i love the idea and i hope to see something like it soon!
    Nicely done

The first one, a skill requirement to use said creature can be put on the deed itself. I don't think that'd require TOO much work.

For the second one, that'll happen I'm sure. But if the seller changes his mind, he just takes his deed off the vendor and reclaims the pet from the deed/stable. He's under no obligation to sell it while it is in deed form, much like a boat owner is in no obligation to sell the boat when it's in boat statue form.

The answer I have thought about is slightly different than the deed option, but will still answer a couple of questions/concerns -

    1) Instead of a deed, do the pet in a similar fashion to ethy's. Those already have a limiter on who can and can't use them - I don't see where it would be impossible to use the year identifier as a skill/lore slot instead - and, on the upside, most, if not all, of the tamables are already in game art as either a vet reward statue, or as an etheral, or similar.

    2) What's to stop a person from just storing dozens/hundreds of pets, in *statue* form? It shouldn't be difficult to add a timer to the item in question that if, the statue isn't on a vendor, once 7/14/set time RL days have passed, said pet permanently becomes just that - a statue. So they have a nice new piece of deco (and a way that high end tamers could actually make a gp or two via the taming skill, vs all kill/bandy/bandy)

    3) What's to stop the person from just jacking up the price on the vendor? Well, it costs like 25gp a week to stable a pet - and while I realize that some people have more gold than the church, the pharaohs and Ft Knox combined, I would think *some* sense would be involved - I certainly wouldn't spend several hundred k a week to store a pet.

And, as a way to make sure that the system isn't completely abused, if a pet isn't on a vendor, and hasn't been turned to stone permanently, then the tamer can only keep a certain % of his stable slots over and above what they are normally entitled to - for example, a tamer can have 8 slots in the stable, then s/he could have 4 (@50%) or 6, or whatever arbitrary percentage someone wants to come up with, but definitely not more than an equal amount of slots - and this number should be based on real skill, and not jeweled up stats.

Have a hitching post that target responds just like a vendor. Four pets can be transfered to the post and set to sales price. Theese one - four count on stable slots. Bonded pets put to the post for sale loose bonding. The pets are tied to the post and visable for animal lore.

Doesn't really matter if a player has 5 billion pets in on the vender. Nobody hunts without a bonded pet anymore anyway they have to train it and they wont want to lose it as soon as it dies once. It's pretty much the same way that theres a billion of will be pets spawning on all shards every second they can't do nothing unless tame and bond them. If it's color pets they want to store and they jack the price up on it they gonna be losing more money than the pet is worth which makes more sense in buying multiple of them than to hold them on a vender people have gold not because they know how to **** it away easily. If the price is not too high then it will be bought up. So I don't see this as a issue at all. As long as you can place it on vender and can see there color and stats it's all good simple.

Stable and rental stable vendor deeds.
You buy a stable vendor set it up at your house. You tame something take it to your stable vendor say stable target cursor comes up you click on what you tamed it disappears a gump comes up for you to type in the price you want to sell it for then click ok. The stable vendors will work for everyone and will not interfere with your own stable slots, but you will still be charged the weekly stable fee, and also a vendor's daily fee. A book or deed will appear in the stable vendors back pack with everything about the new pet you tamed on it stats resists color etc, a buyer comes by to buy this new pet opens the vendors pack finds the book or deed with what they want to buy it. to claim the new pet they click on the deed then the stable vendor they bought the it off of. the new pet appears you gate it to a town stable feed it and stable it, If you do not have enough skill to own certain pets the stable vendor will refuse to sell it to you.
rental stable vendor deeds are for players who want to place these vendors and set them up at another players house.
These vendors will have there own stables ( like the chicken coops) so you will have to claim your pet once you buy it.

I don't really like it as it's another step away from interacting with other people.

I sell pets and I've never had trouble reaching customers or customers reaching me. Yes, it's a niche market but then once you've bonded the pet you'll theoretically never need the service again, so it balances out.

Let's leave this as one of the few remaining services where you actually need to seek out a professional. Bonding nearly killed the trade entirely, and NPC vets has taken much of the "need" to interact away, I don't think we really need to kick the living crap out of what's left.

Besides which, I don't think the taming profession needs a profitability boost of any sort, and this is coming from someone on the lower end of the earning scale. I could make a lot more gold by farming like everyone else, but I choose to tame with my tamer rather than hunt.

I'm not trying to preserve my "awesome" earning potential by disagreeing, just my playstyle.

Great idea! I would love to see something like this implemented. I agree that having the pet automatically un-bond once put on the vendor would solve a lot of issues of people using it for storage space. I don't think it should count towards stable slots but maybe have it hold a limited number of pets. If someone still wants to jack up the price and use it for storage well then it makes a great gold sink.

If it's going to be similar to a stable, it needs to count toward your stable slots. You can't put a new creature into your stables in Luna, Brit or wherever until the pet on your vendor is bought.

Not sure if anyone else has said that, b/c I'm still reading through this thread. Just thought I'd toss it out there real quick.

ETA: There's some good ideas in this thread, and I like most of them. But.... Perhaps instead of putting a pet on your vendor and it costing stable slots, maybe it could be a combination of stable slots and control slots...

Because if you were trying to sell or give away pets at a bank, you wouldn't be able to sell more than you could have in the stable or were attached to your control slots.

I'm not going to get my panties in a bunch if they do implement it in any other way suggested, that's just my perspective on the matter.

Hopefully if people keep suggesting it, they will eventually put it in like dual client and vets... :p

    Awesome idea!

Not the "special ingredients for statues", but all others: pet vendor, unbound pet vendor, ask for price by the time you put pet there (so people wont use vendor to keep pets like they use it as a 2nd bank).

Actually usual pets that are sold are only tamed on request. You want a dragon np give me a few minutes, want a beattle be back in 1 min etc.. Only Trained pets and special colored pets are stored in the stables. Maybe great stats. Still command a high price and any train pet would be bonded as well as rare color pets ect. If they decided to store a really good pet in a vender it wouldn't make sense price wise when it's practicaly free at the stable also the risk of it getting bought out anyway. People don't use venders to store there artifacts, items anyway cause the price will make no sense to keep it high enough so no one can buy it and the risk of losing it if someone with deep pockets pass along.

If you want a feature to be able to sell pets on venders we can't expect the dev to be able to handle it if too many demands are placed on it or mess it up. Look how long it took them to give us such little things. I say just use the existing vender system. Let the buyer be able to see stats and color on them in a deed, statue, crystal form. Make sure it unbonds when placed and where good to go shouldn't take longer than 6months from now to implement.

Anything extra than that can be added down the line if any problems arise. But start it of simple and uncomplicated both from a player point of view and from dev code which they still trying to understand UO patched code till this day. So we don't have to keep asking for it for another 5 years before they finaly get around to implementing it just like we being asking since venders first came out. Just think simple so we can get it in UO and not keep wishing for it and have this come back up 20 years later if we still around.

    I love it !

I usualy tame pets on request aswell.
(mostly fire beetles and giant beetles...occasionaly swampies)

But i'm not that often at Luna bank to take offers...
So a vendor would be a nice option.

Make them show up as miniatures in the vendor , showing the stats when players rub them with their cursor.
(for those who want special 4 star pets)

Transfer deed? When deed is created by the Tamer, stats are tagged to it as in a Lore scroll. Answers the stats view for a buyer. Place deed on vendor with price. Answers cost as well.

When a deed is created, any bonding is in place intil purchased. At time of purchase, bond is broken ans pet is standard unbonded item.

I think that might work. How about you?

What if they allowed pets to be sold back to the stablemasters. once a pet has been sold to the stablemaster it would become availible for him to resell until that stock is gone? not sure how hard it would be to code in but would aleiviate the concerns for stable slot abuse.
