Hi there folks i recently really took notice of the fact that Everyone now wears a robe.Yes they have great mods and some prefer that look-but not everyone. It takes all the individuality away from our chars if they all look the same.I think a wonderfull alternative would be an NPC that converts any robe we choose into a tattoo with the same mods.Shouldnt be to tough to pull off and would really allow people to get creative with their looks more without suffering the loss of the cool mods everyone wants...Even a lil quest to get the tattoo artist npc to work on me would be fine by me ;)I just wondered what the other great folks of uo had to say on this subject. If interested the Anti Robe Movement could really use your help just speak up :) Come join the ARMy for individuality!--thx for your support!!-Keenan

I like the idea of magical tattoos. Sounds like fun. However, the conversion should only be possible with blessed robes because presumably tattoos couldn't be looted. Unless of course you made it very expensive.

    Sure they can.
Double click a dagger, target corpse.
May need to change that "T" rating back to an "M" though.

I had suggested tribal war paint on the pets when the dreaded hued pets was being discussed. I would not mind war paint or tattoos or such that would replace robes.
My human feels a bit "off" wearing an elvish robe (cloak of death).

  5. I think every item in game should be able to be "altered" to display any graphic for any item that fits in the same slot.

This way we could craft leather suits and make it look like plate, or chain, etc. I too am tired of everyone looking like clones and I am even more tired of giving up very nice items to maintain looks.

As long as the robe converts into another item of the same slot, there should be a way to alter the item into a like item. This would open up Samurai Empire clothing and other other garments. The same could be done for items in the cloak, and belt slots.

I figure this would be a great gold sink:

Any item you want converted into another graphic, 250k.

IE: You want HOTM to be a norse helm, it is turned into a norse helm. The norse helms has no properties(it is pretty much just a static visual thing, so no mage armor necessary to convert)

I think you would see people dropping a pretty penny.

One of the best ideas I've heard in a long time.

This really should go in the game. Would be SO much fun. Seeing people run around in unique looks again rather than just different colored robes and aprons would bring back some of UO's old fire.

Would be cool if you could pay to change the look of any item into any other item that fits the same slot. So if you want a dress instead of a robe, then just exchange the robe. They would still have exactly the same stats, just different graphics.

You could pay extra for artifact unique looks too.

Even if it just applied to clothing it would still be great. I'm not sure the difficulty of coding something like that, but it would be such a great addition.

I just don't see a downside to this.

the items should have some tag on them so people know it was 'transformed', cuts down on scamming people then.

but it's a fantastic idea, gold sink, character customizing again... What's not to love about it?

How would you scam with it? I doubt people would care if a crimson was a full apron or half apron.

it would all depend on how the item was transformed, but I could see some people trying to pass a transformed item off as an uber rare or something. Hell, everytime they introduce being able to craft an item that was once a true rare, I know people always get scammed.

I've LONG said that if gargoyles are smart enough to be able to "alter" items for themselves then the elves should know how to do the same thing... and humans should be able to learn to do the same thing...

and then if we can unravel things and break them down then we should be able to alter an item into any other item transferring the properties with it... so I could change my dead deer hat into a circlet...

Now one thing though.... you should NOT be able to change something like the HOTM into a helm.... but any other similar item..... as in a straw hat...

They must be of the same "class".... so you can't alter an item from somthing NON-Medable into something Medable..... ...

But same slot item into same slot item.... of the same "class" so plate to woodland would be fine.... but you couldn't change plate to say leaf... But a menu similar to the imbuing menu or a crafting menu... bringing up "acceptable" choices would be fine....

  20. Mage armor should be removed completely regardless it was a bad addition to the game.

Metal armor should either have a significant benefit over leather armor or all armor should be medable with no penalties (ie. high str requirements of plate) and cosmetic only.

The current system doesn't make sense.

Pet dyes were so vehemently opposed by the masses yet this idea is so similar, and yet everyone is perfectly fine with it?

Why should I support item alteration when so many (not naming specific people) were opposed to pet dyes?

  22. Because pet dyes add colors not currently available to animals to the game and most will be ugly as sin.

Armor alteration does not allow anything that cannot currently be dyed to be dyed or appear different then whats already available. It just allows you to make say.. hat of the magi look like a bone helm. It doesn't allow hot pink, bright yellow, orange, etc horses/dragons.

  23. maroite

    maroite Guest

Pet dyes add colors already in the game that are not currently available for certain animals.

Armor alteration adds the ability to change the appearance of an item to another item which is currently available in game, but not for said item.

Its exactly the same. Also, many tamers didn't want hot pink, orange, bright yellow as options.

They wanted common colors which would fit with the animal in question.

I actually oppose this. I don't feel the a HOTM should be able to become other items. Its an artifact, and thus has a unique look (wizard hat) for a reason. You can already dye it for a unique look and natural dyes already gave you more options.

PS - Some of the dyes for clothing are god aweful, but no one was against putting those in.

so pretty much everyone loves the robe conversion to tattoo idea then ? :)i think u all have other great ideas too but realistically if we start small and with an easy to do and totally un gamebreaking idea like the robe thing...who knows what it could snowball into after that is successfull ;)Thx for all the imput though folks keep em comming!:)-Keenan Spokeman of the Anti Robe Movement-Join our ARMy :)

Robes cost incurance, and are possibly lootable.

    Tattooes aren't.

    rolleyes:

Why not just ask to change robes into shirts? Or dresses? or Kilts instead?

Not to mention, what would stop someone from having a tattoo and a robe for double stats?

The work behind this idea seems more than what you are thinking...

I am annoyed about the robe rewards, too. But I never used them and I never felt disadvantaged in any way. The magical robes aren't really that powerful.

However, there are other clothing slots available, and I'd like to see useful items for them as well (for example pants, shirts, belts). The last reward was a magic cloak, which was the first step away from robes.

Pretty sure that's more of a step away from quivers... :p

A turn in system would be awesome though... I doubt they'll ever have items that default to dresses, ect.

The half apron and full apron use different slots and can be worn together. The idea is to swap graphics with items that occupy the same place on the paperdoll.

I've always felt cosmetic item conversion was a good idea and I have suggested it many times myself since AoS. Also race-only clothing is silly, especially when crafted. If I want to make a leaf tunic to fit a human, why not allow it? Clearly since the hat/circlet revert there is no lingering technical issue with sharing between elves and humans. They only made things more convoluted with dingbats. "Oh these new things are only for gargoyles. But wait, all of your stuff can be used by them too."

Regarding robes themselves, I tend to either not wear them or only don them when leaving town.

    I like this idea!

I don't know about the tattoo idea. I think if you made tattoos, you couldn't really ever have a unique tattoo because it's nearly impossible to really create your own. So many graphics would have to be made for that.

I think it's better to switch the type of clothing it is but stay in the same catagory and clothing slot.

Ex. Crimson Cinture half apron becomes a full apron. Hooded Leaf Cloak Replica becomes a fancy dress. So on and so forth if you wish to exchange them, but it should definitely be impossible to switch non medable to medable and all that jazz.

My thoughts on robes and all the modified equipment post-AoS being so important in the game?

    Easily fixed.

Presumably, tattoo designs would give different status benefits depending on the design (e.g., a dragon tattoo would give 10% fire resist, an eagle tattoo would give 10% air resist, and so on). The designs would be specialised and each would only be available as the reward for a certain quest from a single NPC.

However, a system would be introduced wherein if a human (or a monster, there's no reason social monsters like orcs and lizardmen couldn't have tribal tattoos or similar) was killed, their killer could then copy down their tattoo designs and use the designs themselves. Maybe looting like this could take, say, 80 Inscription.

They could then create tattoo deeds and sell them on vendors. So it would be a reason either for people to do the quest, or PvP.

I'm not saying I'm supporting this idea (although I have nothing against it) but too many ideas get rejected as unworkable when they're really not.

    Sorry, totally not for this.

Since 2003, I've watched as people around me become uglier and uglier; first different hues from enhanced armour as well as a totally nonsense mix of leather and bone armour, mixes of neon colours and black. AoS clothing, tokuno dyes, neon weapons..

For the love of the virtues NO! Keep that covered up! Robes keep those unsightly messes of neons and odd colours/armour looks covered up.

The problem you seem to have is with magic properties on robes. It is those same magical properties that makes armour sets so mismatched and ugly.

I'm all for this!! GREAT Idea :) There are a few robes out there that I would love to wear on some of my chars but I think the robes look bulky and ugly.. make my chars look fat! ;p

I normally throw on a plain dress or the vet reward dress with the added phys resist. Thought about this before and always believed that any new cool robe that came out should always be available in the dress form as well! I was thinking something along the lines of a Clothing Alteration Kit that let you alter any item to one that fit the same slot. Maybe a vet reward or a new tailor/smith bod reward. But I think the gold sink idea using tattoos is fine, as long as the tat only converts an item to fit the same spot.

Could make it so that you can use insurance on the tattoo or a clothing bless deed if the item being converted was able to be blessed this way.

Anyway, l would be all for this! *Joins the anti-robe movement*

Funny, I always get a warm glow inside when I see some guy with neon purple hair and a beard, dressed in some glowing vomit coloured drag, tearing up the pvp scene. I think, "That right there, is UO." And then I try to kill him...

Honestly, I would never dress my character that way myself. I like looking a bit sophisticated, but I would never want those screaming fashion disasters to leave the game. They add flavour, and remind me not to take myself, or my gaming, too seriously.

Hehe, I understand that. Sometimes you want to kill people just for their poor choice of colors. ;) I personally prefer dirty colors.

  43. just convert it to a sash the sits the opposite way of the current says. You could wear 2. Converted and regular. Would create an X on your armour if you wore both.

Way to actually create cool looking armor without losing mods would be great... Aahh the days when armor really didn't matter that much and you could actually focus on the looks too.

  45. siyeng0

    siyeng0 Guest

I think they should make it so that armour progressively gets more pimped-out the more it's enhanced. So, store-bought leather is just the normal model, but as more mods are added, it gains engraved runes and jewelled sections and spiky bits, until finally it only has to be dyed some super-saturated colour or another and suddenly it's a work of modern art. Add half a dozen different pieces of this sort of armour together, dye each one a fabulous colour that clashes with all the rest, and you too can run around looking like a Final Fantasy villain.

Okay, it'd look terrible, but it would kick the game from mere clashing neon badness into spectacular hilarious Twilight-level awfulness. Then they could introduce pet dyes, announce a shard-wide event, and as they watched the parade of technicolour rainbow players with their psychedelic dragons, look upon the fruit of their labours and laugh.

Edit: btw, guy I quoted, I'm not mocking you with this reply. It's just... I've spent a little too long in Luna and oh god my eyes

  46. Lets get back to killin the robe...
Set up a NPC in NEW MAGINCIA who for a modest fee (250k) changes your conjuror's garb, robe of power, etc- into a mod bearing piece of clothing of another type that would STILL occupy the robe slot. If it was blessed on the robe, the new item will be blessed. If not, it would be lootable or insurable, etc. Not sure what slot sashes occupy, but all of my robes would be converted to sashes(etc) within ten minutes of this going live...

In the old days, mages wore robes and warriors wore armor.
Now just about everybody wears robes AND armor.
Can't tell a mage from a swordsman anymore...

A change like that would be enough to bring me back to uo. I haven't played in a year or two, except for the 7day "come back to uo" trials. UO used to be all about original thinking. Open world gaming, customizable housing and clothing....and now, not so much. UO was the granddaddy of RP gaming. Now it's like an old guy trying to be kool by hanging out with its inbred offspring WoW. UO is not WoW and making it so that everyone is equal to everyone else.... eh.

Being able to look like an individual again would go a long way to restoring some of the dignity. Just my .02 cents.

Well, to be honest, tatoos would be a pretty big investment in time and effort on the part of the devs. Not to mention technically challenging, especially in the classic client.
