When you cast Protection Spell on yourself, the description officially says that the casting speed is "decreased". But in fact, the casting speed is ZERO, no matter how many faster casting items you put on. The casting speed is not "decreased", but it is set to ZERO.

Is this intended? Is it a bug?

On www.uoguide.com they say that the casting speed is decreased by 2 points when under the effect of Protection Spell. But that probably is wrong.

If I had to guess I'd say its probably intentional. They probably, specifically, do not want mages to be able to remove all of the negative affects of the thing via items. If protection didn't pull the casting down to 0 no matter what, it would be possible to build a suit with full speed mage casting and unaffected resists despite protection being on and that seems that it would be overpowering (in some circumstances, protection is already overpowered in my observation).

I believe it's a mistake in the spell description, what happens is the casting cap is decreased by 2.

If so, that's interesting, as it would allow non-interruptable 2/6 chiv. I don't run a fast casting chiv PVP char so it's not something I've ever thought about.

Well then someone test it or provide some details as to how it works. Or both. I don't have all the crap on me to test it right this second.

If I remember correctly, protection will

    1) Reduce your fc by 2
    2) If you use FC items to boost it, the cap will be FC 0, but no higher

both casting speed and casting cap are reduced by 2. spells cant be interrupted anymore, physical resist and magicresist get lowered.

i said hes wrong because it doesnt set you faster casting to zero. it reduces it by 2. it can go negative or it can be over zero for casting skills with higher cap than magery.

Found it, there was a FoF in December:http://www.uo.com/fof/fiveonfriday90.html

And the FC cap info was updated:
    http://guide.uo.com/magic_1.html

    Quote:
"Players under the protection spell have decreased physical resistance stat value, a decreased "resisting spells" skill value by -35, and a slower casting speed modifier (technically, a negative "faster cast speed") of 2 points. This modifier is applied after the cap takes effect, so additional FC above the cap will not counteract the negative effect of this spell."

So technically, the Protection Spell decreases the faster casting cap by two? As the faster casting is capped at 2 for a mage, with Protection in effect it cannot get higher as 0 anymore, right?

That would mean, with no faster casting items equipped, your faster casting would actually be -2?

Why don't they just say so?

Nope. It just locks FC at 0.

As in it cannot go higher than 0 no mater how many fc1 you have on your suit.

According to how it's coded, it doesn't touch the FC cap directly. But technically, yes, for magery it's equivalent to having a FC cap of 0. Without any FC items, you will at FC -2.

It also doesn't really lock FC at 0, since without FC items, you get FC -2. Also, FC caps for Chiv, Ninjitsu etc are different. Ninjitsu has a natural FC cap of 4. So for Ninjitsu, you can slap on +4 worth of FC items to boost it to FC 2.
