When I get the log in patch, it tries to download it, then says error cannot patch, and I need to hit cancel button.
This is for the classic client.
Any help with this is greatly thanked.

If that's in the patch folder, yes delete it. That folder should be empty.
But what you're looking for is a file in the main 2d folder simply called 'patchlog'. On my pc it comes between 'palette.mul' and 'patchw32.dll'. Open that with notepad. It contains a list of what happened for every patch you've done so you'll have to scroll to the bottom. Entries look like this:
    Cliloc.enu

Applying MODIFY File Patch for 'Cliloc.enu'

    Writing New File

    Verifying - Passed!

    Deleting Old File

You need to find which file threw up an error.

oops! what if I deleted the whole file Petra?
Maybe I should reinstall the game?
Also I just find this in the most recent patchlog entry:

    error ept0036:

Old File not found. However, a file of the same name was
found. No update done since file contents do not

hehe it might be quicker, but you don't need to do it just for deleting that file. It's a log file, if you try patching again it will make a new one.

that's bad news, and the same news as was in one of those other threads I linked to. As far as I can see from that, it's the client.exe file itself that's become corrupted. If it had been one of the others we could have sent you a replacement. I'm no expert, but I'm awful afraid that one being the problem means a re-install.

Big TY to Petrafyde and others for all their help, it was a full reinstall that worked out ultimately.

I know this is old, but when you start seeing errors about .exe files not being able to be patch, that usually is an antivirus getting in the way. I try to disable my antiviruses active protection while I am patching for just this reason.
