http://ultimacodex.com/2013/05/how-to-get-ultima-forever-on-your-non-canadian-ios-device/ I don't have anything that uses iOS to try this with. From what I've read, there's already German language support.

And have any of you Canadians lurking out there actually installed Ultima Forever and started playing it yet? What do you think? Have you joined the official UFE forums yet? Any good info there yet you want to pass along? Anyone watched the YouTube Dev Diary video for UFE software engineer Ken Hartsook?

Sounds like the release of UFE for the rest of the world will probably happen in conjunction with the E3 conference coming up in June. There's a rumor that UFE is slated to win some kind of an award. Maybe Jeff will pop in here one of these days and tell us what's up with UFE and the prognosis for the whole Ultima franchise these days.

They should drop development of UFE and focus on UO imho.

    ...

I was all for U4E until they made it iOS only (I'm not an Apple brand person (I'll be nice here and not use another word the mods might not like)). Of course right after that announcement dropped, the announcement for SotA hit, so that's where I'm watching and waiting.

From what I understand, Mythic plans to eventually roll out Ultima Forever for Android devices and the PC. The E3 conference runs June 11-13th, so there might be some more definitive news around then regarding release dates for those platforms.

From what I've heard from watching several videos of people like Paul Barnett, Kate Flack, and Carrie Gouskos talking about Ultima Forever, it really sounds like Mythic is hoping to bring out additional Ultima titles. They say things like, "Every generation needs an Ultima game." This fits right in with the first line you read these days when you go to the mythicentertainment.com website: "Leading the charge into the core RPG market, we're putting strong IPs on mobile in new and exciting ways."

So with Mythic calling Ultima Forever the "spiritual successor" of Ultima 4, it makes me wonder which other Ultima titles they've been eyeing with the idea of turning it into another mobile game. I also wonder at times if there may not be something in the works to make UO playable on mobile devices.

Remember the interview last September with Beau Hindmann and the dev team? Beau followed that up with this interesting article: http://massively.joystiq.com/2012/0...vices-might-breathe-new-life-into-older-mmos/

I really don't know what to think at this point. The reviews/articles I've read about Ultima Forever say the map is huge, with lots of area to explore. There are dungeons where you can go with your friends for quick 5-15 minute encounters. Who's to say whether or not Ultima Forever isn't just a first step to figuring out how to make "real" MMOs playable on multiple platforms? You just never really know.

I don't think they have anything to do with each other, other than having the name ultima in the title.

Did the whole us/Canada swap..been playing for about 3-3 1/2 hours..it's fun..kinda. Not much immersion to where you feel "part" of the world, I can't see myself making a hobby out of it, or even paying money for keys, seeing as how it's built primarily as a dungeon crawl game. Which is fine and it'll serve it's purpose, but the dungeon different set of monsters can become stale after a few hours of gameplay..it is however very aesthetic and an excellent rework of the U:4 game. I'd pay for it, if it were pay to play, but everything costs keys. Only been into it a few hours I could see the keys becoming quite vital as you progress in game and probably could have already spent $10-$20 easily buying keys from the store..

I've encountered a few glitches when in party though, from random crashes to super slow connection

    My rates so far
    Replay ability: 7
    Graphics: 9
    Music: 8
    Story: 6-7
Bugs: Minimal(when it does crash and you reopen it, it instantly knows where you were and starts off right there)
Side note: wish monsters would stop attacking during a d/c or crash I've died every time :(
    Total Score: 7-8

All in all..could be fun on PC..but the small iPhone/iPad screen just doesn't do it justice..

Scroll down and look at the big EA and MYTHIC logos. They need to drop UFE and put those resources in UO.

What I'm saying is that it's not like its taking away from UO. They are completely different formats. And I don't see why they would want to do that anyway.

You are comparing two different products ( even though related in a way) with totally two different formats. That is why Jeff is Producer over all Ultima and Mesana is UO producer which works under/with Jeff..

    Tina,
I think rumor has it it will be released in June to the US market. We are almost to June btw lol. If not there is always a hack./crack for such things in todays world :)

    It is lol.

It's related to UO but not UO. Then SoTa gets a plug in the topics.

Tina asked a valid question though and it's a Ultima Productio from Mythic which controls and produces UO.

Stratics doesn't seem to have an Ultima Forever forum yet, at least one that I was able to find. And last August, Jeff Skalski posted this letter where he talks about both games: http://www.uo.com/article/Letter-Franchise-Producer .

One of the last lines in Jeff's letter was: "Lastly, for those interested in seeing a UO2. No surprise announcements on that today, but what I will say by everyone continuing to support UO and Ultima Forever this is the kind of ammunition I need to convince the high level execs that the market is ready for more Ultima."

So where else do you want people to post if they want to do as Jeff suggested and support UO and Ultima Forever?

I would think Jeff (the Ultima Franchise Producer), Carrie Gouskos (the Ultima Forever Producer), and Kate Flack (Lead Developer) would be very interested in reading feedback about Ultima Forever from people who are known to be dedicated UO fans and, more than likely, were dedicated fans of the old Ultima games. If nothing else, it may tell them what could be tweaked to make UFE even more appealing to ex-UO players. And if they can be successful getting some of those people to try UFE and get hooked into it, they might just decide to give UO another try.

It might be also be interesting to them to know whether the people who play UO are even interested in playing a UO-themed game on a mobile device. Are most of us "gadget freaks" who'd at least give it a try or are we mostly old farts who are too attached to our PCs to even think about it?

Last year, EA spun off a play-for-free multiplayer arena game for Warhammer Online (it was cancelled earlier this year though), so who's to say whether they might be considering doing something similar for UO, i.e., taking some part of UO and setting it up so you can play just that part of the game on your phone? If they can't do that, maybe they might at least be considering putting character and guild search in a format you can access through a mobile device. That would at least be a start towards "making it more modern."

If UO is going to survive another 15 years, I think it very likely has to morph into something that has more appeal for people who are younger than the average current or ex-UO player. A lot of people complain about the graphics being outdated and the KR and EC clients being a flop. So, if you were scratching your head trying to figure out how to make UO both more visually appealing (fix the graphics) and make it something that gadget-freaks (which includes most of our kids and grandkids) can easily get their hands on, I think you would be seriously considering how to stick it on mobile devices that keep getting ever more powerful. So, yeah, that might be why it's worthwhile at this point for us to pay attention to Ultima Forever and consider giving it a try. It's a free-to-play game, so in theory, it shouldn't cost you a cent to give it a try once it rolls out on a platform you can access. (I can't wait for it to come out for Android devices and hopefully playable on a Kindle Fire. However, I hear the download size is humongous. Will have to delete some of the apps my grandkids use on my Kindle!)

Last year, EA spun off a play-for-free multiplayer arena game for Warhammer Online (it was cancelled earlier this year though), so who's to say whether they might be considering doing something similar for UO, i.e., taking some part of UO and setting it up so you can play just that part of the game on your phone or tablet? Maybe something that is quest-related. If they can't do that, maybe they might at least be considering putting character and guild search in a format you can access through a mobile device. That would at least be a start towards "making it more modern."
Anyway, I hope people do start at least checking into Ultima Forever and providing some educated feedback about it. If you don't want to do it here, UFE has a Facebook page and they're on Twitter. There is also an official forum for it, but I'm not sure if you actually have to have a UFE account to sign up and post there. It's one thing to say, "I don't even want to try it because I hate EA" or "I don't want to even try it because it's not UO." But it would be so much more helpful to people like Jeff (who is also in charge of UO!) to say, "Hey, I tried it and I don't like ....." or "I looked into and read up about it and I'm turned off by ....." or "I read about it and would try it if ...." This is a good fan-built place to find out more about UFE: http://forever.ultimacodex.com/ . The Twitter feed for UFE is here: https://twitter.com/UltimaForever . You don't need to have a Twitter account to read what's there. Released UFE music: https://soundcloud.com/ultima-forever .

Don't just dismiss it out of hand, folks. I strongly suspect that if Ultima Forever's launch is a failure, there WILL be consequences for UO and they won't be good ones. So, be open-minded, pay attention to Ultima Forever, read up about it, try it if and when it becomes available, and start talking about it in an educated fashion so the people that want the feedback pay attention to what you say and just don't dismiss it because you have no clue what you're talking about and/or you're just an old UO curmudgeon.

Before you become victims yourself of the nightmares you paint on the wall:

They stated allready that and why other platforms will follow
They stated allready that they will announce the release date on the E3

EA's E3 press conference is sheduled for June 10th, 2013, 1 PM PDT. Check http://www.ea.com/e3 for live cam.

Besides that, a wiki has allready been started at ultimacodex: http://wiki.ultimacodex.com/forever/Main_Page .

    side notice:
Have you clicked on the Mythic logo and scrolled down?

So with clear heart and curious mind let me proclaim:

May this nice & easy dooropener for the Ultima Universe bring in alot new fans and may we welcome some of them in Ultima Online.

I'm not sure how UO forever will bring anyone to UO..the graphics are 1/8th caliber..you're playing from 15years behind with no real solid storyline anymore(it's all over the place)..but I guess we could hope, hope that it leads to UO2 where we can import our toons over
