casting sampire template - help :)

    so i'm finally getting closer than ever to finishing off my sampire. goal is to make a casting sampire who can debuff their own damage type. at the same time i'll be modular, i can swap skills as necessary to defeat opponents.

    here's what i've got - would appreciate any comments/suggestions for improvement. you guys have been at this longer than i have..

    female human for joat

    125 base dex
    100 base str
    25 base int

    120 sword
    100 tac
    100 anat OR resist
    100 spirit speak OR heal
    120 bush
    *61 chiv

    *i can bump chiv to 71 and lower heal/ss to 90.. i think 61 chiv will be ok tho

    the idea here is i can swap anat/resist/heal/ss in or out as needed, though ill probably keep 100 ss at all times so i can cast.

    head: faction m&s
    neck: imbued- fire resist, sta increase 8, lmc 8, lrc 20, mana increase 6
    chest: imbued- fire resist, sta increase 8, lmc 8, lrc 20, mana increase 6
    arms: imbued- fire resist, sta increase 8, lmc 8, lrc 20, mana increase 6
    gloves: imbued- fire resist, sta increase 8, lmc 8, lrc 20, one extra resist imbue
    legs: animated legs of the insane tinker
    ring: 8 str, 20 lrc, 5 ssi, 15 hci/dci
    bracelet: 8 lmc, 15 hci/dci, 20 di, 5 dex
    talisman: faction primer of arms
    back: ranger aug cloak OR quiver of infinity (hot swappable)
    cloak: cloak of death (needed to boost my hci)
    waist: faction crimson

    main ww weapon:
    40/20/40 fire/cold/poison double axe, 30 ssi, 40 di, 50 hit area cold, hml, hsl

    50/50 fire/poison, 30 ssi, 40 di, hml, hsl and.. either HLA or Hit Lightning

    the following are weapons-to-be, when i find the appropriate elemental dmg type weapon. will use exceptional crafted for now..

    0 SSI (ssi is on suit), DI, hml, hsl, hla, (slayer or hit lightning)

    radiant scimmy:
    0 ssi (ssi is on suit), DI, hml, hsl, hla, (slayer or hit lightning)

    0 ssi (ssi is on suit), UBWS, DI, hml, hsl, hla

    suit features:
    100 di
    33 or 38 DCI depending if i use ranger aug cloak or quiver
    43 hci
    40 lmc
    100 lrc
    70s resists
    50 ssi
    vampire+curse weapon leeches
    'immune' from faction changes, ill lose 10 DI from M&S when i have to switch to normal ones and can make up for it on the weapons
    +19 str=119
    150 dex, 182 sta
    25 int+18 mana=43 mana


    i would like my dci to be much higher to prevent damage, but given that ill have dual leeching perhaps its not so bad?

    i have no MR at all, so if i croak ill have a meditable 'spare suit' with MR1 and LRC on it i can swap to get mana to recast vampire


    i dont have access to runics or a legendary smith on sonoma. so nice stuff like runic red dragon armor will have to come later. obviously one or two high fire resist pieces would give me tons more freedom with my imbues.


    * on a spirit speak sampire with no fc, is it best to run in protection? or unecessary? if i run in prot, i would ditch 6 mana on one imbue for a physical resist imbue.

    * is 43 (37 if i run in protection) mana enough with 40 LMC and 1st mana discount?

    * is my dci (33 or 38) too low, given that i can dual leech at any time?

    * should i go for HLA or Hit Lightning on my ornate? it seems if Ornate is for attacking soft-hitters, then I wouldnt have to worry about HLA and should go Hit Lightning for maximum damage output?

    Am using
    120 swords
    120 archery
    120 bushido
    100 tactics
    100 necro
    90 SS (would boost it to 100 if i could)
    70 Chiv

    LRC is trash, just carry two stacks of 50 necro regs, and 4 of pig iron and you'll be fine.

    Cold/physical damage is fine for area-killing weapons, but no good for 1v1 weapons because corpse skin raises Cold and Physical by 10.
    You'll want Fire, Poison and Energy (when appropriate) damage weapons.

    Healing is a complete waste. Really, you're leeching 70% of the damage you do. :p

    Always have protection on. Always. FCR could be helpful, but even with FC 2 you'll fizzle half the time, which effectively makes the FC 2 worthless anyway.

    You don't want to use an ornate axe for soft hitters anyway. Use a double axe and use double strike. It'll do more damage.

    I'd toss the cloak of death and get a conjurer's robe.

    You'll be happy to see swathes of enemies falling like wheat in your wake.
    ... once you learn how to use the template properly that is.

    miner, having played a similar template, is 37 mana with 40 LMC and 1st mana discount enough to do what I need, or will I need more?

    ... really just depends on how much you use specials.
    Seems like a decent level, you're really going to just have to test it out for yourself. It's highly variable based on how you play.
    Gut reaction says you'll be fine. Might actually be beneficial to trade 10 LMC for mana, but it's hard to speculate on that.

    A good way to estimate is find the mana cost of the spells and which spells you'll be casting regularly.
    Even simpler: how many special moves do you want to be able to use back-to-back?

    I'm assuming we don't need to worry about whirlwind as it should top me off.. but i should be able to chain WW.

    At a minimum I should also be able to AI/feint, LS, LS, AI/feint, LS, LS.. for a reasonable amount of time

    Well mana use over an extended period of time is almost entirely dependent on how quickly you regenerate (leech) it.
    Ok, it's a bit more complex than that, but still.

    Yea, mostly for my PvP dabbling purposes, but it helps a lot vs PvM peerless such as Slasher and the Stygian Dragon.
  9. I'm curious about what you are using the 90 SS for... wouldn't you do a LOT more damage if you changed that to 100 Anatomy? You don't carry many reagents, so I assume you aren't casting necro spells much. Also, I've had no problems with dropping my Chiv to 61, just a few more fails at EOO (which I seldom use... would rather use a slayer).

    im not sure why but dropping gm anat to joat anat is a difference of like 6 DPS. check it out on the stratics calc


    i think the hidden part of this is that anat is part of the base dmg, so while the calc shows 6 dps, that amount can be magnified by slayers, eoo, di, etc

    Er... 100 of each reg and 200 isnt many? I could carry more, but that'd be a waste.
    I would do significantly more with anatomy, yes, but not a "LOT" more.
    Curse weapon: leech back 50% of damage as health. Add this to Vampiric Embrace, I'm getting 70% of my damage back.
    Corpse Skin is severely underused by people. With this one spell I often exceed the damage I would have gotten from Anatomy.
    Often cast Divine Fury, no good if I'm low on stamina and fizzle that spell 5 times. Also, being able to switch between EoO targets on the fly is very conducive to survival.
    Also like having the option of rezing people.
    With Wraith form I use a composite bow and AI the Slasher every single hit.

    Basically Anatomy is terribly weak compared to SS if you know how to use it properly.
  13. Okay, I was confused by your original wording, thinking you were carrying only 100 + 4 total reagents:
    But your points about Corpse Skin and Curse Weapon are very good points. It just takes away from your chivalry's effectiveness if you use necro spells (negative karma). I haven't used those in a long time on my sampire, so I don't have a recent knowledge for comparison.

    We are on the same shard... maybe swap weapons to compare damage with your techniques?


    It depends on which weapon and your stats. For a Rune Blade with 30 SSI, 125 STR and 150 Stamina, it adds 8-10 DPS for base damage and as Miner pointed out can be 3x that amount with a slayer - 24 to 30 DPS for GM anatomy. Nothing to sneeze at in my opinion.

    The Karma effect on Chivalry is over-emphasized. It's really not bad.

    Well my best char is currently on Great Lakes. If that's where you are, then sure.

    I've got a necro-sammy with SS, might just swap out parry for archery...
    not sure what for other than pvp fun!
  16. It's pretty bad on the timers for Consecrate Weapon and EOO... CW lasts 20 seconds for highest karma, and I seem to recall about 3 seconds for low karma. But I don't think you are using those spells with your build.

    This is an interesting template. Its basically what i originally tried with my sampire, but it didn't work out so well for me. Main thing i was lacking tho was a poison / fire weapon, which is obviously key because corpse skin basically replaces consecrate weapon. Thinking about burning some low level runics to get one in swords ( wish a war axe i had was a double)

    Id like to know how this template compares to the "basic" sampire temp. I see Navery destroying me when im webbed, without having max dci or parry, but would archery make up for this? I basically use my sampire when im not playing with others, is this template mainly a "solo" one?

    Archery's pretty optional, and takes a while to get used to. Can easily swap it for Anatomy or Resist or whatever. Used to have Spellweaving which was great.

    You know situations that require whirlwind result in positive karma, not negative.

    i plan on running with anat and SS most of the time, though anat can be switched for resist or parry.

    and ss can be switched out for healing. should i desire, i could drop the ss/heal slot to 90 and up chiv to 71 like miner to reduce chiv fizzles.

    should be a good modular template, adaptable to many situations.

    i found a nice 50 fire/poison ornate, just need to find more weaps like that now.

    is it worth going a smidge higher in necro to have reliable Strangles and Revenants?

    This isn't really gonna be a PVP char but I mean, Sampires are found wandering Fel. Just jonesing for how fun it would be to sick a rev on someone, strangle stealthers and mages etc...

    I did it on TC1 it was quite fun watching people fumble for that dispell hotkey.

    I mean with 99 necro and 100 SS I'm almost there.

    I could put +15 skill on a bracer or ring..

    Anyone know at what skill level those 2 spells stop fizzling?

    making some tweaks in my suit for my future casting sampire..

    which is better, 45 dci/40 hci? or 43 dci/43 hci

    (difference between conj garb and cloak of death)
  24. So minor I doubt it makes much difference, but as you can LS (50 HCI non stacking) I'd say go with 45 DCI/40 HCI.

    GM anatomy adds about 10-15 DPS. I personally would spend the 100 skill points on something else.

    And I dont know how you guys run with that low of mana. I have 2 sampires. One I can AI 5-8 times in a row the other (which has a much better suit) can AI between 7 - 12 times in a row. Granted it depends on the leech RNG. Niether one of them have less than 80 mana.

    I think I have a more workable suit. I’m giving up on red dragon armor. Although I was able to create some really nice 32 fire resist pieces, what I didn’t account for was it would take up so much weight I wouldn’t be able to imbue high intensities of other stuff.

    With that said, I’m back to using leather on my human female sampire. It’s mediable which will be nice after a death for recovery purposes. And yes there is always the possibility at some time in the future I do a race change to elf and go for the uber wood armor and +20 mana. But for now let’s just keep this to helping me decide if this is a good enough suit build to actually make.

    The suit will have the following mods:

    0 HP bonus*
    21 Mana bonus*
    40 STA bonus
    11 STR bonus
    21 Dex bonus
    10 Int bonus
    85 phys, 95 fire, 70 cold, 70 poison, 66 energy*****
    100 DI
    35 SSI
    45 DCI
    30 HLD
    40 HCI
    2 HPR, 4 MR
    100 LRC*
    35 LMC
    +15 Tactics skill
    +5 Necro skill

    *The noted items are because I have not yet decided between more hp/mana bonuses or the ease of use LRC. I am going to leave 20 LRC as my last mod and run with regs for a while. If I get use to running regs I will imbue hp and higher mana bonuses. If I prefer LRC I will imbue 20 LRC per piece.

    *****I was ok with either cold or energy being a tad under cap. Did not want phys, poison, or fire undercap. I favor cold being a little lower, but I'd have to remake leather pieces to get that.

    Head: Fac M&S (can’t find non fac for sale)
    Neck: 8 sta, 19 fire, 16 cold, 20 lrc*, 7 lmc
    Arms: 7 mana increase, 8 sta increase, 19 fire, 20 lrc*, 7 lmc
    Chest: 7 mana increase, 8 sta increase, 17 physical, 20 lrc*, 7 lmc

    Talisman: Faction Primer, can switch to conjurer’s trinket if necessary
    Apron/waist: Tangle****
    Weapon: 45 DI, 30 SSI
    Back: Quiver of infinity
    Robe: Conjurer’s Garb

    **I couldn’t find a useful mod for this bracelet. Choices were 3 in either int or str, 7 resist, or 5 to a skill. Since I’m interested in having 120 necro so I don’t fizzle on revenant I thought 5 necro could be useful here, but I’m open to suggestons.

    ****I went with tangle so I could have 45 dci. Otherwise I couldn't find a way to fit it.

    Proposed spec – keep in mind my acct is only 1 YR old, thus 705 skill pt limitation:

    120 sword/bush
    105 tac (90 trained, + 15 ring)
    100 anat or resist (swappable)
    120 necro** (115 trained, 5 from bracelet)
    70 chiv
    90 ss

    My vitals would be:
    186 sta (125 dex, 21 dex bonus, 40 sta bonus)
    131 str (120 str, 11 str bonus)
    41 mana (10 int, 10 int bonus, 21 mana bonus)***

    ***Obviously I could lower str 10 pts to bump mana to 51 if I needed to. Waiting to see how the LMC plays out first.

    So this is the closest I’ve come so far to completing this casting sampire. She’d run in protection and never get interrupted. She'd be able to curse weapon, raise skeletal dragons, pain spike finisher, evil omen, corpse skin...

    Focus is PVM but occasionally I might be in fel and get attacked and have to get away. I think the tools I'd have vs mages (revenant) or melee (counter attack>disarm, 70% leeching) would be enough...

    I made some of the leather last night but haven’t imbued, wanted to run it past you all first. All I need to make this happen is a Tangle. Have a faction crimmy for now.

    any comments on proposed build y'all? ive been crafting the crud out of leather, managed to come up with an 85/95/70/70/66 suit using only 6 resist imbues.

    pretty much itching to get working on this... even if it's not 'perfect'.. it will be light years better than what i have now. so just lookin for any last minute suggestions before i go for it and start pofing... thanks

    thought you'd like to hear this miner...

    just finished imbuing the casting necro warrior suit. didn't imbue the 8 dex nor the 5 necro on the ring/bracelet. waiting til i get a tangle, and decide that I want 120 necro before I do those.

    decided i was going to try the ultimate test... GD

    but now I have 10 all new icons/abilities I need to figure out how to streamline and add to the mix. this was all very... clumsy at best. Like a drunken Chris Farley doing a ballet

    edit: missed honor and toe to toe killed 2 reptalons on me right after this... and a para balron. umm whats next
