    A simple idea.

A shrine (or something) where reds or blues in Trammel or Felucca can go to toggle on Perma-death in exchange for an Unlimited Skill Cap (720 total cap not 120 per skill cap).

    (You can't toggle it off.)

    This is completely optional.

    Discuss.

edit: Cannot use Soul Stones. Crafting skills excluded.

So let me get this straight - in exchange for having to recreate the char from scratch once he dies you want the char to hav unlimited skill caps while alive.

(imagine a lot of swear words here) This would mean that players that run unattended, working skills against golems (as an example) would turn into Godly players until killed?

My only response can be 'HELL NO!! What are you thinking!?!?!'

What do you mean unlimited skill cap? Like going past 120? or 720?

Maybe they should try this first on SP. You know If they promise to get rid of the ROT and let players gain as fast as they can but the draw back would be Perma Death. Get rid of Bonded pets and Blessed items. Make it totally hardcore.

I know of this server that allows players to create perma death characters. You can do this at any time in their creation. I does not allow them any special powers and can be killed like any other player. I know a few people who play this way, just for the rush, but too many people didn't like the idea of losing the time they spent working the characters up.

*please note, I would have never played this type of server since it would be against the ToS...la

If there wasn't an overabundance of cheat programs and scripts available, this could work. It would be kinda like the jedi in swg :)

The reason this doesn't work is that someone would perma-die and then would just go script up their next char to 800+ skill pts.

Then again, if their entire suit drops each death, I guess it could work lol. I don't care who you are, everyone dies sometimes.

shoot, I wish I could change my vote. Between acquiring PS (all the 15's and below have presumeably be traded in for collection pts) and acquiring a new suit each death, I think a perma-death like this could work. The system would effectively force some of the cheaters to re-scroll, re-script and re-suit their entire char each time they die. If a PD char would then have his name hued a different color, people would know to focus on that char because there's actual loot behind the kill.

Upon further inspection, the characters that are never in fear of death (like crafters) bork the idea up (on production shards, at least). Otherwise, I think it would work. And yes, I think the suits should drop... it was their choice to go out in a blaze of glory.

I thought of this idea with the glory in mind... ignoring non-glory related problems.

(It always comes down to glory.)

Think of the confusion behind trying to control a character that's legendary tamer, mage, necro, spellweaver, dexer, etc.

Also, the stat restrictions on skills like parry would help.

The prices on items like +10 skill PS and lower-end stat PS would skyrocket.

perma-death chars would have to be restricted from using soulstones.

perma-death chars would still have to restrict the player from using that character slot for 7 days after char creation (to prevent various exploits)

I think this would be a really interesting system. I'd imagine I would be quite upset if my maxed out perma-death char died, though because of all the stuff you'd lose.

I think I'd make a PD char if this was put in game...

well I guess you could restrict them from learning crafting skills if that's a serious concern.

It would be funny if they allowed players to trap themselves with tinkering. consider this scenario. You and your friends finally kill that annoying PD char. His body explodes and kills everyone! lol

No skillcap? No. There are many ways to play that have no real risk of death where extra skillpoints would be advantageous.

I think having a way to toggle Perma-death on and off for characters, with no added benefit for choosing to have perma-death on, would be a nice addition to the game though.

Go to tram if you don't want RoT. Rot is great. It is great the way it is. I even thought it was great when I first started Siege and the timer was 20 min, 40 min, 1 hour. The only thing no RoT promotes is unattended macroing.

A lot of people voted Nay, but I have a feeling almost everyone would constantly reserve one character slot for a Perma-death character.

  27. It's an interesting idea, that could work, but a couple of tweaks are needed :

    1) Host this on a separate server / shard. Where ALL characters are perma-death and have unlimited skill points (capped at 120 per skill, no PS needed).

    2) No insurance.

    3) Fel ruleset only (including Malas, Ilshenar, Stygian Abyss, etc).

    4) Hit Points are doubled across the board (relative to a production shard).

Everyone would be a walking God, yet deathly mortal. (Hence, the new server / shard should be called, "Mortal Gods". With unlimited skill points, normally on a production shard, if you play your "mortal god" character well, you wouldn't die easily. But on this shard, where everyone is a tamer-ninja-samurai-scribemage-noxmage-tankmage-necromage-paladin-swordsman-poisoner-fencer-macer-spellweaver-bard-cook-tailor-tinker-detective-dismounter-etc-etc, gank squads become all the more deadly, which is why hit points must be doubled (at least!).

Interesting idea. If you edited your (or made a new) poll asking how many would make a character on such a shard, I bet the results would be dramatically different, from the results of your current poll.

I would... be against another shard.

The whole point, all things being equal, is "what if they weren't equal?"

It's all optional and the risk is proportional to the reward. (Or is it?)

Another shard is another idea for another poll for another day.

This would be totaly pointless, no matter how many skill points you have you still will have roughly 100-150 hitpoints. Meaning that allthough you may have some great skills, two or three v one you'll still die very quickly, so all those skill points lost just due to one gank? It wouldn't work at all.

I think I'm in favor of this idea.

With a couple of thousand skill points, you would become somewhat of an uber PVMer but still far from invulnerable. You would have enormous offensive ability but still a fairly limited defensive capacity.

Imagine what it would feel like to loose all those skills/scrolls.

In Fel you would be instantly ganked by a lmedium-sized group just because they can imagine what you're going feel like loosing all those skilld/scrolls.

Also I see no problem with SoulStones. It's not like you can transfer all your skills to SS the second before you die.

I don't see a problem with crafters either. You could make 1 crafter with every crafting skill. And am I the one who's had his 2 crafters killed a few times?

Related idea: Just to give it a little more flavor, this would be an interesting racial trait. Not to change the current human or elvish attributes, but to introduce a new race with. I've played exactly two of the single player Ultima games. I don't know if there are any races in Ultima lore that would fit with this idea. Of course there would be all the need prompts and warnings for newer players, so they don't lose all their hard work without intentionally choosing to.

Note: These characters would be good people to load with Cursed artifacts, current and future.

Yes, this is kind of a wonky idea, but it kind of works.

This should totally appeal to the Fel crowd. Isn't this the ultimate expression of risk vs reward?

Just think...instead of not permanently losing 5-6 well developed skills/scrolls with a single death, now you could permanently lose 10-20-30 or even 40 and 50 well developed skills/scrolls in a single death!
