The populace of Siege Perilous shard invites those who are jaded with their shard to come visit for a short 'holiday'.

A number of players are willing to open their homes to you and provide a little storage, choose your own 'landlord' (or landlady)
    http://vboards.stratics.com/uo-siege-perilous/236449-who-would-take-guest.html#post1921545

First I'll dispel a small misconception. Training on Siege after 70, under RoT is not hard unless you're the 'make a mage in a day' type.

at 70 skill you will get a gain in whatever skill you are training every 5 minutes, provided you are doing an activity that would give a gain. eg, taming - you don't have to follow snow leopards all round ice island, just tame one at the right time. Smithing? Tailoring? Don't waste thousands of resources trying for a gain, just make one item every 5 minutes. You can train multiple skills at once, there is not 'per day' limit on gains.

I will provide a 100% lrc barbed suit in your choice of style. It won't be all 70s, but I will be more than sufficient for a training character. Other basic equipment can be provided on request and dependent on your choice of character.

Petra, I seem to remember a ROT timer from when I played siege years and years ago. Was/is that something stratics hosted? and if so does it even still work?

I took a spin through my active accounts on Siege just yesterday. There is a caster on one of them. Stripped and deleted an absolutely ancient character, and made a new one for spell books.

My main account will reactivate tomorrow, I don't recall what that character is but I have a fair idea what I would want to run between a couple of accts. Won't be coming "full time" but I never played there enough to get the full flavor.

Some folks will be happy as I have no intention of making stealthers.

Not sure about a special one for RoT. Some of the other players might help if you ask on the shard board. I use this: BTT Software

    Good idea Petra.

Sometimes I think the Dev's should give ownership of the shard to the dedicated playerbase to make decisions as they see fit.

    King Kelmo I anyone?

I have a fully developed char there and I can't say enough how awesome Shalimar of New is. Should be everyone's first stop imho.

    Good Luck.

Used to be a program called Davina's GGS Timer, in which you could also setup custom timers. Don't know if it still works though.

Does it still scale the higher you go like every 15 minutes when you hit 80 and such? RoT is the only reason I dont play Siege. Even have a newbie char with an etheral horse and some cash transfered around the time AoS came out.

    Yes, it still scales.
Being able to train all your skills at once with no daily limit makes an incredible difference and a suit made by a legendary tailor with GM armslore is perfectly serviceable for a training character.
This pre-imbuing non-runic suit is just a bit unique though, so I'm rather proud of it. Perfect balance? [IMG]

Rate Over Time - UOGuide, the Ultima Online encyclopedia

Here's how I would rate the difficulty of training of some major skills compared to prodo. (obviously only comparing how hard it is to train manually, obviously the scripters who afk train on prodo shards can do 6x120 in a day...). Also discounting the fact that using a scroll of alacrity on siege can easily gain you 20.0 skill points if timed properly. (since the gains are guaranteed)

All crafting skills: FAR easier and cheaper on siege
All resource gathering skills: Significantly easier on siege, you can GM mining from 70 on one shovel.

Spell casting skills (magery, myst, necro, etc): not much different, with the guaranteed gains over 70 though you don't need a full LMC/lrc suit to do it quickly.

Animal taming: Somewhat easier on siege, still boring and takes forever but at least you gain every attempt.

Melee/Archery skills: Slightly harder, slows down a lot more as you approach gm, somewhat offset by the fact you're guaranteed to still gain on creatures 20 points below your skill.

Resisting spells: Much harder on siege, but only due to the fact that you can 120 it in a hour in new haven thanks to the addition of a house monsters cant enter, and monsters that only curse and don't use attack spells.... (that's a hard number to beat!)

Barding skills: roughly the same, takes slightly longer for the actual skills, but you use fewer instruments.

Stealing: Significantly easier on siege, due to gaining on failures, less moving around items for packy training, or just train off stealing from monsters/players.

Hiding/Stealth: Significantly harder than on prodo, since they're normally pretty quick to gain with passive stealthing.

Meditation/Focus: Significantly harder over 70 skill...well not so much harder as takes longer, as these skills would GM themselves in a hour naturally on most shards. I never bother actively training these anyways, I just let mine 120 on it's own while i did other stuff.

Dunno if i missed anything major, but overall I'd say most skills are actually easier to train on siege, with the exception of melee skills like tactics and swords and more passive skills like resist and med.

I will be preparing my room, and the house tomorrow. Just in case... The house is awesome and would suit any sea faring sort.

I would love to see a crew of fisherfolk, or even pirates :eyes: use this house. I could even redo the entire house if desired.

The room in my lonely Iantown pub would suit an individual or a couple. I would prefer the Sea Side house to be used by a crew of folk.

Both are well equiped and have teletiles to the Umbra Hub.

best thing to do if your serious about giving seige a try get hooked up wtiha guild that plays on your prime time and enjoy its different then the prodo shards its actually a blast been playin siege for at least 9 years now and still lovin it
ROT is alot easier then it once was there is no daily cap anymore yes there is still a timer between gains but no daily cap so if ya play you can gain points for as long as ya play instead of being done gaining in the first hour of game play

siege is a blast ,REDS, come check us out no tram kill everywhere how awesome is that

BLUES, they are just reds kill em back

No real central gathering point on siege, each guild/group/faction has their own preferences. The housing just southeast of umbra is actually a better bet to find people than luna, as that's where the abyss house teleporter is (and our guild house, we're one of the most currently active guilds on the shard)

As far as banks go, you wont EVER see banksitters here...people run in, bank, and go back out. You're far more likely to find someone in Blighted Grove or Hythloth level 4, or down in the abyss (primeval lich is popular), navery in the underworld is frequented also.

Despise is also really popular, due to it always being a rat spawn. You wont get many people saying their location in general chat as that's a GREAT way to get yourself killed.

I would advise joining a guild, for mostly pvm Gilfane is probably the biggest, for a more hybrid pvm/pvp Eye for an Eye, our guild The Outsiders which is primarily PK's, pirates, and thieves, and many others such as Citizens of Wispwood Shire, Guardians of Myth, and such. (these are the most active guilds i can think of, all of them i see players active regularly). Post your interest and what you do up on the siege boards and I'm sure you'll get interest. For starters you can join the NEW guild, which most guilds on the shard respect the tag and will help you out so long as you fly the "NEW" banner, it also comes with benefits such as free power scrolls, lrc suits and such if needed, etc... (it's in a way a shard effort guild, gets donations from all others to help new players)

Edit: oh, if you're looking for vendors, the majority are in Zento, the rest are around brit, minoc, and yew gates. there are SOME in luna but less commonly used due to horrific city design. (heck, i think right now there's a plot or two open in luna for houses)

Yep, a house fell two days ago. Had been cleaned before collapsing as they had only left potions. Still free plot last time I checked.

I'll have to chime in here.....

I've played Siege, enjoyed it, but a combination of 1) Less time with the Guildmates I've spent the last half decade playing with on Standard Prodo shards, and 2) I placed a house in Luna on Chessy and gave up my Siege house for it, made the decision that Siege was better for me as an, occasional thing not full time.

The honesty out of the way, I'd say give Siege a go, it's not horrible. Here is a few other Myths I hear people come up with, and a few other things to note...

    Myths
    1) Siege is not a PvP shard. At least not anymore than any other shard is a PvP shard. Siege's player driven economy would be wrecked if people flooded it simply for PvP to the point it became predominately PvP. Just like Prodo it needs Crafters, Tamers, Bards and everything else for the full experience on the server to be enjoyed. This might be especially true on Siege, in regards to crafters, you simply won't be buying a suit once then never replacing it.

    2) No one plays on Siege. This isn't true, well it is if you compare it to say Atlantic or Pacific. Siege has a low population, and I'd honestly say Siege probably makes Legends look like Atlantic. Some of this is due to the 1 character per account restriction. I'd almost say the attrition in population Siege has been going under has actually been beneficial to the shard, it's removed much of the riff raff that was there solely under the assumption that it was a "PvP Shard". You know the type I mean, the one's that give you grief if you don't PvP. That doesn't mean there's no room for PvP just that the playerbase on Siege is more like the "Core" community you find on other shards and less the people who just fade into the background, making it an ideal place to build up more player community.

    Some things to Consider

    1) You won't be able to have a house on Siege and another shard on the same account. It's possible to live well on Siege strictly out of a bank box however since you are limited to 1 character per account. If you like Siege then consider moving there, or if you have multiple accounts you can place a house with one, and co-own on both Siege and Prodo to have houses on both. However a house isn't strictly necessary, you don't need as much stuff since the inability to insure things makes most of the items Prodo Shards consider valuable pretty much worthless other than deco.

    2) Siege doesn't have EM's, they've gone through 4 already, one of them twice. Don't expect EM type events on Siege, though occasionally the one's on other severs hop over there for Holidays. If you are all about collecting EM event items and rares, Siege might not be the place for you.

    3) Gold isn't a free flowing commodity like on Prodo. That's not saying it's difficult to get gold, but you have to remember that everything costs more on Siege, be prepared to earn your keep so to speak. Siege is more difficult it's supposed to be more challenging, be prepared to sheer sheep, and collect cotton to make your bandages.

    4) Be careful of what you carry around on Siege. Got something you want to stick away for a rainy day? Bank it asap. Without insurance you can loose it at anytime, and Thieves aren't limited to Felucca on Siege, they can strike in Malas, Tokuno, Ilshenar, or Ter Mur. On the other hand maybe you'd like to come to Siege to either be a Thief, or to become a Detective and help bring them to justice.

Now I know there are a lot of negative things in this, along with some good things, but I don't believe in sugar coating things. Not one thing I've mentioned is to say don't give Siege a try, it honestly isn't a bad evil place. It's has more potential to be a vicious place mainly due to it's increased difficulty, and altered rule sets, something that in it's core foundation was intended. You have to earn your keep on Siege, it's not full of freebies, you either adapt to it's rules at which point it becomes fairly easy to play on or it weeds you out. Don't get frustrated or turn away from it a week in just because it seems more complicated or you got PK'ed by someone. Either you can rise up and tame Siege or let it tame you, those are the only two options.

Nexus, you are always welcome into my Siege homes, as would be nearly everyone else whom I would know, or have known, for ages on Chesapeake.

In regards to your #3 I made my very first 5k gp on Siege back in 2004 selling cloth bolts to those whom often buy resources, especially off of the newer poor folks whom try Siege.

One would have to get on Siege forum here on Stratics if new to Siege, GET on the Siege Stratics forum, and in game chat so people DO know you are there, are new or newer, poorer yet, and hawk your sheep wool or whatever and when folks know someone is newer they will help and buy stuff off of you, because someone would be newer there, be it ingots or granite, or cloth bolts, leather from common cows even.

And since folks can not buy cloth etc. off of the NPC's on Siege, those whom do not wish to fool with resources gathering DO have to buy it off of others on Siege. If they are red, well the npcs get even crabbier at them, refusing to fool with a red person for even more things. Some of your first best customer base as a newer poorer immigrant to Siege, WILL BE REDS !

I also made 20k one day, in a few seconds when a red person, whom could NOT buy a ship off an NPC, trusted ME new there, gave me a check to buy HIM a ship on Siege. I did so for him, he was right beside me so in theory had I banked HIS check he coulda killed me lol, but I took his check TO buy him the ship in all his redhuedness, and he gave me a 20k tip just for helpin HIM out cuz the npc sure did not want to sell him a ship cuz he was *red* !

I didn't really know him hardly at all, I took a risk he coulda just pkd me when we met up, he also took a risk giving a newer player blue hued me whom he barely knew his big check for a ship to buy for him, but it worked out great, for us both ! :)
    -------------------

TRUST is earned there, regardless of HUE. That is one of the best things one can EARN on a shard like Siege. More important than earning GP at first, ya begin all over again, as a simple new immigrant poorer, ya begin maybe just sellin cow hide leather to some one that may need it, via chat or the Siege forum, ya EARN your way, you earn your reputation, and in time, you find you are makin more gp on that shard cuz finally they know ya, trust ya, etc. etc.

Most of my chrs. play crafters, while so and so may pk me out there wherever, often times if they are needing whatever, ya find they do not pk ya in a * business transaction deal* if they need YOU atm like maybe giving them a RES. if your chr. can do that, it too becomes a way to *fit in* resing others that die, lots of death on Siege. :) In the end it is/becomes more merely FRIENDS doing business together, no matter your colors, your play styles etc. on Siege.
    -------------------------
If someone DOES kill your chr., say Hi ! :)
If someone DOES steal from your backpack, say HI ! :)

Those first earlier encounters may be and are precisely anyone's everyone's humbler beginnings anywhere on any shard, more so on Siege. That interaction repore is the same every where, to build a trust, or friendship, fun interactions, that build up over time; for yourself and others, on Siege Perilous. Then one day, one month or one year later, you find you fit in there, or belong on Siege, even more so, than ya ever thought, you would !

[Siege is NOT for everyone, nor is everyone cut out to stay or remain there.]

One of my dearest friends whom was from Chesapeake, did come to Siege to try, to survive there. He was a legendary tamer on Chesapeake. He began on Siege tryin to be a pvper. I told him:

YOU love being a tamer on Chessie, YOU ARE A TAMER, you should be one here on Siege, too.

Well he rethought that and began to do what he loved doing most in UO
    ...taming.

His experiences in UO were only Trammel.

There he was that one Siege morning, with his beautiful WWyrm in tow, riding his nightmare, when he was first attacked on Siege. HE DIED! Granted I giggled a lot sayin...You forgot to say...'FLUFFY ALL KILL'!

Ya had one pk attackin' you by surprise, but YOU had 2 fully trained up majestic pets that coulda fried him, in a nanno second... but ya got a surprise first attack sooo forgot to say FLUFFY ALL KILL ! :)

Sadly, he never came back, he went back to trammel chessie briefly, then he got out of UO for good; to play Star Wars.

Anyhow, he just could not quite get used to *being attacked* or surprise attacked, he sort of [just crumbled instead of thinking] that he had mega pets to protect him. He was more used to using em to protect him from *monsters* never got used to the fact he could use em, against real players attacking him, even with mega tamed pets in tow, that 'could have' protected his chr. as a tamer template on Siege.

But he did give Siege the ol' college TRY and for that I give him, a true born trammelite, much credit.

For someone as myself whom has been pkd in UO since 1998, it just is no biggie to me, being *attacked* by other players in UO, for myself over the UO yrs of playing, being attacked by another player, has been, always was and still is a comic *social occasion.* lol

But yes Siege may not BE for everyone, but if ya feel you DO wish to give Siege a try, then DO so. You may find you DO enjoy playin there on Siege.

And IF you would BE the tamer templater type, do not forget to say, [should ya 'need' to say so:]

    "Fluffy ALL KILL !"

    :lol::lol::mf_prop:

I went three times, I found one person who was willing to talk to me. Everybody else has been quite unhelpful and actually some were rude.

I spent about 10 hours in all... seeking someone...

Sorry if you've had a bad experience but thats just the minority rather than the majority. Not everyone ingame reads Stratics so won't necessarily know this.

As it has been said on a number of occasions people don't often stand around. Can't get anything done if you stand around hehe.

For anyone new to Siege, Turn on your GENERAL CHAT :) It'll save you alot of hassle.

Or just contact one of us at the Siege forum. I'm always happy to meet people in game or over ICQ (prefer in game).

What city or area were you in ?

I seen a newer player in Brit yesteday, a gargoyle chr. flappin her wings downtown there.

No one was in town (Brit atm) that I seen but her, and I was on my way to Serp. Hold and elsewhere, just bummin around.

But I did ask that person, to get into general game chat, & to get on Siege Stratics forum, read the sticky about guilds of Siege, esp. NEW guild etc. and also I mentioned that workin skills say in downtown Brit may be emptier, of running into folks, than going to Zento, or Yew, on Siege.

One might find more folks in Luna too, but them may oft be *thieves* hopin some one comes by for em, to try to pilfer their backpacks ! :)

so how does insurance work there, you only get to insure one item?

what one item do people keep most?

what about blessed items? like the virtue armor.

and do people run templates that don't require equipment? such as a thief, in theory, could be completely naked.

im with a great group of people on my home shard, but just curious.

I prefer playing a Crafter or Forager. What flavor Crafter or Forager does Siege need more of? And is tieing up 200 points in Hiding/Stealth a requirement for survival on Siege?

You get Siege Bless, which works the same as personal bless deeds on other shards.

Other than that, you can bless normal clothing without stats as normal.

Everything else can be looted pretty much. PvPers used factions and a unofficial return scheme was agreed, i.e. buybacks. PvPers would sell the stuff back, as most of it was faction items with persons name on it and they get no use from it. This can get tense at time when people become 'idiots' and don't give back but for the most it is a good principle.

Otherwise, people use normal imbued armour. You just have to be willing to lose what you own. But there is safety in numbers.

Anything that might be blessed on prodo shards won't be blessed here. So you use at you're own risk.

Event Spellbooks from a few years back are blessed. But normally spellbooks with stats won't be. These are for some reason an exception to the rule.

I usually bless my rarer items, like artifacts. But for PvM i don't carry much in the way of crazy stuff

Sweet, very cool(and small - 20k). Guess it doesn't work on a Mac? I'll be using it for cooking so I don't have to tie up a microwave, Thanks

Ahueyjnkxs, great talking with ya the other night. Siege tends to be more active in Central time zone. Most are out hunting (or bieng hunted),lots out fishing to i guess or doing spawns. So many different play styles here,im sure you will find a place to fit in.Hope you stay, make Siege be whatever ya wish it to be. Risk Vs. Reward my friend....

You shouldn't need Stealth or hiding at all really. Crafting and Gathering is pretty safe at the moment. So much land out there to mine in or lumberjack trees :)

Hiding can still be useful but if you do train it up I'd keep it stored on a Soulstone.

I've never bothered with hiding/stealth on my crafter, just toss on a cheap leather suit, wizards hat, and some arcane gear.

I now have two on Siege, one all Crafting, the other Crafting/Foraging. They'll be able to fend off low end monsters, thats about it, but they will be able to craft just about anything.

Question now is can I handle all the walking involved mining and logging. Didn't know how used to being able to recall around I was. :)

I wrote one for my own use as a RoT Timer a while back before the changes to RoT were done. If you ask nice I'll update it and port it to Mono :p

I sticky a terminal window over my game window and have this run

    sleep 8m && echo "now"

this is under bash but it probably will work on mac also

whenever it tells me now, I'm eligible for gain, go get my gain, then press up and enter to re-start the command.

Nexus: ever going to give siege a go again, even if only "part-time" ? Got plenty of room in my brit gate house if you need some lockdown space :) You'd feel right at home with a copy of the thieves code locked down on my front porch.

Actually I was on there earlier today, passed Petra some of my horded scrolls to pass on to new folks. At least scrolls I don't need. I've been thinking of popping in here and there from time to time.

Created a new character. Bought an official Molly Fyde suit and started training. I click too fast on character creation and got something I didnt want. So now I have to train all of em from zero lol.

heheh I did that. I originally started as just a mule for Terry, just for the 1k gold, so didn't bother with what skills I picked. Then I decided to stay. That's something in excess of 4 years ago :D

Not yet. I'm still deciding on whether I want to learn the new ruleset. NPCs are almost useless on Seige and the time spent traveling from a bank to mountains and back over and over is tedious. I'll stay with bankboxes for now and move a house from Chessie if I decide to settle down on Siege.

Unless I wind up with Siege being like my UO:Ren & AoS experiences in Fel, I'll likely spend a fair bit of time here. I suspect my pair will be fun to play once thier skills get near GM, if there are enough players to make things for.

I may need to drop some crafting skills and add combat ability to make gold with if not. NPCs won't buy anything. More to consider :)

I trained my crafter in Delucia and lived in the inn there for the first few weeks, being a guard zone it was safe to trail a packie round behind me when I mined.
