I was wondering if it would ever be possible to change ingots and leather to be more comparable too wood. I am meaning how wood adds properties and even has higher resists.

I know its been brought up before so lets try it again.

    Thanks.

I think your looking for the word "Enhance" and they do... plenty of material here on Stratics about it.. just noone uses it anymore since imbueing.

    actually, they do.
Luck suit: craft in leather - imbue luck - enhance with spined, imbue any other required properties (repeat steps one and two till 3 succeeds :D )

Actually I'm wrong.. it's used a lot in making leather armour's .. I shoulda just said that since metal armour is rarely used anymore the ingot part of enhancing is not as widely used.

It sure would be if the resist were the same as wood. Most of the truly high end armor are enhanced after imbuing.

I almost NEVER use Ingots anymore for enhancing... they don't really add anything worthwhile so why bother.

About the only thing I do use ingots for in enhancing is to make a weapon that might be 70-90% something 100%.... like 100% Cold or Fire... that's pretty much it.

I would agree it would be nice to have this updated and upgraded... Since leather and wood add SO much more.

Or perhaps we can add in things like Pot Ash, Charcoal, and such to add add other properties.

People are now using Dull Copper to enhance Cannot Be Repaired items from 150 durability to 225 Durability to add to the time you can use said item. Also, enhancing with ingots is being used on some of the loot items to bump them up to Relic level for unraveling.

    This.

See also Old Man of UO's post in the crafters forum regarding weapon elemental damage. I enhance all my imbued metal weapons with either dull copper, bronze, or valorite; other metals dependent on slayer type.

Metal armor does need a bump to offset the negatives.

I think you are missing what I said, I know what they do, but if you compare wood to ingots and even leather it does far more. Some add damage increase, swing speed, HP regen and one even does a random property. I could make an amazing suit and weapon out of wood armor compared to what I can do with ingots.

I guess the only other way it could be done is to make wood wearable by all races, this does nothing for weapons but its a start.

Woodland armor is elf-only. If you bring the same advantage to other races you would in fact be tweaking the racial balance (which actually is currently quite ok I think).

As I thought, what you want is in fact to have the advantage of Elves given for free to the other races. Why don't just play an Elf?

Non-elves can use wood-based weapons which receive the same bonuses. The OP is correct that the enhancements need to be tweaked accordingly for metal and leather, however the INCORRECT assumption was that noone enhances with metal and/or leather.

One I have elves, sometimes I do not like the look of them or the look of the armor that is the reason of not playing an elf all the time. Also I said comparable not exactly the same as wood. Although it could be done with weapons and shields as in there are no elf only weapons, basically that comes down to archers and melee.

Actually with a pair of morph earrings (faction item) you can wear it. What I do on my Sampire. Then again I am in a PvP guild but that is a good work around if someone really wants wood armor.

Or he is saying to balance out the materials? Bloodwood by itself enhancing on a suit of armor gives you added resist of 3/8/1/3/3 (18 total resists) and HPR 2. Valorite, the top metal gives you a whopping total of 13 resistance added and no other mods. Just the resists on bloodwood make it far better than valorite.

I have thought for years that when they came out with the woods they should have updated leather and ingots, ingots mainly. In general most people do not even use metal armor because with GM leather you can get the exact same resists as you can with GM Valorite Plate. So why use the stuff that is heavier, has a high str requirement, and the biggest disadvantage, is NON-MEDDABLE! I can say I have metal armor on one char. My fisherman and that is just an RP thing.

Ingots need a boost to their resists or to the mods they add to make them worth using.

BTW...Woodland armor is good enough that I actually run it on 4/5 of my dexers. The one I dont run it on is a stealther and dont need the stealthing penalty.

Yes well you can only wear and get morph earrings if you are in Factions... some of us would rather not do that. Also that don't work for GARGOYLES.... and it also doesn't help if you have earrings like the night sight ones..... or one of the resist earrings.

I have a few characters in Factions and it always stinks because then half the time if you want to do peerless mobs with friends or any of the new ones in the Abyss you can't because of some conflict between being in opposing factions and can't be in the same stinking party..... which in TRAM shouldn't matter but it does.

While I do think ingot enhancement for armor should be rethought somehow, again, just providing the same benefit as elf-only woodland enhancement would just create a new umbalance between races (why be an elf then? The 20 free mana are nice but wouldn't compete if it becomes the ONLY benefit), so I don't think it's the way to go.

Now the spoilers in the last client patch clearly show something big is coming regarding enhancement and runics, so I have to assume the best thing is to wait a few more weeks before even thinking about anything else. It's not like we aren't busy enough with the Shame jewelry :)

Concerning metal armor, it seems to make more sense to me to go the opposite direction the op suggested. I think enhanced resist bounses for metal armor should be doubled or even tripled. Same for the luck bonus from gold. Seems like a good balance between metal and leather. You get a free mage armor property from leather (140 intensity). A single resist point is around 7ish intensity? If so, and extra 20-22 resist points on top of what we have now, or an extra 140 luck from gold enhanced metal seems fair.

And for the love of all that is good.... make dragon armor enhanceable! It is the coolest looking armor in the game! (and fix luck on yellow scale armor)

 Yup, this seems like it would be fair. Metal armor has no advantages anymore, heck for years now it has not. Devs, PLEASE give us a reason to actually use metal armor again. Why is it that Leather and Wood should both be superior to Metal?

I agree with this as well. metal armor should atleast be better than leather for Warrior type characters.

Back in the day (pre aos) metal armor all had Dex Penalty, it lowered dex because of how much more AR it had compared to lighter armor types

I am all for helping out metal armor! Better resists would be a great start on that.

Who doesn't play an ELF? 20 more mana, free nightsight, Energy resist to 75 and can wear Elf AND Human armor.

    What is the downside?

They should have had Elfs wear ELF ONLY armor like gargoyles and then we'd have racial balance. Look around. 80% of characters are elves....
