Any way to 'magnify' UO?

I guess I'm getting old but I tend to strain trying to play UO these days, I dont have that big CRT monitor with low resolution anymore! I think my monitor now is slightly smaller screen size yet more than double the pixels!

I play windowed mode, havent even tried full screen but I cant do without the quick access to browser while playing... and seeing my email in the background...

anything I can do aside from increasing my windows resolution setting for everything (something i'd really not want to do). just a way to magnify the UO window by itself?

You can zoom in on the enhanced client. I have never been able to find any way to increase the 2d version though, and have been looking for a while. I have the same issue you do, but can't bring myself to play the enhanced client lol.

Ditto. I love 2d too much to switch, so I just live with it.

no way i know either, in 2d. If 2dis really like mesanna says, one of their claims to fame, seems they could give expandable options. My understanding is the actual play window is larger than what 2d'rs can see since mobs that can't be seen CAN see you. Maybe send something to the Twitter Guy.

You can always use the magnifier tool under Windows. It's not the greatest solution but it's easy to use. I just got done playing with it after I read your post and can't find a way to "hotkey" it though.

    Edit: Magnifier keyboard shortcuts

Windows logo key + Plus Sign or Minus Sign: Zoom in or out
Ctrl + Alt + Spacebar: Preview the desktop in full-screen mode
    Ctrl + Alt + F: Switch to full-screen mode
Ctrl + Alt + L: Switch to lens mode
Ctrl + Alt + D: Switch to docked mode
    Ctrl + Alt + I: Invert colors
Ctrl + Alt + arrow keys: Pan in the direction of the arrow keys
Ctrl + Alt + R: Resize the lens
Windows logo key + Esc: Exit Magnifier

If you want to stay with 2D like me, then I suggest you go back to good ole CRT. They are pretty easy to find and actually the picture is better if you get a trinitron monitor that is. Dell used them in the 21 inch ones, yeah they weigh a lot but worth it and if you really want a great monitor try and get a sony GDM FW900 probably the best monitor ever made.

if u hit Alt+Enter it will go full screen and be bigger. you can toggle it that way so if u need to get to the browser. you can try that to see if it helps you

In the classic client you have the option for GamePlayWindowSize.
I believe it is in your options somewhere but also can be modified by the uo.cfg file.
What is your set at now? 640x480 or 800x600?

    ...

Enhanced Client... larger gameplay window (as big as you want it) and Zoom feature (as well as scaling features for the UI).

They really need to add more game window resolutions to the 2D client, its suppose to be still supported but its still based on 2000 standard game resolutions.

I mean 2012 for goodness sake, alot of players now have 20in+ monitors, and no to the enhanced client, tried it .. really tried it but that text omg .. i couldnt see anything on my screen cos it was covered in large blocky words, at least with the 2D client i can see the game.

You can always use the HTML cable and hook it up to the Big screen tv...... makes great for playing if you got a cheering croud behind u. hehe No really, I do understand the need . My stroke has made my eye sight a bit off at times and focusing long at the small monitor hurts.

Otherwise, with a modern flat screen, what should be the monitor size, tech specs (refresh speed ?) and resolution of play that would best fit visual quality ?

depends on the monitor. you should always use the recommended resolution. I could explain why but the easy answer is to read the manual or look online for the official specifications for your model.

CRT's are different and will support different resolutions without degradation of quality but they are big and bulky and are not energy efficient. many graphic designers and IT professionals will have a CRT on their bench simply because it really is the best quality but remember modern displays keep getting better and better so the difference is becoming trivial.

that said there are good CRT's and bad ones. most are junk. fortunately the good ones are available because competent recyclers know better and they keep them.

if you want a good CRT call your local electronics recycler. I bet they will have one but you better be prepared w/ the exact model you want.

What goldenpower said, modern monitors have a designed(native) resolution, crts do not they also have 0 response time, mind you its not really important in a game like UO but for first person shooters it can make a big difference.

Try the Enhanced Client with Pinco`s mod. Will give you zoom features along with the ability to resize any of the text to a bigger or different font. Plus a slue of other improvements that make the game a whole lot easier and fun to play.

I used the CC exclusively and all I'd do is change the monitor resolution to 1024x768 then back when done. It does work pretty well on 21" flatscreens.
