Blackthorn's Keep in Trammel...gone.

Remember the global event where mass amounts of raiders invaded Britain while kegs from Ver Lor Reg went all 'splodey around us? Remember how, at the end, the bridge to Blackthorn's Keep was partially destroyed and the keep itself set on fire?

Well... the Keep is gone in Trammel.

In Felucca, the Keep (and the grave) still exist normally.

Why do I get the sinking feeling that Britain is going to receive a hideous 'make over' a la New Magincia?

This is just wrong and sad. What purpose does it serve to destroy UO history? Will the devs blame this awful idea on exodus?
On a positive note I still like the banners, so thank you Grimm.

Anything placed by an EM or Mesanna (and thus NOT a part of the map file ) appears to have remained. If there were things IN the bookshelves, however, who knows :(

I had it torn down. Gonna be a new warm and friendly building there as soon as I get the go ahead. Casino in front, house of ill repute in the back ;) Of course, there will be a small nominal door fee...

IMO, I think they should start shaking up the whole of what we know. Fifteen years without much by change in the buildings that make up our cities (on either facet) seems odd. I for one bid the blasted keep a fond farewell. One yet exists, so there's no harm in getting rid of the other.

As for what might have been inside the bookshelves... probably nothing of worth. Any of the player-written books were likely vandalized long ago as they could not be locked.

Personally, I'd like to see them add small areas to the edges of ALL the towns to allow small buildings to be placed for player purposes. New Magincia's design is way too simplistic, but allowing players to become active parts of a city is not a bad idea.

You go out of your way to make sure everyone has an event before the gargoyle city gets destroyed, but you don't so much as even say anything about LB's old castle getting burned to the ground?

Yeah yeah the books so important that no other record of them exists are a devastating loss. Tire of hearing "Oh no a Seer put a ham on the floor there 12 years ago and that ham is part of historyyyy!" whenever the devs go to change anything.

The castle is still there in Felucca, which has way more history as its the original, unlike the copy in Trammel.

Don't know if it has any meaning at all..but one book was left behind called, "Thirteen" by Celestria. It's a poem about lands lost. Don't know if it's been around forever and just randomly fell to the ground. Or if it has some meaning, clue?. Btw this is on Chessy.

I'm gone for a few days, come back and all of Britain hell has broke loose! and not a word from anyone on it?
I always felt his home a permanent fixture because of the rich history and nostalgia.
Not many, it seems, value what that means - and that in itself is distressing.

to be fair, aside from em events on some shards all the history is pretty much from the "fel" side one anyways, and that's still standing on every shard.

    Civil disruptions are, well, disruptive.

You know it's funny, elsewhere on U-Hall we have complaining in essence that things aren't even more tipped towards evil? Which is in essence arguing that things should be even more disruptive?

The post you replied to appears to have been deleted (or am I missing it?). At any rate, without agreeing with what appears to be your central premise, I'll raise this issue....Upon seeing that Blackthorn's Castle was burning, if folks knew there were valuable historical documents in there, why not run in and copy them so at least the text would still exist?

While we didn't know the Castle would eventually burn down surely we should have guessed that its being on fire for weeks wasn't good.

And finally is it not funny how we complain that big-picture, permanent changes don't happen, yet also complain when they do?

It's not a matter of complaining about the changes, its complaining about changes like this happening with no notice, fanfare, mention, reference, etc at all. I didn't even know the place had been burning.

And likewise, how long has the bloody casino been there? These are the kinds of things it would be nice to know about. Or even have a vague "there might be something new around here" hint about. I mean damn.. for that you'd think they'd at least have put a sign by the dungeon entrance saying there was something off in that direction or such.

Actually. the castle was destroyed weeks ago according to the fiction posted on April 10th on the UOHerald:

The Awakening - Act III | Mythic Entertainment | Ultima Online

It just took some time to patch it out of existence...

Reagrding books in Blackthorn's Castle: There's still books there on GL, kind of floating in the air. Cant' be reached in the Classic Client, but if they're still there on whatever shard you're concerned about, I'm betting they can be copied using the Enhanced Client.

Ah.. of course.. it was put into the fiction I never read. That explains it. Well then, change my argument to "it should be mentioned places other than just in the fiction". I used to read it years ago, but ever since the writing quality dipped I haven't bothered.

When I read "remains of the castle", I thought there will be some damage inside but that'd be about it and the basic structure will stay so that it can be repaired later. Apart from the furniture, there is not a single wooden or brick structure inside the castle since it is built by only using stone and stone is not exactly known for its high flammability. You cant wipe a castle with a medieval crowd, that is not how it works. In fact, destroying a stone castle is so hard that armies used to make the castles they conquered their new headquarters. And also, search for burned down castles on the web, you will see that all of them are still standing today, even the ones burned down a millennium ago.

And for the 12 year old item a Seer placed comment, Ultima Online is "our second home" as Lord British put it in September 23, 1997; so it is more than natural to feel upset when someone wipes a part of it. You might not care, but we do, show some respect.

I thought they built hot fires underneath to make them drop? Easily done here since the place is on an Island.

We're talking about rioters here, not medieval armies and they need a catapult to at least damage the walls.

I was trying to re-enforce the logical reasoning that the castle cannot just be 'dropped'. Distanced from the shore would make it tough even for an army.
I think they will need to explain themselves in the near future. No rubble, so 'almost' complete obliteration? not buying it here.
Grass is grown, so we had a little time warp.
Fel might be easier to explain - the person behind it also created care-bears and is a 100% Trammy?

    .

Don't need the enhanced client. I'm strictly CC, I copied ours on Legends last night. You know how on idocs, with stuff hung in the air, you can get two or three tiles downscreen of it and pick it up? instead of standing right under it? Same thing with the books, you can't pick em up, but if you get there, you can copy them with inscription. Now the open book looking things, that look like the Holiday Cards kinda, cant copy...says they are not a book :/

If your runes to Castle Blackthorne all say blocked when you try to gt there, launch a small ship off the point of land east of the castle isle and sail to the island, there are a few places there where you can disembark.

Well, I was going to write a rant about Blackthorne's castle wiped out Haven-style with no player involvement, just immovable, non-interactive kegs no one seemed to be concerned or care about, and long pointless fiction. But you know what? It's just Trammel. It was just a knock-off in the first place.

As for Felucca, just add leaves to the trees again, lift the Faction requirement to enter Castle British, and bring back Magincia, and we'll be good.

Well I can't speak for for any shard other than Chesapeake where I reside, but...
The whole point of the shards to begin with is we each have the same world but our own histories unfolding. On Chesapeake, kegs of alchemy devastation potion were stolen and used to destroy the castle. This mixture was a formula researched and developed by Balandar the Archmage(EM RPC) on our shard to clear mountain passes and cave entrances. So at least on Chesapeake, it is very likely there is no castle remaining.

In regards to shard histories. We have a lot of incredible players on Chesapeake and I'm sure on other shards, who spend a great deal of time, gold, and energy in preserving our histories. It may be spending many hours creating a well decorated museum, writing books, maintaining a library, hunting down and spending large amounts of gold and RL $$ to bring back historical artifacts that have been traded off a shard, or spending countless hours designing web articles, maps, etc...

Like any society, sometimes it requires the community to take an interest in observing, preserving and protect their own histories. In the real world histories are often destroyed, decay, lost, and forgotten.

The above is not meant in any way to be a slam against anyone, it is simply to point out that different shards may have completely different experiences.

Here comes a new UO: LBR. Ultima Online: Lord Blackthorn's Return this time, instead of Ultima Online: Lord Blackthorn's Revenge. I mean, his Castle in Ilsh got blown to smithereens, his Keep in Tram got blown to bits, Exodus Dungeon is now active once again, and Ver Lor Reg is once again enslaved. How much you want to bet that Lord Blackthorn's Crypt get's raided, and his body stolen then resurrected by Exodus? Exodus was never killed on any shard, hell, he didn't even actually show up on any shard. After Lord Blackthorn was killed rather unceremoniously on all the shards, Exodus was never heard from again more or less from the event/RP point. On Napa, they just dumped Lord Blackthorn in the Councilor's Guild of Serpent's Hold, opened a gate to it from Brit Castle, and told us to go kill him. How lame.

I seem to recall on GL we had a big chat with Dawn and someone else I can't remember at Serpents Hold then we went to Yew Fel and killed Blackthorn
