    Nothing --- I hope!.

And yet. And yet. The names of Caesar's assassins are etched deep in the annals of infamy. Their names are forever synonymous with treachery and yet our new 'King' is named for one. This may just be unfortunate but it does cause me some twinges of unease.

Further twinges are caused by the recent proclamation 'the Royal Council in unanimous and glorious unity, has elected from amongst their noble selves'

What Royal Council? the last time I saw the Council it was their corpses around a table in Brit Castle. So all bar one (two?) of the Council appointed by Lord British to run the Kingdom were dead.

Where did this new Council come from?, did they just materialise from the void?. Were the ghosts of the dead council visited in the Underworld to obtain their nominations?.

I think not, corpses do not vote, their only role is to appeal mutely for vengeance. So we appear to be left with a Council consisting of one member, this being so it is not difficult to reach a unanimous decision.

Did our new 'King' elect himself?. Maybe so, and maybe as the only member left he has the right to do so. Time may tell us that however it was done the decision was correct.

All I know is that I will be watching My Lord Casca very closely indeed!.

I said this last night to a friend. I also said that on the subject of governance, I'm with the late, great, Douglas Adams.

"… one of the major problems with governing people is that of whom you get to do it; or rather of who manages to get people to let them do it to them. To summarize: it is a well-known fact that those people must want to rule people are, ipso facto, those least suited to do it. To summarize the summary; anyone who is capable of getting themselves made President should on no account be allowed to do the job. To summarize the summary of the summary: people are a problem."

I haven't managed to make it to an event as yet (rl, it's getting in the way again!), although I'll try my hardest. But, from what I've heard, I'm deeply distrustful of this new 'king' and his motives. Very deeply distrustful.

The flow of information is artificially increased, within UO. Most people wouldn't know even half the information we know, and considering the setting is based around a semi-realised civilisation, you have to consider that death exists outside of resurrection.

What I'm getting at is that we there's not enough -known- information, to form a conclusion.
Yes, we know. But in the context of the story, a lot of what we know is unknown.

Also, if the consequence for treason was something like character deletion (an equivalent to exection), would you all be so quick to denounce him?

False king or not, he holds all the cards ;)

I made this thread shortly after the ascension to the throne of 'King' Casca. Events later proved my misgivings to have foundation, the slight smell of fish to become substantial and our false 'King' ultimately paid the price for his ambition.

Now we once again have occasion to wonder about a name. Our new, would be saviour of the people (allegedly), is named Koba. A little known name here but a well known pseudonym in another realm. A psudonym for possibly the greatest mass-murderer ever known, a tyrant, an ethnic cleanser without equal. As I have said in an earlier post I shall watch this particular gentleman with great interest.
