This is the method I use, have not seen anyone mention it yet.
I use the spellweaving spell, etheral voyage. It lasts about 18 seconds and works like monster ignore. I have used it to tame several dragons.

And it lasts longer with focus right?

I believe it does last longer with focus.
This spell has a drawback though.
There is like a 5 minute wait between casts.

When I do this I cast the spell to self rez, then seek out my target, get some distance cast voyage and run up to tame.
If I dont get it I run off, hide. Log into my tailor for a few minutes and then log back to my tamer. I can keep kim right there and log with out delay cause seperate accounts.
