Is a sampire still the best bet for someone hoping to give the new dungeon a shot?
yes with the right slayers
I find a sampire to be quite good, as long as they are properly equipped! It is all I have used, as having read the challenges faced by Tamers and Mages, I figured it would be the most effective.
They do work well.
Bards do very well also. There are a few things that you can't provo against each other but you can provo stuff onto them.
What is the necessary slayer down there?
An elemental slayer with mana leech and armor ignore is the best all overall weapon for shame. For unbound energy vortex I use an air elemental slayer war axe with 81% mana leech. The air elemental slayer also works for the wind elementals. I don't mess with the evil mages on my sampire because if you life leech them it damages you and I don't have magic resist.
Elemental, Repond and of course mage. The gazers don't have one that I can think of. The elemental will be the biggest thing that you need.
I find it depends on what area's you are going into. I use a tamer/warrior build to farm gazers on level 4 (No aggro threat and can pump out some serious DPS). Sampires work well when you have to deal with areas that have potential aggro issues. Magic Resist is a boon and you may want to consider swapping anatomy out for that.
so what kind of template is a 'sampire' and what is the required equipment? sorry for such a noob question... most of the time that I play UO it is crafting/trading
I use an ai spam sampire to tank and a 120 disco/music/provo bard with 85 taming/lore and 5 trained frenzies. I honor and engage with samp, keep inspire up on my bard get my frenzies on it while attempting to disco. Wearing around 2200 luck before statue on the bard.
The best way to solo shame is by yourself, Id say.
A sampire is will get the job done However, becides getting your armor beat to a pulp and having all the correct slayers..I use my bard all 120's..i have provo'd 8 monsters at one time bloods on unbounds, bloods on the evil mages..the trick is just south of the bridge by the bloods there are islands lure whatever you want to down there and provo the bloods on to them..Keep in mind if you teleport to the island and stand 1 square back you cannot be hit by mager spells...WOOT... They say fel has better loot, i have farmed fel also and im not convinced..Also it seems when i dont wear luck i tend to get better loot..
A bottle of whiskey would be my suggestion.
OH! Shame dungeon...riiiight. Sampire or bard.
don't forget slayer tallys work well too, reduces having multiple weapons
if ya wanna be bored you can use sampire with air elemental slayer (wind/chaos/unbounds) Blood elemental (greater bloods) Mage slayer tali (mages)
Other templates that work fine are Mystic mages (disco weaving mystic mage is great) or a bushido healing thrower works great as well (theres a safe spot you can teleport into to stay safe from unbounds and mages, when done right they wont teleport you onto them.)
I see most replies support the use of a Sampire in Shame for solo play.
Understandable, because if a sampire can solo Peerless or other high end Bosses, it makes sense that it would do well also in Shame.
Still, there is one detail I do not understand........
The Sampire is very much dependant on armor and weapon. It has to be the right modifiers for leeching, skills etc.
Now, since one of the "big" changes for Shame loot quality generator was the fine tuning of "in game luck", I am not sure, other than perfection, how a sampire can have a high luck suit to get better quality loot and, at the same one time, be able to have all those modifiers which allow it to be a Sampire in the first place.........
It looks to me that there simply is not enough room for high Luck numbers and all those modifiers that a Sampire needs......
I tweaked my sampire suit to have more luck for Shame. Here is my list from memory (I think I got the statue amount correct):
- 1000: Perfection
- 500: Luck Statue
- 140: Golden Longsword
- 140: Conjurer's Garb
- 95: Heart of the Lion
That's 1875 luck. It depends on me getting to honor my foe. Without honor I have to switch my weapon to one with a slayer instead of luck and I loose the perfection luck bonus. So I would be at 735 without honor.
It is even better, if you are a mystic, using hail storm with a blood element slayer spell book. You can easily be in luck suit too ...
i find that prov disco mystic works the fastest for me
unbound EVs destroy greater dragons...everything else seems like a piece of cake, just takes hella long.
wind elementals (air ele slayer) are possibly the best to kill per time/loot, especially if you can rank 1,000-2,000 luck.
Being a crafter first also. Disco/Tamer with a pack, luck luck luck. First and second level troll or better the clays. Troll for the pirate hunting supplies side bonus. Getting clean FCR4, 4 ManaRegn or SSI with usable other mod jewels. Clean wood shield with high Luck or SSI. CLean armor with 25LRC. HCI or 10LMC.
Sure not going to clean up on relic fragments. Not going to get that uber 6 liner. But I know my vendors wish I'd stop wasting time fishing and start hunting more.
