Am I on the right track?

In the LA forum, I posted this thread where I'm looking to adjust my PvM Paladin specifically for nailing a GD solo. While he does get decent red into the GD health bar, he sees shades of gray all too often.

Please read the OP and then replies by Delbrie and Basara, then my subthread. Am I on the right track with adjustments to the character?

    Thanks!

What Kings X posted in the original thread is a good foundation in order to deal with 160's like a GD. I personally like having Spirit Speak over Anatomy for the added ability to leech against high end monsters via the Curse Weapon Spell.

Make sure you know the strengths and weakenesses of the monster your fighting so you can deal out maximum damage because what your leeching back is going to be dependent on your damage output.

For a Greater Dragon...you want to be using a 100% Cold damage Dragon Slayer weapon if possible to ensure your inflicting optimal damage.

Good luck and keep us posted on your progress.:thumbup1:

Dragons End is a 100% Cold Dragon Slayer - details here. Since it is a loaned weapon (really!) I don't think I want to chance SSI addition to it (breakage). So I'll need to compensate for that elsewhere and I'm still toying with a race change to Elf for the Mana boost.

    Thanks!

Dragon's End is that Imbueable? I don't think it is but if I'm wrong that would be a great weapon of choice. Adding Mana Leech and SSI would make it a very effective and worthwhile weapon against a GD.:thumbup1:

Just look at the stats for dragons end, ouch, it really isnt that great... you could burn some low end runics to create elemental damage, or use consecrate if you don't have problems getting mana vamped. Also, low end runics will help you make slayers or 30 ssi without needing to gather the resources. Lastly you can OVERWRITE any slayer with another so if you have a nice GD killer weapon but it's say, orc slayer, just overwrite it with dragon slayer.

GD's seem kinda tough. I can spank miasma and practically go afk but GDs seem to tear me a new one

GDs do tear me a new one with the current setup I have - including the DE sword. That's why I think reskilling (and even a race change) might make it a bit more feasible to do.

I'm usually soloing most of the time I'm hunting. I know certain things take a team to drop and have no problem doing that every so often. But GDs have "stuck in my craw" so to speak since they came on the scene. I want to be able to say - just once - "I solo'd one of them!! Woohoo!" <chuckle>

I want to be especially careful of that sword ... it truly was loaned to me. I agree that a good SSI on it would help a lot. <has a thought> Is a Soul Seeker (Repond slayer, 60% SSI and leeches) able to be imbued? Add Dragon Slayer on that and adjust the damage to cold? It's 100% Physical I believe. I just don't know enough on Imbuing ... think I'll go ask.

GD's also drive me batty with my sampire who is otherwise pretty buff. Fights with them often end with me dead. However, I find that with an archer, GD's become ridiculously easy. Still, I wish there were some better way. One thing that helps me is using a slayer daisho and feinting as much as possible. Just hav to time it right.

100% poison Dragon slayer, cast Corpse Skin.

If it makes you feel better they're tougher than AWs.

If you want to make it easier use a Daisho, Feint every 4th hit.

Really?!? Because that hasn't been my experience at all. I still find AWs much more powerful than GDs the GDs are easier to damage have less health usually and don't heal like crazy when they get redlined. I'd say AWs are still a bit tougher than GDs. IMO

AWs are easier to hit... have fewer hp, have no special moves and don't cast spells. (or at least not very well)
GD's lowest resist, however, is lower than the AW's.

It's a really noticeable difference when you fight their paragon versions.
Paragon Greater Dragon is far tougher than a paragon AW.
