can tamed reps have a buff please?

Discussion in 'UHall' started by Belanos/Icicle, May 5, 2009.

  1. I think reptalons shouldn't lose so much stat when they've been tamed. They're fairly useless as a combat pet but take up four slots, and I think they're about the best looking mount around. How about making them at least comparable to a tamed cu?

  2. They certainly need a buff of some sort, but give them something special so they aren't just another self-healing tank.

How about this for a point of discussion:

A bad dread war horse is better than a good reptalon in nearly every way.

I agree, they need to be alot better. Right now they are useless for anything but bank sitting.

They aren't even good for that!... they only come in one color..... blah... Kinda like Unicorns I certainly wish those came in more colors. (And GOOD monsters need a buff too please!... Dreadwarhorses are cool and all.... but now my unicorn is out to pasture.... *frowns*)

    Wow.................

Reptalons are still useless as they were years ago before I left ?

I am surprised again. I do remember from well before I left, years back, that a lot of tamers were asking for a buff since they were not good for much as they were, after the nerf they got shortly after their initial release.

Very hard and dangerous to tame, but not much usefull to use as a pet. Risk vs Reward not much working well with Reptalons.....

I thought by now Reptalons had already been buffed and been made somehow usefull again and am surprised to hear they have not.

That nerf done it in for me, using reps.
they were great when they were first on the scene, but, sadly they are now just another stable clog.

I agree......... I remember from years back players even having in their signature when posting on Stratics a few words in support of the poor, neglected Reptalon.......

It is really incredible to me that in so much time nothing has yet been done to help this neglected tame, despite quite a few tamers supporting the Reptalon. Is it possible to ask why?

Why not support the requests to make the Reptalons a usefull tame again ? What might be the reasons to keep the Reptalon as yet another "stable clog" as it has been for too long, now ??

Reptelons had their glorious era of about a month. They used to do nerve strike and that's about as good as they get. Now they do paralyzing blow and that's about it.

They don't tank well, don't have useful specials (compare to cus bleed and hiryu dismount) they have ****ty resist, and is considered a dragon so they get killed just as easy. Its really funny dreads are better than those in almost every single way. But there's nothing else in game that requires 3 control slots only and can dish out 50 dmg FB + Chaining spells + 600+ hp but even if we don't look at the infamous oped dreads Reps still don't worth jack in comparsion to Cus and Hiryus.

Just put the nerve attack and fire breathe back in place give them better resist or give them a unique damage distribution like 100% poision or 50point 50fire... at least make them useful even just in some rare occasions.

  12. And for a unique special, make the do double damage in Felucca! Just don't let them in Felluca. :D

I've been fighting for my poor Reptalon since the completely overdone nerf during ML beta. It keeps falling on deaf ears.

I had a thread running which I'm sure is gone by now. But the best alternative people came up with there was to give the Reptalon a similar life leech ability to Vampire Bats.
Most people seemed to agree that it had to be something different, so not turning it into another Rune Beetle (Poison) or Cu (Heal).

Another issue with the Raptalon which anyone can confirm is the hit speed. a Cu or any other pet with the SAME dex/stam as a Rept will hit TWICE as fast. Another interesting thing you can try out is to get a 100% elemental damage weapon, a Rept, and another pet with the exact same resist in that element as the Rept, and then start hitting both pets. The Rept will take much more damage with the same STR/Resists/HP.

Reptalons got broken during the ML beta and has never been fixed. I STILL come across people who ask me where to get one, or if it's a new tameable because they've never seen one. Yet everyone and their mom has a Cu.

Yeah, they definately need a buff. I remember that thread where we suggested that they either get the Vampiric Bat life leech ability, or the Meer Eternal's Blood Drain ability, to make them more up to par.
Another thing that could be done to them, which would make them quite unique as a pet, is to give them the Necromancy skill.

Real pity they're so nerfed, especially after i took all the time to farm a near perfect one.

Well, it appears much so if the years go by and the neglected Reptalon is, well, still neglected after so long...........

    My question, though, is "why".

I mean, if the Reptalon has not been made usefull over such a long time despite the many requests from tamers, it makes me guess that the designers may have something against this poor beast for some reasons.

But what may it be ?

They were probably thinking "Dood we just gave you Dread Pwnhorse and Super Dooper Dragons mate!!11"

I really dont know. Look back in time they do not "fix" any pets. They simply come out with newer, more powerful pets. If you got useless pets in your stable chances are they will remain that way until the game gets shuts down or you releasing them making rooms for the new super pets.

I kept my regular dragon I had for many years thinking one day it will be useful again... nope... then I pull out my shiny snowy White Wyrm and thinking to myself wow this is baby was once the best pet you can have as a tamer but last time she attacked something was at least 5 years ago. Then I look at my fire steeds and pat on them a little telling them I just got this dreadmare that can eat you for lunch... then...

*release* Dragon 1, *Release* Dragon 2, *Release* WW, *Release* Fire Steed 1, *Release* Fire Steed 2. and then....

    GUARDS
    GUARDS
    GUARDS
    GUARDS
    GUARDS

    Rest in peace my friends.

ps. I bet my trained Super Dragon can kill them all all the sametime 1 vs 5 without any assistance. :blushing:

Look at the bright side, they might give us the new Greater Reptalons. Possibly a worthy mountable 5 slotter that breathe fire and casts too. Then I will have an new favorate dismount all kill pet.

  19. This is probably what I'll end up doing later on today with my Rept and WW. There really isn't a better option at this point, and they're literally a waste of space. I'd completely forgotten that I even had them until I read this thread if that tells you anything...

Please don't release your Reptalons. Use them, hunt with them, show people you meet how incredibly broke they are. They'll never get fixed if noone ever uses them :(

I would also like to see Reptalons given a buff in abilities.

Perhaps some new hues too! =)

Never hurts to have variety. I love to look at all the creatures walking about with their player companions. I would enjoy that even more with some added variety!

    Sadly true........

Reptalons could be a cool pet if only the developers decided to finally give them some love.

Besides, perhaps it would not even be much coding work if they only turned on again the nerve strike and the fire breath which they turned off years ago.

Who knows, maybe it would only take as easy as a code switch change from off back to on again for those 2 abilities...........

Actually they still have fire breath. It's the only thing they have that deal any sort of damage to anything. Sadly it hits so rarely that a single nightmare will still outdamage a Reptalon over time.

My suggestion would be to restore their original abilities, as well as possibly drop them to 3 control slots. :)

I sure wish we could get a few more stable slots!

I really think we would see alot more variety in the pets being used regularly if we had more stable slots to keep them in. It's hard enough to just manage stabling the heavy hitters, nevermind keeping a pack of Frenzieds or Hellcats, a Reptalon or two, beloved pets that have been companions for years, and also unique ones like the Purple Bunnies! And as mentioned before, roleplaying a Tamer who enjoys providing pets for customers is pretty much impossible, unless you don't want any fun pets to play with yourself.

Please Devs...show the Reptalons some love! Obviously someone loved them during their creation, as they're very cool looking, especially the wing animations (anyone feel like posting a screenie of these guys in KR?)...and consider giving us some more stable slots too.

The new Hitching Post comes to mind...perhaps if you have one of these at your home, additional slots would be granted for all character slots on the account. Say 7 more with Legendary Taming/Lore/Vet. The additional slots would be available at home or at any stable, with a limit of one Hitching Bonus per account, regardless of however many additional Hitching Posts the home might have. This would not only add more value to the Tokens available at the UO Codes store, but also give something to our crafters who lovingly build the Replica Posts (for Replica Posts, the bonus slots could be a lesser number or whatever seems appropriate if necessary).

Sorry for going a little OT, but I really feel that alot of our legacy pets would see more adventuring if we had more stable slots to work with, as well as buffs for the Reptalons! :)

  30. Sad to say I released both my Reptalon and WW today. If you go to the Compassion gate in Ilsh you'll see both Elven Firestarter and Bright Revenge wondering what happened to their warm dry houses.

I'll post screenies of my Rept Jormundgand after work. But I just had a random idea.

How about making Reptalons immune to poison? Would give them a bit of a niche, and still be different from other pets. Obviously they still need to be looked at regarding the other issues they are plagued with too.

  32. Eh... it's not a bad idea, but I would still find my cu sidhe better in almost any situation. Something... better... unique. Maybe it steals items from the target? NOW, that would be useful!

  33. MoneyMaker

    MoneyMaker Guest

Hmm, I like the idea of them being able to thieve items, definitely unique, but it might cause the thief community to outcry about tamers (like we need anyone else screaming nerf the tamers).
Hmm, the Necros has the blue vacuum, so why not have it be able to pickup items.
Although it being able to thieve is alot better IMO, Just afraid that we will hear more cries for nerfing.

  34. Ya... but it would be unique! And actually, after taming it isn't all that hard to kill especially with a dragon slayer. And it of course, it would flag both pet and owner as criminal, loose karma, all that stuff.

But the concept is there... give it a unique skill, not just another way to kill. Give it a purpose so that every tamer would want on it his or her stable. ARE YOU LISTENING DEVS? Heh

  35. I don't think they need a stealing ability or looting ability. Actually I would prefer that they removed horde minions from necromancy, because all I see are newbs who run in at the last second who take all the gold.

The best buff in this case I believe would be first to enhance its resists, lower the amount of taming/stable slots required, give it firebreath and maybe some new hues.

But I also believe all pets in general need to be rebuffed in a sequence so that they all fall under a specific level category.

  36. I just threw stealing out there as a unique ability example. As far as buffs go and fire breath, I disagree because I don't think we need another greater dragon. We already have pets for that, why would we need another?

    New hues and colors

  37. BadManiac

    BadManiac Guest

Screw new hues and colors we already have Cu's and Parrots for that. Leave the Reptalon the way it is, just fix it, and give it something special. Life drain/Vampire ability, poison immunity, something.

  38. MoneyMaker

    MoneyMaker Guest

    I totally agree.

I know that everyone hates the hoarde minions of necro, but it is not always the necro himself dumping stuff into them. Those things are like vacuums, they will pick up anything not nailed down.
They do need to address the problem (if they haven't already) of the summoned hoarde minions not having a weight limit.
Also the spawn areas need to be locked when actively in use. (similar to mel and other peerless). But I doubt that it will ever be implimented, since most of the spawn areas are in fel. On the flip side of that, there could still be raids done, since you will know that there is actually someone doing the spawn and will have to leave eventually. (this might go a long way twords bringing some of the trammelites over to fel for PS's.)

  39. The reason why I suggest firebreath is because it would require less stable slots, can be used with alternative pets such as a rune beetle etc. It wouldn't necessarily be another GD, but a secondary option if they lowered the taming slots required to control it.

Another idea I just thought of would be to give it the sonic noise thing that grizzle does. It lowers the enemies cast speed and movement. It would be a super effective taming agent for walk/tamers with help from other tamers and could be useful for other purposes. Give it a resist buff, but not hp and keep the stable/taming slots at 4 so they cannot be tanked with other pets to over balance pvp; although someone will probably tank with other pvpers in ganking situation.

  40. Spawns have a lot of issues. A lot of the pub 58 fixes weren't actually fixed. I just got my second replica coming in at the champ when it was less than 3/4s health.

Hordes on the other hand need some serious fixes. They need weight caps and I personally believe they should not be able to pick up gold. Like you said they are a vacuum and even with a weight limit, they would inhale gold until they reached the weight limit. So they would still be an issue. I believe they should just not be able to carry/pick up gold period and case solved.

Although this isn't about the thread topic, may I ask why you feel they shouldn't be able to carry gold? I mean maybe a limit on the weight but it seems that you are ranting more than stating a needed fix. You must have a bunch of gold scavengers on your shard or something. I just PK anyone who tries to come down and loot gold. The horde minions just make the trip more fast considering all players can hold around 60k anyhow.

  42. Well few reasons.

    1) I do tram and fel spawns. Fel spawns aren't the issue because I do what you do.

    2) Like MoneyMaker said, they're like a vacuum. At the end of spawns, all the gold in tram is wiped out almost immediately if a few necros attend.

I'm not really bashing their looting ability, just that they shouldn't be able to carry gold. It's an unfair advantage over every other class that sits there, does the work, and then have a random stealth/necro reveal and cast out a horde minion to run in circles and take the gold. 80% of the profit comes from the gold in tram because the loot usually sucks, sots are dropping fairly slow, and replica drop rates *in my case* are once every few blue moons.

And yes I am on GL so there are plenty of scavengers. As bad as ghost cams, I know of two guilds that have stealthed chars at each tram spawn who notify their guild when the spawn reaches level 4. It might be 3 of my guildies doing a spawn and then all of a sudden its a picnic for large allianced guilds.

What about Armored Reptalons?. Armor made with dragon scales, boosts resistances to 5x70, retains the color of the scales.

  44. Maybe, not a bad idea. I would rather, or also, see some unique ability added, like Krato suggested the sonic noise that Grizzled does. That's rather unique. Firebreath... eh, we already have 3 pets that can do that.

  45. MoneyMaker

    MoneyMaker Guest

I like the idea of a different pet/mount having armor, but the dragon scales currently only give a bonus to one resist each, respectively.
Dragon scales would actually benefit from this idea, since they are currently are rarely used, but they would also have to be usable by swampies, and vice versa for the dragon barding.
It would only make sense that you could use dragon barding on both, since both are classed as mountable dragons. Probably have to loose the ability for flight on reps while wearing the barding, since it would cause a good bit of weight (just for a bit of realism).

    Unique eh?

How about give them spellweaving and let them count in a circle giving them the same focus level as the rest of the circle.

  47. I was thinking maybe give them the ability to fly like gargoyles will have in SA.

  48. I'd love to see a mana leech ability that would pass the mana on to it's owner. That plus a boost in resists and firebreath and it would be a solid pet unlike any other.
