Anyone know if there's a Ranked listing of Monster loot backpacks anywhere?

Ages ago I found some info listing the quality of the higher end Monster "Loot backpacks" etc.. and was wondering if anyone had a source that's current....

I'd like to see a Ranked list consisting of all the obvious ones..

    Harrower
    Peerless
    Champ bosses
    Named Mosnters
Then the regular high end monsters like ancient lich / worm, Greater drags / Balrons etc...

Anyway.... Just wondering if anyone how there has such a list of what's better than what.. and by that I mean the # of properties & percentage chance of them dropping and how many items etc.. the specifics to how the loot amount / quality is determined....

    THX

There used to be a list somewhere with the intensity of loot per monster. Though I have no idea where it is now. Maybe someone still has it better yet a updated version of it.

If there was such a list, at least a complete one, it would make some of the deepest rooted flaws in this game so apparent that they might open some eyes and get them fixed.

For example, create a new character and do the New Haven skill quests. the rewards from them will become your main equipment. And after that, when your character is about the right strength to tackle Ogres and Ettins for ideal gains, you have to kill paragon blood elems or peerless bosses to get loot that is better than what you already have.

    Am I the only one?

Well the Devs already stated that the way that luck effects loot drops isn't currently working correctly, but I still want to know what's better than what. If that kinda info was available I'm sure alot of people would appreciate it heh....

I'm not a lot of help here sorry, but I'm reasonably sure they stated it would base from "provided fame level" if you're inquiring about stealing from their "backpacks." It stuck in my memory mainly because we all know of the history of trouble with luck, and consequently it seemed a current systemic "workaround" to those issues/ concerns. I didn't sample enough creatures to provide any real feedback ref stealing- apologies again. If you're not addressing stealing, I've never seen a comparative list of levels of loot, with creature introduction and a few upgrades that have occurred at varying points over the years, and use of luck by all of us on various templates, it seems way lost in the weeds and doubtfull that anyone has a clear view.

I see a noticeable bump in decent items from solo'ing a champ swapping to full luck suit just before it drops; instead of 1-2 useful items I'd say I get 1-7 lootable pieces to take to the bank. Granted it's different for everyone though luck isn't completley broken, it works- just as not as well as intended.

Heartwood Strongbox quests give better than average loot too.

For you guys that have no idea what vexxed is talking about...
Years ago one of the devs explained the dropping system in detail.
There are different levels/ranks for drops and the dev listed the rank somewhere.

It was based on a prefix.
For example for a lich it drops a "rich" backpack
A lich lord dropped a "very rich" backpack
A doom boss would drop "filthy rich" back pack

A corpse with loot was called "a backpack"
Number and intensity is rated as normal, rich, very rich, and so on...

It was somewhat complicated and many of you newcomer probably have no clue what we are talking about. I too would love to see the list again (yes there USED TO BE a list for those less informed) the list that listed all major mobs and their backpack ratings.

I believe you are looking for this chart

It is a bit dated and doesn't include all the newest monsters - but you get the idea.

You can see why you sometimes get crap on a blood ele for example. You can get a magic item with 1-4 magic props with intensity 0 to 50%.

They should do away with the 'low level' items and only give the highest item available from the monster if it is rolled. That would save SO much crap loot that is generated anymore.

I like that idea. Only the good items actually drop into the "backpack" which means you can hunt things far more efficiently.

When I kill balrons in Ilsh for fame and karma sometimes, I never bother to check the corpse for items because the next one spawns quickly. Yes, I can fight the next one while scanning the various items that are in the corpse, but it slows me down and can isn't much fun particularlty when its 99% junk.

If I was scanning the corpse looking at just one item that I knew had a decent chance of being something good, even if something only dropped every 10 or 15 kills, I would find this alot more rewarding than the current system.

I've been thinking something similar for a while...it takes so much time and so much mouse dragging to loot things, it definitely raises the tedium level a bit in farming. On my sampire, it takes me twice as long to loot miasma as it does to kill it.

Yup. I'd much rather kill 5 bloods and only one has an item vs every one has 3-4 items that are crap and I have to keep scanning them.

It should be more exciting to kill and *find* a good item vs continually scanning through loads of crap trying to find the one item with decent mods and then tossing it anyways cause its a spear.

Hunting as it is tends to be way too tedious with little excitement/interest.

One man's trash is another man's treasure. I drag all the metal stuff off orc brutes and smelt it on site. Come visit the moon!

  18. Those whole loot tables are going to be addressed as that it whats causing the problems with luck.

Sya you have 1-5items. Luck rolls on how many of those items you get.
Then its got to roll on what type of item you get
Say each item has 1-5mods. Luck rolls on each item for each mod to see if you hit that mod.
Then has to roll to see what type of mod you hit.
Then say the intensity values...it rolls on each mod seperatly for the intensity.

The odds of beating every one of the rolls are just astronomical!!

I do agree that getting items of 1%hci 2DI is just insanly pointless, nowadays even mongbats should be throwing down 5%HCI 25DI type items...The amount of stupidly good runic stuff is insane.

Start handing out val runic type armour/weapons as loot...watch the prices of runic hammers/arties drop bringin the economy back into line(rares will still be astronomical i reckon because there are no true gold sinks.)

(P.S. im not a programmer but thats how i assume it works)

  19. That's about how EA assumed it worked, but it's got problems. Using KR, you can see gaps between pack1 and pack 2, gold and other items between. Pack1 mods almost always are higher than pack2 mods. Not sure why this happens, but if it were truly random rolls deciding the mod intensities you should not see any difference. I think the luck code is a huge spaghetti nest.

Can't recall the site - it had loot tagged as rich, super-rich or something like that. I might have a copy salted away at home from when I played. I'll see and if I can find it, pass it on.

Welp, no listing saved. I may have scrapped it in one of my cleanups. Sorry.

As I recall the list stopped with Doom. The site went off the air last year or perhaps late '07.
