A player, who was developing the most favored Mod for EC in Japan ( not BitterBlack_SA ), has recently stopped development and distribution of his Mod.

He applied for adding his site to the official fan site links of EA Japan, which is equivalent to Forums & Fansites of Herald.

But EA Japan has refused his application. Why?

Because his Mod includes many extensions of EC functions, and they can not give support if someone uses it and claims support for it to EA Japan.

Could you imagine such a splendid explanation?

His Mod is very useful and effective to draw players who are using CC to trying EC. Many players who were using only CC before took a look at EC, and started using EC mainly thanks to his Mod.

I think this is ridiculous. I believe that EA Japan wants players not to use EC in Japan.

    -----

By the way, also my site(Britannia Bibliothek) is not added to fan site links of EA Japan, although it is on that of Herald(fan site links on Herald).

Because my site includes a link to InsideUO, which is not UO PRO tool.

    -----

I don't mind that my site is not on their fan site links. But if they set restrictions to Custom UI of EC, it would be ridiculous. If they refuse adding the site which includes a very functional Mod for EC to their fan site links, it would ****** growth of Custom UI culture in Japan.

    So what's the mod anyway?

You also should realize that even if the EC Mod you speak of does not or would not adversely affect the product, there may be laws in Japan for copyright or intellectual property protection that differ from the US and thus make the refusal necessary.

Ughh...are you questioning the mod in general, or what is this mod?

I mean Mod here as Custom UI of EC, which makes not only good appearances of it but also can add many functions to it.

This Mod is SR Mod. It is not distributed now. The player who developed this has stopped its distribution because of this issue.

, pretty much sounds like the person did a rage quit just because they wouldn't support his mods. That's no reason to stop helping people out with what you do. IMO, that's a little conceited, your not getting recognition so you won't continue to help people? please rolleyes:.

There could be something said about Tugsoft and the lack of further dev work done for UOA since the latest expansion. I fail to see how he can not add the words of power to UOA for the latest spells but who am I to complain...

The issue here is not that the mod creator basically rage-quit, it's that EA Japan is directly and autonomously contradicting EA Prime.

EC Mods are inherently legal by their very existence - the devs never would have made them possible in the EC if they were illegal ("Would you like some candy? Here's some candy. WHAT THE HELL YOU ATE THE CANDY YOU'RE GOING TO JAIL NOW!!!").

EA Japan has a history of shenanigans, though, as I once noted here.

Just to clarify this, are you saying EA Japan has decided not to add his site to the official fansite list because they are fearful that players will contact GMs/EA Japan for support issues for his mod?

The modder can offer to add a disclaimer on his page to explain that features within the mod is not supported by EA but by him directly.

I'm sure something can be worked out.

I know Japan has a solid modding community for other games, so I'm very interested in knowing more about this mod that can convert CC players to use EC. I understand the modder has pulled the actual mod down, but would you be able to post the list of its features? (Preferably translated to English ^_^)

The issue of this time has nothing to do with copyright or intellectual property, I think.

Exactly, yes. Thanks for an exact explanation for me. It's very difficult for me.

I think EA Japan doesn't have to worry about players' claim for support. They can reject them. Being fearful of it, not to add his site to fan site link, means laziness of EA Japan, I think.

I myself didn't use this Mod. But I'd like to get one, and look into it to know what you would like to know.

That is actually what the Modders Exchange was required to do in order to be allowed on the UO Herald Forums & Fansites page.

The disclaimer I have everywhere you can download stuff:

tell him to put it on the modders exchange and get over it. if its any good word of mouth will tell. otherwise looks like hes just sad cause he cant put his name out there more. Modding the EC is a free, profitless, community action. not some way to get your name on uo.com

And thank you for saying the name.

    Thanks for your suggestion!

But, it won't solve the problem at this time, for there will be surely some users who don't read the disclaimer and claim support to EA Japan, which probably depresses EA Japan.

Umm, well, this is very hard thing to explain.... I would think like you. But Japanese players in general think EA Japan as an authority. They consider it as a kind of honor to be listed on the page.

Assuming I'm interpreting all this correctly it's actually refreshing to see EA Japan screw up. They usually seem to have it really together over there, making me jealous, spiteful, and wistful.

    For example:
    - Added "loot mode". If you choose "loot mode", your client will not display object handles of already once opened corpses(2. Apr. 2010).
    - When you loot corpses, your client will put looted things automatically into an previously assigned container(18. Sep. 2009)
    - You can put a space into pet's name(17. Sep. 2009)
    - You can resize containers of inventory form and containers of list form(12. Aug. 2009)
    - etc...

Like, for example, I can tell the MOD to "automatically" loot for me "crystalline blackrock" without actually having to open up the corpses and pick it up ?

That is, with this MOD, I just walk by corpses and the MOD does it all for me and the "crystalline blackrock" just automatically appears in my backpack ?

If so, I would switch to the EC client in a heartbeat. I really want this MOD......... !!!

I'm confused, what's the difference between a mod and a script. People are upset over scripters as it is, I'm very confused as to what this is leading to.
Ea Japan doesn't want it, why would Cal and the Devs in the States need to hear about it ?

No, mods can't do that. When you right click on a loot item in the EC, it will move to your pack automatically. This mod sounds like it will move items to a designated bag within your pack instead of your main pack.

    To answer RawHeadRex:
Mods are enhancements that players can write within the rules the Dev Team allows, for the EC.

"Scripts" are programs that are run along side UO and allow for features that the Devs don't intend for us to have. aka... cheating.

    Nice!

Would give it a try if the modder decides to share again.

Talking about that I was wondering if there was a way to get ctrl+ shift to show only mobs, while alt will show copses only. Is this possible with EC?

Like Zym says, it doesn't sound like the mod have an autoloot function.

It justs let you set aside a loot bag so that when you right click on an item to do a quick loot, the looted item goes into the designated bag.

Without this, EC still allows you to quick loot an item with a single right click, but the item goes into your main pack. It gets messy after a while.

I love the function where it remembers which corpses you have looted. Currently I do ctrl+shift to bring up handles, then close each handle for corpses I have looted (I also close the handles for mobs as well).

The problem with that is sometimes, I need to release ctrl+shift to hit my spell macro etc. Then when I want to continue looting, ctrl shift brings up all the object handles that I have previously closed.

    ...

Harl, I think the closest we can get right now is the 'on the fly' toggle with some (upcoming) filtering ast he object handle keystroke isn;t one that's programmable in the EC currently (although you could probably flesh out the concept and post it to Feedback/Bug Report and on the EC forum and see if Axel will take you up on it... he's been pretty damn good lately about taking the postings on the EC board into account (see last few patches).

Some of the options in the aforementioned Mod sound intriguing and I'd love to see the author work with us on the Exchange (but then we're always on the lookout for more contributors to the Exchange (as well as helpful translators).

Cool! Can I bind the on the fly toggle to a keystroke? And select which mode I want without cycling through the options?

If so I can bind left ctrl+shift to toggle to show mobs, and bind right ctrl+shift to toggle to show corpses.

I will make a post in the EC boards in any case.

    ...

Not yet that I know of on the binding... basically in the UI mods, it's the little bar you'll see on the screen that will say "Corpse", "Dynamic Objects", etc. That is the same set you'll find in User Settings and is changeable via context menu on the bar... example below:

So the EC basically does what is considered cheating in the CC. Oh the nice hypocrisy of Mythic.

Yeah, this "move to designated pack" smacks of the UOA Organizer agent type of thing. That would put it into the arena of needing EA approval to implement I believe ... like the hoops Tugsoft went thru for UOA.

You are right, it's not a right and I know that.

I don't insist that EA Japan should give him an honor of adding his site to their official fan site link as of right. EA Japan rejected his request because his Mod opened to public on his site includes too many functions, and they can not offer support for those functions to players who use his Mod. They show a negative incentive to making use of Custom UI or creating functional mods through this action. I say, this is problematic.

I don't think that they want EC to prevail among Japanese player base.

US UO team has been making game mechanisms and clients. UO Japan team took only its management in Japan. I think EA Japan UO team should offer these game mechanisms and clients as are intended to players under their management.

But if EA Japan UO team restricts making use of Custom UIs and creating Mods, Japanese players can not have the same game experiences as those of players in US or Europe.

I think Cal is in charge of entire UO, including development or managemment, so I think he had better know about what I post here. And, if some functions of EC would be restricted in Japan, also Axel had better know of it.

I think, you mean that EA Japan isn't equal to EA UO.

    Exactly, yes.

Japanese player base is only a part of entire UO player base. I don't know the exact number, but Japanese player base accounts for fairly large portion of entire UO player base. And Cal is in charge of entire UO, therefore he should pay proper attention to Japanese player base according to its proportion, if they cannot have fair game experiences in playing UO.
