An idea.

  1. It occured to me moments ago (so no it hasn't had a whole lot of thought!) that for a long time now we've had Provoke, Discord, Peace & Area Peace as the basic bard repetoir.

    Which got me thinking what about a possible Area Provoke and Area Discord. They would work in a similar way to how Area Peace is initiated, but have some restrictions to reign them in a bit. For example (and both would apply only in PvM):

    Area Provoke.
    Every 20 points in Provoke causes 1 pair of any valid targets in range to aggro on each other. At 120 Provoke this would be 6 pairs.

    After 5 seconds the aggro would end, the same way it does when a normal Provoke wears off, with some delayed spells/breaths/special abilities going off a few of these may resume fighting, can't really see a way around that, unless the break was made into a Peace type effect.

    Area Provoke would have a 10 second cooldown. (From previously initiating it, not it wearing off.)

    The more Provokes you're entitled to do the less success you would have, so for example at 120 skill although it would attempt to Provoke 6 pairs, your success chance would be 50% as effective as doing the pairs one at a time with direct Provoke. This would be the main balancing factor so that on high level spawns you couldn't just tie up the whole lot in one swoop you would get a lot of failures. Perhaps scaling back to as successful as direct Provoke at 40 skill.

    Failures would work the same as normal Provoke failures and aggro the monsters on you.

    Area Discord.
    This could pretty much work the same way, perhaps 6-12 targets at 120 skill, the more targets it affects the less success chance compared to direct Discord.

    After 10 seconds all effects wear off.

    10 second cooldown. 5 second cooldown if all attempts fail.

    Edit: Oops! Forgot to mention the effect would also be reduced, maybe half.

    I don't know if anything like this has been suggested before but it was just something I thought of and wanted to put out there to see what people thought.
     
  2. I think those would be a nice way for bards to be effective against masses of small creatures. Most other professions either have area damage spells like wither, essence of wind, hailstorm, chain lightning, etc. or area hit skills like whirlwind, or are allowed to equip weapons with hit area attack. With the ability to leech mana, these' skills are virtually unlimited. Bards have no such ability, and with the cool down timer are not effective at all against big loads of small creatures.

    area provoke would be sheer chaos ensued, i like it

    area disco (cant believe im going to say this) might be too powerful unless its lower than target disco (maybe 5-10% at 120?)

    Wow I think these are great ideas. Something that would have to be looked into is multiple bards attempting this. Would it be like it is now, the last success barding action overrules the others?
     
  5. Yeah, with Provokes they would be randomly selected viable/in range targets so it might use ones already being used it might not, you can't really limit that because it would be like letting one player have custody over the spawn.

    Discords would be blocked if they were already in Discord, but as the area versions wouldn't be persistant effects, that wouldn't block anything.

    Area provo really? Area discordance ...? Yes bards needed some love , but this sounds op a little plus who wants 6 failed targets chasing them ... not me, failed provo = aggro am I right? Use evs rising collosus or whirlwind if melee wither for necro , idk sounds like you want the easy button. You have a right to your ideas and i honor them, but i have a right to my opinion, and it sounds like a bad idea to me.
     
  7. In terms of a champion spawn, at 120 skill, and being 50% as effective as a direct Provoke I was thinking of it being maybe:-

    100% successful on level 1.
    75-90% successful on level 2.
    25-50% successful on level 3.
    10% successful on level 4.
    Ineffective on the champ. (So that it wouldn't just round up the remaining level 4 spawn to gank it.)

    Yes failed Provoke causes aggro, that was included as another balance, so that on the higher levels it just isn't worth the failure - this wouldn't replace the Provoke we have now it would be how Area Peace is to Peace. I proposed it with these balances so that it isn't an easy button, its a useful button, and applies mainly to low level spawn. Where at the moment the timers make it pretty difficult to utilize Provoke, I can't see them changing the timers (because that WOULD affect all spawn low and high), so this seemed like an alternative.

    Additionally, they wouldn't be continuous, they would be 5s, which is like 2-3 bites out of each other then they break.

    We've had Area Peace for a long time, and the way they've been regarding Provoke and Discord lately (all the Rouser title stuff and now the new abilities) they've been making it sound like it can enrage a group. It is kinda odd that you can Provoke a monster 10 tiles away without the monster 1 tile away hearing it.

    I'm not sure I really understand your stance that its both overpowered and failing all 6. What is it you dislike about it? The numbers? This idea? Or the whole concept of Prov/Disc having an area version similar to Peace's? (Of any kind, like not just this idea but any area idea.)

    Id like an area peace that works like honor or etheral voyage where monsters will ignore you for a set amount of time depending on your peacemake skill.

    some good ideas posted in here.

    there is so much that 'could' be added onto the barding skills that would make it rock.

    im just happy that we are seeing SOME changes come down the pipe.

    im also holding out hope that this wont be a one time thing and we will see a growth to the spell song book over time which could and should be some of the suggestions made in this thread.

    FireHorn which uses less ash based on LRC
    and Horn that does other damage, e.g. IceHorn

    This is not my idea but I found it can be useful (because horn does not require mana)
