Archery in PvP

    Not played at all till recently after many years. When I left it was the dryad bows with super fast non stop machine gun shooting. It's even worse now it seems.

    I like magery, but when you can't cast a single spell, or even get close to someone on my axer before you die...what's the point?

    It's like having a mage that does not need to stop to cast...the damage I take with full 70 resist is a joke, I am dead in as little as 3 hits! Throw in a mortal strike in between and you're finished in seconds.

    Only way I have won is being creative and using conditional circumstances...e.g. 40 minax guards to take them down.

    I doubt anything will get changed and as usual it will take EA yeeeeearrrss to even spot there is an issue.

    Another joke template is teh bola tamers. So and so swings a bola at you. Nightmare/stupids Samuarai Empire pet chases u. You are ded.

    1v1, what do you do against that?

    what template are you running? how much defense chance increase? Defensive skill must be matched at 120 or use a mage weapon to match you. Max dci of 45 or 70 to match the -25 from hit lower defense

    Pets
    Be smart field the pet away from you and the owner. Wall of stone can't be cast through. Hiding Gets the pet off of you. Seperate the pet from the owner and the owner just lost 300 skill. All you need is a good 15 seconds without the pet.
    Now pushing into a fortification say the shadowlord base is hard. As soon as you get near the sigils they say chaos and run away into the teleporter heal up and come out fully loaded. So there you have to use other tactics.

    Enough with the DCI/Skill argument...
    Last I played UO and PvP'd Archers WTFPWND everyone.
    And Tamer/Archers, well, there is no word to describe the sheer amount of breaking and shaking they cause... literally.

    Yeah separate them from their pet- as if there's not more than a couple of ways to retrieve the pet safely. Not to mention I have failed to see a single Archer/Tamer losing their cool when you try to lure the pet.

    Well, I'm being killed in about 5 seconds with max dci and 120 wrestle vs archers, less than that if there is more than one. Cast a spell? Maybe if I time it but by that time they've vanished, bandaged, and returned and killed me, plus all my mates and most of the town guards...

    Archer dmg with a good bow is no joke. They can kill you in 3 hits which aint a lie. You pretty much have to just survive and hope them to whiff. Only thing you can do to protect yourself is load up DCI and pick up parry skill and get 80dex.

    A well prepared archer (or dexer really) knowing when to run can NOT be killed by a mage no matter how good you are. It's just the way it is now. Only times when dexers die to mages 1v1 is when they get cocky and didnt leave the screen when they got low.

    Bola tamer isnt nearly as stupid as dismount archer tamer with dread warhorse... well get use to it.

    Also if you get a leet mage weapon you can use the new gimp evasion mage template, no you will rarely get to kill people but you rarely get killed also. (unless its a dismount ultra gank).

    Whee, taking 40-43 dmg + hitspell from archers using prepatch quivers and doing concussion blow and my lowest res is 61..

    Lets see, for years people had vanq kats, and val plate while archers had no di bows and studded.
    Then came Age of Stupidity, and runics made godly kryss's and Kats,
    Godly plate, and archers still got studded(along with dex penalty), and gm bows or crap bows from low end mobs while mages were scoring weapons they could cast while holding, no need for regs anymore, wearing plate mail and still casting, even med'ding in plate.

    Big item drop events of recent times, run by drop an EV get tomarties right in your pack and ye aint even in the dang area anymore, while the archer is gettin his brains beat out in the tokuno champ area?
    People scream nerf this for pvp, it doesnt bother pvm. Well it does.
    As for prepatch quivers that hold 4k arrows, they still run dry.
    Are there charges on yer freakin LRC suit?
    So for the first time in my time on stratics(check my record ) I am saying STFU mage boys.

    did you just say archers were underpowered?

    And that archers didn't have vanq bows, and couldn't wear a full suit of invulnerable studded?

    An archer should NEVER die in PvM, EVER. Sorry. That's just how it is. If you have been sober and died in PvM playing an archer, then this game is not for you.

    Never did i say underpowered.
    The point was that so many gripe posts about archery never look at history, the skill and weapon nerfs etc.

    And i didnt 'just say'. Way to troll month old posts.

    You tell me another template than can hit for 40's while never stopping.

    That can hit for 80's in one hit?

    That can hit for 40's and stop you healing for 7seconds??

    That can dismount(and hit for 40's)you while riding a dreadmare??

    Umm...Anything else underpowered about them?? I think i covered it.

    The only thing ive found for those silly powered archers is to mana vamp and double blood oath them(may have to start in protection and dump it if they hang about after the second oath/heal)

    O.K. so....I had a long post to post...but decided against upsetting everyone with the truth...so i will only comment that the quivers of rage being able to do damage outside of the damage cap is the only over powering archers have. With that being said everything else relies on the RNG, so that's where the problem lies, archers have the same chance to hit as any other class, so a mage would still get killed that quickly by someone with a melee weapon, since mages have to stand still to cast and all a melee has to do is run up to them, same as an archer really. I am not a fan of moving shot tho, as it does give them something no other class can do, the ability to move while hitting and not being hit, except by other archers, but then I feel it should just have the limitations it is suppose to have, such as lower chance to hit (again the RGN so this might be completely working and the RGN just always hits, due to its awesome ability to be "random") and lower damage from those shots, this might be acceptable...but then my archer does go downhill, then again I don't use that ability much. on the other hand my mage and melee chars would be better off. Hmm....went a bit off there, anyway I am going to end it there since I have gone off topic a little there.

    Or if you are a Mage limit yourself to cross healing as everyone goes around trying to kill each other be a Medic hehe.What a life eh?

    You're wrong cloak, archers do not have the same chance to hit as a melee dexer. The ability to fire at range without any drawback in comparison to melee is the kicker. A mage can dodge a melee fighter, you can't dodge an archer except by going off screen. An archer is like a melee fighter... that can swing his ornate axe 8 tiles away.

    Show me where you gathered this information from? the chance to hit for an archer is still going to be based on your archery vs defense skill, which is the same as any melee vs defensive skill, if you have 120 archery and a mage has 120 wrestling you have a 50% chance to hit, its the same as a dexxer, I am not sure where you were trying to state me as being wrong is but fact is fact and the math is the same for an archer as it is with a dexxer, sure a dexxer has to be closer to you, but the physical chance to hit is the same roll of the die far as the RNG is concerned. If you are trying to make an argument outside of my statement then I am not wrong, you just changed the perception. Sure a mage can run from a dexxer and not be hit unless with in 1 tile, but they cant stop to heal or they will be hit, more or less the same against an archer except they get to roll the die while running 8 tiles behind you.
