Hi there. I apologize if this is the wrong forum for starters...kind of lost here though. I have always had a character that just kind of held skills for me...soulstone character I guess you could call it lol. Ahm...Anyways:

I was wondering the usefulness of cartography? Is a bard character good to have for it or feasible?

Can I have help with any template suggestions?

Is a mage type of template most common or does it really matter?

    Any input will be appreciated.

    My template:

115 magery (main damage output is from EVs)
    120 music
    120 peacemaking
    100 cartography
    100 lockpicking
    100 fishing
    60 meditation

The only problem I run into is the ancient wyrms - I'm not suited up to regenerate mana faster than they regenerate hp.

A little magery is pretty much a must (for telekinesis if nothing else). Dropping fishing would allow max meditation or another useful skill. The music/peace are really just for crowd control - if you're a good runner, there's really no need for it. Tamers are also very popular, I hear.

    Hope that helps :)

I would definitely do a bard for T-hunting. Maybe something like this:

    100 cart
    100 lockpick
    120 music
    120 provo
    110-120 magery
    100 peace
    rest in med

throw out some EV's, provo as much as you can and use area peace if you get into trouble. 110 magery might be enough, but there are a few times I'll fail on an EV like 5 time in a row. Not often, but it does happen. Might grab a crystalline ring to boost it without losing too much med.

Hey Great! Thanks so much for the suggestions. Much appreciated!

Actually a few more questions lol

So essential to have 100 lockpicking I can see then?

And...Peace is a given then for a bard cartographer? Toss up between having or not having Provo? Is Peacing and Music enough then?

  5. If you look at the amout of provo and peace Shot listed you see the answer to if you need it or not. Having all three will boost your chance to do an Ancient Wyrm If you look them up in the Hunter's Handbook you will see how hard they are to bard. I have actually SEEN 4 pop up when you first dig the chest. At that point you want to not only be able to Run but better know the path you want to take. They are listed there as being fast and also firebreath as a range attack. They actually buffed them up when they brought out the new dragon. Not that they was not tough enough.

    http://uo.stratics.com/database/view.php?db_content=hunters&id=102

I went with a tamer templet.

    Cartography...100
    Lock Picking...100
    Magery .........110
    Taming..........115
    Vet...............115
    Lore..............115
Magery resist the rest. [You don't want to get paralized when running]

Remember the Fast part. A new type dragon takes up 5 slots, and that will put you on Foot. Also you place the pet back far enough that you don't get more than one of them at a time. If you can kill one the balrons are easy.

Turn that bard into a tamer/bard for a solid PVM template.

If you are looking at making a THunter, I would recommend a tamer as well. No worries about that last Ancient Wyrm that you have nothing to provoke against.

    110 Taming
    110 Lore
    100 Vet
    100 Lockpick
    100 Fishing
    100 Magery
    100 Carto

I don't need to soulstone/swap any skills to deal with the spawn.

And yes, you'll need lockpicking at 100 to pick lvl 6 chests (0% success chance at 99.9) and and carto at 100 to decode lvl 6 maps (0% success chance at 99.9).

You might want to train a tinker as well, making lockpicks.

Okay great. Thanks for the information and everyone else as well. Yeah I have a tinker so that is good to know.

So tamer/bard cartographer is the way to go huh. Well, I guess I'll think about it. One tamer was painful enough though lol. Thanks so much for the input.

Legendary Tamer/Mage/ T Hunter for the win!

Get a Greater Dragon and 120 Vet and you will be able to solo any of the T-maps.

Solo Bard T Hunter for maps 1 through to 5 is ok, but level 6 is tricky. I used to have a Legendary Bard/Mage/T Hunter, but with the new changes to Dragon based Monsters like Ancient Wryms. It's hard to Provo them when 2 or maybe even 3 of them pop out when you dig up the chest! Hence the reason you bump into a few wandering AWs that have been lured away from the chest when recalling into a T map spot!

Also, when you have decoded all your T-Maps. You can Soul Stone off your GM cart and replace with another skill. You don't need GM cart to dig up a chest, only to decode the map.

Actually, I meant turn the bard that you have into a tamer/bard.

And make a new tamer char for T-Hunting. :D

But, yes, you can make a awesome tamer/bard cartographer with some +skill equipment or a soulstone:

    110 Taming
    110 Lore
60 Vet (Allows you to cure, but not res, use jewels to get to 90 for res)
120 Music (max bard skills for best discord chance and effect)
120 Discord (max bard skills for best discord chance and effect)
100 magery (to not fail invis from the initial spawn)
    100 Carto / 100 Lockpicking

Soulstone carto after you decoded the maps, then retrieve lockpicking from another soulstone.

Of course, customize to your liking based on your other +skill equipment.

Being able to dodge the skill cap using a soulstone like that feels like a bug.

    Yup :)

Instead of the bard skills, I still recommend the OP pump vet and drop the bard skills, then pick up fishing! It's an uber skill!

It's the only way to get SOS/ASOS, pure white metal chests, potraits, pillows, fishing nets, white pearls, certain marties, fish for your aquarium etc. Not to mention easy horned hides and fishsteaks up to your gills heh

    Trust me, take up fishing!

  13. You will want more than 60 vet. Many people think that healing and vet work the same way. Healing people the higher the healing the faster the bandages work. People want to get about a 2 sec heal. All tamers have 2 sec heals. The thing that changes is the amount of damage healed per bandage. If you are fighting a Ancient Wyrm you need to heal as many hit points per 2 sec as you can. Lore is controll of the pet. I also use the new dragon and there are times you want to move the fight farther away from the chest. The more powerful the pets the more controll you need to move it in a fight. There comes a time when you don't want to fight 2 things at a time and want to move back from the chest.

Also if you die you no longer are wearing the jewelry and may have less controll when you want and need it. I actually had a pet unbond because of lore being too low when I died. {That was back when I was a new tamer} Your more concerened about healing yourself than the pet and again may want to call it back. It is the only weapon you have. Most times if you keep it alive you stay alive too.

    My reg tamer is:

    Tame.......120
    Vet..........120
    Lore.........120
    Peace......120
    Music.......120
    Magery.....110 [can't aford the 120]

To me the only to T hunt is with a pet.

I also have a GM tinker. Cheeper to buy the pick than make them. Ingots cost more than the pick. Don't make a tinker for the picks even though it takes almost no skill to make them. Make a tinker for a better reason.

I see, so after working the skills up, you used other skills to make your character stronger and stoned those since they are supplementary skills it seems. Okay, good to know.

Lol, I liked Maplestone's fishing idea, but I understand the different template ideas.

Just one other question though. What really is the difference or benefit to doing level 5 maps to level 6 maps? Sorry more questions I guess lol. Ideal stats or stuff I should emphasize for a treasure hunter? Just typical magery stats? High INT and good STR?

Yes, I agree, pump all remaining skills into vet. I left vet lowest here because I figured that if you discord the AW, you will require alot less vet. But if you spawn 4 at the same time, you will need time to discord them all.

Healing speed is based on dex. There was a period of time that vet speed used to depend on dex as well, but it was changed, so now vet only takes 2 secs regardless of dex. Amount of HP healed is based off vet and lore. However, leave taming and lore at 110 real, as Warrior of Time pointed out, if you die, you may forget about re-equiping +taming/lore jewels before commanding your pet, and end up with your pet going wild/unbond.

I recommend 110 coz they work fine, if you don't want to spend the money for the 120s. If you want to shoot for 120, all the better. Just adjust the rest of your template accordingly.

Yes, fishing is a very good skill to fit in your T-Hunter :)

Level 6 are the ones that spawn the Ancient wyrms and Balrons. Besides more treasure chest loot, the lvl 6 chests all have 1 gauranteed mini arty. Some of these marties can only be gotten off treasure chests and not paragons.

    Yup, just str, and int.
If you like to carry more, empahize str, if you want to emphasize spell buffs/gheals, then more int. Humans get 3 more mana regen than elves.

  16. One more thing I would like to suggest. Do the T hunting in KR.

    1) You can see every item in the chest and read what it has on it before you take it out. That can mean that you will pick only the stuff that you like and leave the junk. That may mean you will have 1 or 2 Balron less to kill or any other monster that the chest may spawn. You may only want the gold, mini atrifact, and the 1 or 2 things that the chest may have of real value and go on. Basicly you can be as selective as you like looking at the things with out pulling it even if there is a doz items that would need to be pulled just to find what your after. The one chest as I look back feel like I was cheated by doing it that way since only the original 4 was all I had to kill. Stll the choice is your's if you want to pull every item or only what you want.

    2) Programing all of the locations of the chests into the map helps if you made a mistake on the location. You could be just one location away. In KR you can set how you want the locations to show up. No need to go back to the librarey to get to the right place. Just watch your location as you move to the next spot on the overhead map. When your there you will see the type of marker you picked showing you the exact tile to target when you dig. You have the choice to turn them on of off if you like

Okay thanks so much Warrior of Time, Harlequin, Joshua Ravenloft, Shot, and Maplestone for your advice. Seems tamer/t-bard is what I'll choose. I still wanna go fishing though lol
