I would just like to ask that is be able to make a bunch of new chars and being ran through both event end rewards intended? I mean a person can already make 300+k points per account easy. Counting xshard using existing chars on other shards to get the spring cleaning tickets, It totally goes against the point of having a turnin? I know there are alot of people out there that have turned in tons of items to obtain some decent amount of points and how this event is just giving unending amount of tickets to any character type totally undermines that.

Couldn't you guys put in an character age check of maybe 30 days?

I mean to get dig up the box of goodies you "HAVE" to complete the prior part of the quest. For the final reward part of the quest, you don't have to do anything.... you just have to go there and either talk to a npc or kill a npc. That just doesn't make much sense to me.

"The avalanche has already started. It is too late for the pebbles to vote."

I understand your concern, but at this point after the event being up for 72 hours (I may have that number wrong), those who were going to take advantage have already done so. Most likely this part of this storyline will end before Friday, so people won't be "encouraged" to do another cycle of spring pointing.

In the future, maybe the events should be once per account or once per shard. I think the 30 day old thing won't work since most x-shard gift getters know how to keep lots of low level 30-day-old characters on each and every shard.

It's not that easy to get looting rights. I tried chain casting fireball with my rookie mage alt and failed every time I tried out of four attempts to get looting rights before realizing I had better things to do.

You have way too much time on your hands if you are sitting there wondering if another players is getting 25,000 turn in points x amount of times. Now, Im wondering if you only went once per account? If not, aren't you beating your own argument?
I really don't care if someone went and got 25,000 points 100 times. It doesn't affect the game and if he did it legal, what's the point in worrying about it. And I am sure the dev's (Jeremy) have more important things to worry about than if someone went in and got turn in points.
I bet if they gave everyone a check for 1mil gps someone would complain about something.

    Are you serious?

These Rewards should have been once per account...PERIOD!

There has been rampant exploitation of this event. The turn in points more than doubled on most shards before the weekend ended. From Friday to Sunday...the points doubled...get it?

The value of the turn in items since the event is basically nil. Virtually everyone has at least 1 of everything they want.

I normally don't care what other players do as it does not affect me but there is without a doubt exploitation going on that there is no question. You can call it 'legal' but anyone with half a brain knows there is something not right here.

Dev team should have pulled the plug on the event monday morning..it's become a total sham imo.

You have xshard points 250k per account. And to top of it off you have people creating new accounts collecting points and then cancelling their credit cards.

    Don't see anything wrong still?

Personally I don't think they should have given points this way. That being said, since they have what's the problem?

I have only done the quests with two of my character's so far (out of several accounts) but I have enough points to get what I want anyway, and I don't begrudge anyone else getting the items they want.

I know, I know, a lot of these people are getting the points to pick rewards to sell. But so what? Them selling items doesn't cost me anything, unless I decide to buy, then they make them cheaper!

The only way, this makes any difference to anyone, is if they are afraid that their goods won't be woth as much. Big Deal! Get over it, it's a game! I came up with over 3 million points by cleaning out my Keeps and my Castle, so I will probably have more of these items than most people, but if someone wants to put in the effort to run newby untrained charcter's through this event and cross shard to get a lot more points than me, who cares? It won't effect the items that I'm getting for myself.

This game has always had power-gamers and always will. Some may call it cheating, I say they just put into the game, the effort they want, to get the results they want. More poer to them as long as it doesn't effect my gameplay!

Let's just give all items to all people while we're at it. Let Socialism and Communism reign supreme in Sosaria!

    Let equality reign supreme!

Let's put Crimson Cintures as part of start up for new character as it will be very beneficial but won't harm anyone else.

This sounds most fun and exciting...when can we begin? I'm sure fun will be had by all.

I'm off to use the my credit card to start up a few more accounts that I'll be cancelling after I collect my 250k points.

How about we just a create a hotkey for DUPING instead of me having to go through the character creation process because this could be a little time consuming.

My Duping won't affect you because you already have all the items you want after cleaning up your Keeps and Castles.

    Cheers!

It is easy to get looting rights on any type of char as long as there are 4-5 other people killing it at the same time. A char with no skills trained can get looting rights just by chain tossing G exp pots.

Spoken like a true conservative elitest. Congrats.

This is a game. The items can be enjoyed by anyone and everyone who wishes to put in the time and effort to get them. They will not be bought for hundreds of mills on your Luna vendor. Your tears.....taste like chicken.

oh my, for one i am very glad they did this, i didn't turn in all the things i hold valuable to me so don't have a lot of points to use. x sharding isn't really worth it..
yes i have max characters on each account on every shard for holiday trading. will i use any of them for point's , lol not likly, none would be able to survive the quest's without help.

hrmm but hey i do need points so if you want , i'll take yours on my shard and you can help me on your shard :)

It takes a bit of work to have every character do both parts of the quest. That being said, the reward is so much higher than anything else I could do to get points. I can do about 50 plague beast cores an hour (25k points), or I can have 4 newbie characters do either part of the event (100k points). This particular event made points easier to get, and many people took advantage. I won't lie; I took advantage of it. It isn't socialism for people to take advantage of a good thing or to do what is most profitable.

There is a difference between these items and cinctures or other artifacts. The cloaks are decent, but not game breaking. Most of the spring cleaning items are decorations, and even the armor sets aren't that great. A few extra luck ring sets aren't going to be tearing up pvp or pvm. I don't see any major long term problems because the dev team made an event once per character instead of once per account. Maybe once per account would make sense for the future though for any items like points that can be gathered and used to buy other items.

  13. packrat

    packrat Guest

Yes I am serious. Did you only use one character to do the event? Don't tell a little lie now... Your nose might grow a little. And I said, as long as they did it legal I have no problem with it. The items that they have to offer right now are not worth crying over. And the last I checked there were no crimsons on the list. So that argument is dead.
I guess the suit you were selling for 64 million wont be worth as much, so what? I have seen a bunch of armor sets going for 60+ million. To me that is more of a scam than someone doing the event.
I think the event was fun, and I saw a lot of people joining in to help and figure out the puzzle. I give the devs 5 stars.
And another thing. Have you thought about someone that has just started playing uo and has nothing to turn in? This is one way they can get a few points to turn in and something to keep them interested in the game.

I completely understand your point of putting a minimum age requirement on events... if I recall correctly this was a dilema during the Magincia invasion also... people running in with "Young" status and grabbing all the goodies whilst everyone else had to deal with the spawn... but...

There is also the portion of the population that may not have had that big of a collection to clean-up... if they want to spend the time and energy to get those points that is how they are choosing to play the game... it is a game... the clean-up was fun... soon the event will end and the items will never be seen again (possibly) so why not have a few more floating around on the shards?

    Either way... Have Fun!!!

OMG whinning..... My goodness.... so someone is more resourcefull than you.... so what?....... Big deal..... I have 8 accounts and I've done the quests probably 20 times....... I could do them 20 more times.... but I'm kinda tired of it. Heck I haven't even gotten my junk together to turn in since they started the 3rd phaze.... I really don't know why your complaining.... If they have the time and energy to do it more power to them..... Yes it's kinda nuts that a "Young" player can run right through most that stuff...... and get the quest much easier..... that's for certain.... but certainly does nothing for them skill wise..... I know I was VERY proud of myself for being able to successfully navigate that place and get all the way to the end on several of my characters without getting totally obliterated.

Yesterday I saw a couple of chars with names like "Asdf" and "qwerty" running towards the quest reward. It is always sad, that these kind of rewards are so easy to exploit. Makes them less special. It is even more sad that there always seem to be players exploiting these flaws to an extreme extent.

I came, I saw, I felt bad, I stuck to the rules, I ran thru a healer, died and rezzed my chars the other side.

Then, I saw -Help, Im stuck, teee heeee poooouuuf, gone to Brit.

I didnt worry, hey he was dead, he couldnt get a scroll to drop,....could he......

So, I tried, and wow, I got a 'You have item in your backpack' EVEN THOUGH IM DEAD.

I then use Help/Stuck, and magicaly Im in Brit, to rezz at healers amble up the stairs in the warriors guild, and get my 25k points.

So, now I came , I saw, I joined in, hell . why should I be left out....

Dead men getting rewards, well, imho this is a BUG, and ERROR, and AN over sight, but as I say, sorry, I did it clean on one account, it took me 4 hrs, I did it dead on another account, it took me 30 mins to get 7 x 25k......

I was one who handed in over 2.5 million worth of points, and I have now got a further 1.2 million from my several PAID Accounts........

Make hay whilst the sun shines, its not a crime, its criminal, its a not a bug, its a .........

    2 things

First ...the prison npc does not even need any item to be given to him...u simply say help and he gives u a scroll to hand to Elrich back at Britain....Alas i doubt u need do any if the middle quest...just simply start it and finish it???

Second who the hell would pay 10m for a xshard token to transfer at most 7 chars worth of tokens...=350k tokens if u do the quest fully 7 times...

    What about???

Making the artefacts, crimsons, minor artefacts, runics, bods and power and stat scrolls... account bonded.
(each item could be individually discussed)

This would end cheating in a flash... nothing to sell, nothing to cheat for... nothing to make a profit with.

It would make life harder for folk... in the begining yes... mid/long term it would make folk hunt a bit more...

    and above all... mid/long term...
    - all players that script for val hammers, barbed kits, fletching kits... would stop doing it.
    - all guilds that cheat to control felluca would stop doing it...
    - all sites that sell those items promoting cheating/scripting would vanish...

I am sure that 90% of the players would protest against such a step. I personally could live with such a change, but then again I'm neither artifact trader nor BOD runner.

I fear that with such a change being put in place, the cheaters will just find another method to exploit the game.

As for the quest: I would have made visiting every quest station obligatory in order to get a reward. It is just too stupid seeing crafters running down Wisp Dungeon, saying a password an gathering their cloak. Makes the whole quest reward a frace.

With scripting skill trainers, scripting miners/lumberjacks, vendors with 10+ high runics, and all of the other serious problems..

You are worried that people might DELETE characters and make new ones to get an extra 50k points on each? :bored:

    You're joking right?

If I saw someone in a ski mask sneaking into the back of a bank, I might be concerned.
But if I see someone in a ski mask sneaking into the landfill.......

We're talking about DECO items, not PvP gear!

Suits - A GM tailor can craft better in a few spined kits, which don't even require Exceptional BODs to get.

Jewlery - Good for +luck on a PvM template that doesn't use +skill jewels. Otherwise it too is decorative.

The only thing truly valuable are the alacrity scrolls, but 15 minutes of faster skill gains... not unbalancing IMO - or even effective to be honest.
Besides, if someone is Deleting a skilled character to make newbies to get points to speed gains, they might want to have their medications checked.

its not that hard to complete these quests, they can be done dead and melisa can be killed with some explotion potions which you can find cheap on any shard.

each character can get 50k points and each character can be deleted for a new character which doubles that to 100k points per character slot per account and theres 25 xferable servers (i think).

    so thats 100k points
    5 characters
    25 shards

    =12,500,000 points per account
now add in extra accounts... its not a small problem

The biggest problem is that you do not need to do any part of the quest AT ALL to get the 25k reward points, in the rescuing of Casca. You only need to log a character in, go to spirit gate, *you can die at any time on your way and just stay as a ghost* even before entering the fortress, head inside, run through to the end using the passwords, which you can speak while you're DEAD, say 'help' when you get to the end, also while you're DEAD, get your note/scroll, help out, get rezzed and go to Ulrich.

I did the whole quest from start to finish with a few friends helping, and it took hours to figure it all out, then I marked a runebook for my runelibrary I run and an instruction book to help those not able to spend the hours doing it from scratch, however, having done it ONCE that way, and finding out that you didn't need to bother doing any of it to get the reward, then my other chars did it the easy way. I already had enough points from hand ins for the stuff I wanted, so these extra points were just a bonus.

The problem is an event design fault, if the devs set it up this way then I don't believe you can criticize players for using it. Casca should of required an item to be given to him, and no part of the quest should have been 'doable' unless the parts before it were completed, as per a quest chain in heartwood etc. You should not be able to pass forward through passworded doors when you are dead, or not be able to 'speak' when DEAD to action them to be able to pass. Nor should you be able to get the reward while DEAD.

Maybe they didn't realise the fault, but that is what it is ....... a design fault.

As for the Melissa part of the quest, you still need to do damage, and get in there, so at least you need to do 'something' to earn your cloak and points.

I donated well over 5 mil points worth of my 'items' prior to this quest, and since the event began have been out daily killing things to earn points, fishing, doing quests etc etc, now those who decide to create 'new unpaid for dummy accounts' to get points basically get a free ride to get points. I guess that is the biggest let down, that they need to donate zip or even have a paid up account to earn 175,000 points on this part of the quest and an additional 175,000 points if they run them through Melissa as well. However, I don't blame people for taking advantage of something if it is set up to be abused like it was, people will always take advantage.

I often wonder if the devs think about 'ok how will this be exploited' if we run it like this? They know that if anything is available to be had for no effort, that it will happen, surely they could see this would be the outcome. It took less than a day before I was told by someone the 'easy' way.

It was a great quest to do, good story, and lots of fun figuring it out, with just a few 'checks' in place, like not being able to progress a step til the one before was done, and requiring an item (with a timer attached like the poison sacs) to be passed on each time to 'action' the next bit would have solved a lot of this.

However, I am still having fun with it, still getting points killing things, so that I can have a forest of yukkas !!! And the Melissa part is good being able to pick up some peerless regs, and the chance of a crimson, or other arti, even after the cloak and points have been awarded on your first 'kill' per char.

With a bit of 'tweaking' by the Devs next time with a bit of thought as to how people will 'use' the system, maybe one day we will have an event without the abuse. Still, given the lack of anything different we've had for ages, this whole spring cleaning has been a refreshing change of pace, and all in all has been fun.

You have all far too much time in your hands. I currently fail to find the time to do the quest even a single time.
Much RL work to do, also vacation to follow begining next week, which will get me offline to much.

I actually like the fact that NEW players (yes there are a few of them around) can get up to 300K points for some things that they may want. Not to mention the new items that can be turned in from old things that get hunted. I dont know what the beef is with the OP. I dont see anything stopping you from doing what everyone else has been doing... deleting a char, and doing it again. By the way, the new players that we have helped out do this entire quest, thought it was a blast and love the fact that with somewhat newb skills even they got 50K points. If one could see the smile on their face through the monitor im sure that the glow would be there.

So for the OP... stop whining and just delete your own chars to recreate and get more points.

I agree with you completely, it is just those opening 'new' trial accounts to run through 'young' chars, without so much as a months payment on them that I think is abuse. Any legitimate chars on paid for accounts, be they just deleted and created again I don't have a problem with, you can only delete and recreate a char 'once' in a given time frame (7 days?), and it is unlikely people will delete any of their regularly played chars, just the odd spare ones, and those with multi paid accounts if they want to go to the hassle of it all, up to them.

The doors been closed, but the horse had already bolted.

You have to be alive to get the scroll from Casca now, otherwise you get the message " You cannot help someone else if YOU'RE dead! ".

Eh, let 'em rack up some points, I say.

It doesn't affect anyone but those who may've sought to profit from a monopoly on points (undermining that type of market stranglehold is a good thing imo). The turn-in rewards weren't meant to be rare or valuable, as such, just a motivation to clean out those 50 trammel castles of crap you've been sitting on since forever. They did that job well; myself I freed up around 2000 lockdowns. I wasn't even an avid collector of crap, just a bit loathe to clean UO-house properly (I can do housework irl for free, thanks :p).

At least the quest-monkeys aren't out farming PBL cores or clockworks by the packload.. those and the other farm-ables seem to be at odds with the spring clean idea; that of reducing clutter. I did some of this myself, but now with the quest rewards I've no real inclination to farm additional trash. I have a comfortable amount of points that has allowed me to get all the items I've wanted. I could crank out some dummy accounts but I have all I want, more than I need surely, and I'm not interested in squeezing Melissa for any more.

I can't see a real problem with people skipping through the quests to get the goodies, either. It doesn't stop other people from enjoying the full quests if that's their idea of fun. There are those who will never, ever, engage in the fiction on the level one, as an RPer or game developer, would like to see. Can't force them to like it, so no sense in forcing them to do it. Ask anyone who's strictly into PvP how much they enjoy doing Doom, strongboxes, or barbed kits in order to properly equip themselves. Ask any true crafter, not a mule, how relevant peerless bosses are to the trade professions. Same basic argument.

I can't, no matter which way it's sliced, see this as something to get upset over.

  35. It wouldn't matter then either. I ran both my crafters through every step of both stages of the quest, including having them both assist in the fight against Melissa. The quest chain in it's entirety is extremely easy.

I was able to get looting rights on a mage that was only a few hours old and had never done any training. It took two tries, but I was able to it on the second try, and that was without exp pots, which I have read are an easy way to get looting rights. I just kept casting mind blast over and over.

Its not about deleting chars that I am worried about, it the fact that both quest you can basically skip to the end part without any work. Just about everyone have chars made on other shards and it won't be hard to work out a deal where another person would run all "holiday chars" on another shard through both quests and vice versa. Then they just trade the tickets to each other on perspective shard. The amount of points that can be done even without deleting chars can be up to the 10s of millions easy.

The amount of time doing this compare to farming for points for turnin items is staggering which is the issue I'm trying to get across. Someone farms for months to get the points and then this event comes along and someone not putting in the work can pretty much get MORE points in a really small fraction of the time in comparison.

    THATS TRUE!!!

BUT YOU STILL DONT HAVE TO DO ANY PART OF THE QUEST!!! BAR THE END BIT TO GET THE 25K TICKET...

AN EVENT LIKE THIS SHOULD HAVE BEEN STRUCTURED THUS U HAD TO DO EACH BIT IN ORDER ,HANDING SOMETHING IN EACH TIME TO GET TO THE NEXT BIT...AND FINALLY THE LAST BIT!!!!!

just take any of your chars straight to ethy fortress and try keep alive or get ressed in the final room to claim ya prize

Just like you said it is so easy to get the ethy fort quest done its pretty much ********. Also for the wisp dungeon quest, all you really need is g exp and that quest is easy as hell too. The lack of foresight on this event on including spring cleaning tickets in such a large sum proves again that the focus group done nothing in the matter......

Big Deal! This affects you how?

The only way this could affect you in any manner is if you were planning on selling the rewards. I say, so what? Why should you have your potential market protected, FOR GOD SAKES Let people earn there own pixel crap and not have to buy it from the power gamers and farmers JUST ONCE!

As stated in another post I have never sold a single points or bought for points with the exception of buying out vendors for turnin points and that only amounted to less 300k worth. I farmed all the points which took months to acquire. Imagine that you have spent that much time working hard to obtain the items you want and other people can obtain the same items for wayyyy less time just because of this one event. I could careless if they just made the items easy to get in the first place but they made the point value so high and the points for turnin items so low!!! Don't bs me about how you wouldn't care if you spend so much time and then they just made it so the amount of points that can be farmed in months can now be gotten in 1 week!

I totally agree with this. I don't fault anyone for taking full advantage of their points you'd have to be an idiot not to. I've maxxed out all my accounts and I was probably one of the first guys on my shard to do it.

But it never should have been allowed to begin with and even now that the horse is outta of the barn nothing is being done. This latest fix with the ambassodor is meaningless.

I'll continue to take full advantage as will everyone else but I'll also be the first to say that it's a total sham. They've ruined the spring clean up and taken what magic there was out of it.

I don't have a problem with AFK macroing. I don't have a problem with people scripting. I do have a problem with DUPING and people can say whatever they want but that's exactly what is going on. Points are being DUPED and a blind eye is being turned by the Dev team.

If UO is "hard work" for you, you're playing the wrong game. :wall:

You're speaking as if the exact same opportunities (Fortress, Melissa) aren't available to you, that somehow you've been cheated out of what's rightfully yours. Go ahead and run the quests on all your chars, get the points you so painfully worked for, and claim the rewards you want, and be happy. It's not a contest, so quit worrying about the other guy.

They're giving you more points for next to nothing, I would think if you'd jump at the chance so you wouldn't have to do more "hard work". It's a game, after all, not a job.

Basically they've catered to complaints that have cropped up before.. "I can't get turn-in rewards as I responsibly kept my clutter to a minimum. Why are you rewarding pack rats?".. "When will us newer/weaker folk be able to compete with pets/sampires for the event rewards? The bosses are always so hard". I think they've adequately addressed those issues while eliminating (or casting a harsh light on) the ugly greed that some players exhibit.

It doesn't happen often, that I agree with someone as completely as I agree with what Fink is saying.

On the negative side of this thread, I'm seeing 2 groups of people.
1.) Folk who want to sell their things, and are smarting under the "competition" of others being able to get their own rewards.
2.) Folk who are bitter, that their hoarding doesn't net them a monopoly on rewards.
In the woodwork, there's probably folk who bought items in bulk, from player vendors, and ended up not getting such a great deal in light of the quests.

But, those points of view are very exclusive. I'd call them selfish, but that's often taken as negative.
Simply, what I mean to say is that if things were as these people wish, the system would be exclusive. Yet another piece of content, which is mostly inaccessible to the average player.

Exclusive content will do nothing but embitter the newer players.
Embitter them enough, and they'll stop playing. Veterans aren't the only ones who can rage-quit.
As the event stands, more or less, allows new players to participate. It also allows casual players to participate, and doesn't actually ruin the game, despite dramatic claims to the contrary.
This is one of the most inclusive events I've seen in UO, and if I had a hat, it would be off to the devs.

Honestly I could care less how many points anyone else is racking up......this effects me How???? Really, this doesn't effect me in the least... and if I REALLY wanted to..... I have 7 char slots on each account 8 accounts that's 50k a character basicly, so I could have 2.8million points.... is that right? Yes 2.8 million points just from doing these two quests and since i made a rune book and all it takes me all of 30 min to do them per character..... and since I don't have to do the whole thing..... I can basicly get done in 20 min... that's with waiting for Melissa to spawn at least once.... 2 times if I can't get it the first time.....

Honestly I don't know what your whining about...... and I seriously doubt I'm gonna take the time to go through the quest all 56 times.

That doesn't count the 100's of brightly colored eggs I have the zillions of pumpkins.... maps, and hordes of arties, mini arties, and everything else I have turned in or have yet to turn in..... and your whining because someone feels the need to do this as a ghost...... *yawn* if someone wants to spend their entire day or the next 10 days doing this again and again and again... more power to them hope they have fun. And what's totally crazy..... 3 years from now those same folk will be selling full sets of that special armour for 8million or 20 million gold and some fool will pay that much and then 6 months later.... UO will turn on the turn ins again and that poor fool will realize they could have gotten the suit just by turning in the junk they already own....... and to top it off..... 6 months after that some one else will pay 50 mill for the same suit thinking he got a deal only to have EA sell the full sets for 29.95 off their website....... hows that.

So your complaining about something that you yourself have taken full advantage of. Hypocrite. Just like a conservative elitist. Sure it's rather dirty to see the farmers on dummy accounts farming like mad, but all that means is these items will be WORTHLESS. Just like they would be anyway, since its just a game and everything in it is in reality...worthless.

I like the fact they won't (hopefully) be on Luna vendors for millions of gold. I like the fact these things will be COMMON. That means the elitists (like you find in Luna price gouging everything) will not profit from this. And that makes me tingle in my happy places.

The fact people complain about things becoming common just tells me they will not be able to profit from their OWN EXPLOITATION of certain systems. Goody.

I could see your point until this part. Point values were a bit devalued. If I run a script that gets me millions of gold or thousands of valorite ingots, that's better than running through a few extra characters through this quest? Calling scripting ok, but calling this misuse of a quest a dupe? That's a flawed point of view.

I've said I did this quest a few more times. If I had believed getting these points were a dupe or a cheat, I wouldn't have done it. You believed it was a dupe, and you still did it. You've basically said "I am a cheater by my own strict definition of cheating." While attacking those who followed your lead?

I went through the quest completely with a lot of characters because I wanted a few extra chests for events down the line. I've gone through the quest in part because I wanted an extra bloody scroll or two. I've gotten a few extra points, but the funny thing is, I'm still going to finish cleaning out my house so I have room. Having 40 SOS bottles won't mean as much to me as having no SOS bottles and a reason to collect them again. Same with maps and power crystals and extra recipes and such. The intention was to get rid of some junk and get a few deco and other items. The magic of the beehive is still there, it just means there will be a few more pots of honey.
