Well they were useless at the price of 3.3 blackrock per, but now they may have made them too available.

Oh well, better to have content that we can actually use than content we can't use.

What in the hell is this crap!

So the people that spent all the time at the event collecting to turn in for potions are screwed now?

Who came up with this idea? What would be the point of participation in the event anymore?

Hey work hours for potions during event or buy them for cheap from NPC after the event? Which one would you freaking pick if they let you know ahead of time?

Mother F&#$er, F*&ing Dev (This is the first time I ever used these type of language in UHall) I spent way too many hours to try to get the ring that never dropped and now my potions are easily obtainable.

    I AM SO F*&ing MAD!

You should have been doing it for fun, thats kind of the point, not for super 1337 stuff. If you weren't having a good time you shouldn't have been doing it. And if you were having a good time then there really isn't a problem. I had little time to much so I'm glad I can get the potions.

I don't see why the dev team didn't just make it buyable to start with. Not that people wasted their time and energy.
I just don't understand our current dev team at all.

I play the game for entertainment and have fun stuff to play with. I spent my free time so I can use said items later.

If you spent hours and hours farming for items and then Dev started giving those items away for free how would you freaking feel?

I don't mind if they did this to begin because then I wouldn't have spent time (which I am F&**ing paying for) collecting those items.

F U DEV I bet you don't comment on this issue at all you cowards!!

Ya maybe the fun for him was putting in the work to get the items. If you make it so people can simply buy something that someone else worked for of course they are going to be upset. Don't be a troll.

The freaking Ophidian NPCs doubles stock when it restocks.

So within 1 hour of waiting you will have more potions just from buying when compared to weeks of farming.

    HOW IS THAT BALANCED?

YOU have S*& for brains DEV

You need 2500 loyalty to trade with them right? Go kill Bane over at Spirituality Gate in Ilshenar. This should continue to raise your loyalty to them to them.

I'm a little disappointed they didn't turn out to be rares, but that's the nature of the game, not everything does or stays such. I went to check on the bane camp right next to Spirituality Ilshenar, and you can get the Bane Dragon food for 20 Power Wotsits still, so the stew is largely worthless too. Oh well. I shan't be killing Meer for them, as I like the benefits of positive karma... I'll just wander off to Castle Blackthorn instead!

I wouldn't have wanted the potions to be "rare" but seriously there was NO consideration for the people who actually put the time and effort into collecting the blackrock, killing the bane, getting the loyalty and doing the actual quest. If it were going to be "for sale" the dev team should have said so up front so time and effort could have been put into something else.

There has never been instance where items from event could be purchased from npc after the particular phase of ongoing world event.

If you are going to do this please just sell everything in game on NPC.

Blackrock stew are not sold on NPC, it still require turning in 20 items. The lack of consistency is complete BS.

I don't care if an item is useless. I spent time and collected items because I know some of my friends (currently playing and returning later) would want some just for kicks.

I don't care if the items are worthless because I do not sell those items for profit. Ask anyone that know me, I hate selling stuff.

I DO care about my time spent. Its my life and time and time again the Dev keep making me feel ******** for spending time in this game.

The devs quite often make certain quest items or artifacts more readily obtainable after a period of time. (7th AE artifacts, Treasures of Tokuno, Soulstones, etc.)
When they do, people who thought that the items would stay rare tend to get mad.

    It's a very typical cycle.

Does this justify the Dev's actions? No.
They should have at the bare minimum announced this change before-hand.

That being said, if you've played UO for a while I'm surprised that you haven't noticed this trend.
And they never explicitly or implicitly said that these items would be obtainable no other way. You assumed it.

Better communication would help things, but I'm still glad that they're willing to fix their terribly broken systems (10 blackrock for 3 potions is absurd from any perspective)

  20. there meant to be used not collected.

    you can still collect them.

Oh wait your talking about gold value not collecting.

People here is a tip. Buy them now. Sell them for 10k each later.

It will add up and then go buy something rare. Everyone wins.

Its NOT ABOUT GOLD! or VALUE!

It is about TIME SPENT. I spent the whole event time collecting stuff and now someone can buy all the pots they want in couple hours.

How do you compare weeks of farming to 1-2 hours of camping an NPC?

Its almost like all those people that camped iphone and paid the top price. Then Apple slapped their loyal supporter in the face then lower the price just a week after. (Even in real life it leaves a bad taste in people's mouth)

I mean it is not hard to understand the concept. If they just kept the quest in game then I would be fine with it. Why? because the person would need to farm as well to get the potions and not just spend a lousy 1.2k on each potion.

Why would you think any of these complaints had to do with gold value?

People just want other people to have to work just as hard for the same rewards.
It would be like the devs adding a new skill to the game ... umm house painting... and it took a couple of weeks to work up house painting to GM, then the next publish without any warning the GM crew makes everyone able to buy up house painting to GM.
This is why people are upset. Not because other people can now paint houses (get the potions), but rather that house painting (getting potions) is just being handed out to people for nothing.

Ever heard of the story of the grasshopper and the hard working ant?

Well in the case of these potions, the ants collected and worked hard just like in the story while the grasshopper just did nothing.

At the end of the story the grasshopper has nothing down the road. The version written by Mytic Developers has a magic gnome pop up at the end of the story and say grasshopper here's a magic bag and just get as many as you want.

    Orrrrr

Have you guys seen that commercial where the first girl get a pony figurine and the second girl gets a real pony?

Now would Devs understand or care about this? I guess not. Since Devs don't care, I want a NPC selling all the event items for 1k each.

How long did it take you to get the soulstone? Did you turn in a bunch of items to get soulstones? NO!

They gave out soulstones for free then started to charge for them to me it is the reverse of the current situation. How can you not understand this?

I am venting because apparently no one understand the issue and are just throwing out irrelevant reference/previous example.

Let me use myself and NBG as examples.

NBG here spent days/weeks working to get the blackrock to complete the quests to stock up on these potions. He isn't selling them or anything, this is for himself and his friends to use.

I did other fun things in UO during this time. I worked characters, PvP'd, did spawns, peerless, Navrey, Slasher. I collected on the ground stealables and did many other things.

Today I have just as many potions (if not more) as NBG does. NBG wasted his time when he could have been doing other things like I was. This is why he is upset.

I should have missed out on these items,
or if still obtainable I should have to work just as hard as he did in order to have them.

If you still are having trouble understanding then there's not much else anyone can do to explain it.

I think I see both sides of this.
It's the old story of something being hard to get, or in limited numbers, and then having its availability massively increased.

    Doom Artifacts.
    Treasures of Tokuno.
    Duping.
    Exploits.

When something that was difficult for a person to acquire is handed out like candy, there's bound to be some bitterness.
    It's normal, and natural.
Consumables should have greater availability than they originally did, or they end up like the tar potion, which no one even knew what it did.
But, the devs shouldn't have done it like this.
They went from an equivalent price of 500,000 for three (going by CBR value on Europa), to 3,813 for the same number.

So. yeah, damn right these people should be pissed.
With the exception of the loyalty requirement, I can go and kill a couple of trogs, and then accomplish what they would have worked their arses off for a matter of hours earlier.

If there was ever intent to make them easier to obtain it would have softened the blow to have announced it when the change was decided (which should have been rather early in the event I'd think).

Lately they've just been ninjaing in changes all stealth-like. You do this and people WILL get pissed off.

If you say a week or so into the event "hey we've decided we want these potions to be used and more easily obtained so in a future publish we are just going to make them buyable or craftable" it would have been much more fair.

PS Yes my grammar blows and I invented the word "ninjaing" so sue me.

NBG you seem way too upset over this. What was the endgame you had in mind? Farm up these in epic proportions, and then assume they would be gone for good once this part of the event was done, then sell at an absurd price to make a ridiculous profit?

Doom artifact and ToT still require you to killing and work at getting the items so I am sorry to say this but its not a proper reference.

This is closer to exploit/duping (Heck I think its even easier)
Even dupers and exploiter has to work at getting their item

In this case, you just get the rep then go buy from npc like resources.

So when you compare Doom and ToT to this new NPC selling BS, does any NPC selling doom arties or ToT when they incrased drop rate/re release an event?

I am all for making things easier to get over time.... as the new wears off. I would have expected ML mats to have made it into t-chests by now for example.

But my jaw dropped on this one. On the very next publish no doubt. This is too rediculous. Why would I want to waste time doing any new content knowing we have devs at the helm pulling stunts like this? So what's the next publish? Pardon's from npc red healers @500gps each?

If you know me, you would know that I rarely sell stuff. When I do sell items, I sell to friends for really low price or its free (I have stated this already in previous responses.

I am not in it for the epic GOLD. I like to grind events and supply friends and sometime strangers with extra items later on.

First off NBG rarely if ever sells anything , He is mad because like Flutter said he wasted weeks doing the event to collect the potions for guild/friend for when the event happen to stop.. So while we were all out spawning etc making new chars , and other fun stuff he spent that time now for nothing gathering and solo the spawn to get the potions. for everyone now to be able to buy ..

I agree with NBG on this the Devs should thought about all the people who worked hard to gather and now anyone can just walk up and get it

It wasn't intended to be a reference, so much as an example that the same sort of thing has happened elsewhere, and people have been pissed off whenever it happens.
It's about investment. Time, money, effort... The effect is still the same - those that invested the greater amount in an item feel shafted when the item is devalued.

Like I've said the current dev team has no clue about collecting, marketing,or even feeling good about time putting in a game. those that knew how UO works like DRACONI are gone. These new Dev are pure fps PVP and maybe mixed with pure RP players that came from making games like unreal tournament and doom.

I find this stupid as hell imo.. my friend did the opposite side I was fighting for the very purpose of getting us the pots.. with wasting blackrock to get it.. now granted yes the rock falls on the corpses it still has another purpose for imbuing etc.. had I known you could just run up to the npc and buy it without wasting blackrock I would of told him to wait.. if they are doing this for pots why arn't we getting the same deal for damn stew then.? Seeing how it takes 1 to start the bonding process.. then another to bond it.. thats what 20 rock per? Let alone to keep the thing happy you need to use the stew.. so hell if they are gonna do that side give us the stew and let me save my blackrock for other things.

To be fair, the crystalline blackrock wasn't exactly hard to get. And neither are power crystals.

I would guess they're a similar drop rate, perhaps dropping more frequently than crystalline blackrock did. This would compensate for the necessary consumption of the stew by bane dragons at *least* twice (as opposed to the potions, which definately aren't necessary).

I would only be annoyed in so much as I wasted about 30 crystalline blackrock on the potions. But I did manage to save a fair bit of it and, like I said, it wasn't as though it was particularly challenging to get when it was available.

Well my point really was that the rock has more uses then just turning it in for the pots/ stew.. it's used for mage armour (cloth) and for skill on a brace/ring.. I'm rather a horder of the stuff because before the event I didn't have very much of it.. I can't see mining 20 years to get a few.. or going to the cavern to get a whole 2 pieces.. I don't use the rock for resell purposes.. I use it to imbue items for my friend or for myself...so what I'm saying is I'd rather Not have to use the stuff for things other then imbuing.. but I wanted the pots and I wanted the stew.. so I shelled it out.. now only to see I coulda saved it and bought it with gold instead so it's rather irritating...and before anyone says "noone twisted your arm into turning it in for the pot/stew" ya ok your right.. however it wasn't stated that we would be able to obtain these items in any other fashion.. except later on down the line something possibly regarding the stew..but I'm not holding my breath on that one.

To be fair..it really is beside the point on how easy the blackrock is to get..that kinda is NOT the point really. If you had read the post above yours you might have gotten the point. Basically if i had known the Devs were gonna come up with this bullsh!t then i would have saved the crystalline blackrock for imbuing purposes instead of using it to get potions. Thanks Dev for allowing me to waste MY ingredients on an item that would be obtainable later.

Another thing I'd like to know but im not holding my breath out for any reply from Devs is - is the stew obtainable through the Bane guys to purchase like the potions are???? And IF NOT..WHY? Thats kinda not fair imo to make one this way and not the other..when the other is used way more and needed way more than the potions.

I think its awesome that your getting the cloth from the chest..then you can save the rock for solely imbuing purposes. Hopefully i'll grab some cloth as well from some chest i'll be doing over the weekend. More i can save my rock the better so i understand the point Spellywellyboo makes

For some of the players out there, it was exceptionally easy to get. Especially those of you on Europa who spammed earthquake and script-looted all the blackrock at the peak of interest, ensuring virtually no one else got any during each run through of the event. Quite frankly, I think the dev's screwed up on the initial design, and didn't realise just how greedy and selfish some players would be, and I'm glad they've hit the big red reset button since... if there hadn't been a different way to get Stew and Potions after the fact, only the obsessives and cheaters would have stood a chance to own any. However...

... that is completely your own fault. Cal has hinted numerous times here on Stratics that there would be a way to feed the Bane Dragons after the event ends. If you're really that serious about debating effort put in, why haven't you put the effort in to locate information about event structures. And before you say "That's on stratics, why should I read every post on Stratics?!"...

You mean you haven't even bothered to go as far as Ilshenar Sacrifice gate and look at the new bane camp? As others have pointed out, 20 Power Crystals will get you a new stew... and you can get them without even killing a Meer and taking the Karma hit, by killing Blackthorn/Exodus minions instead. They'll drop every time on some of those too...

And a little common sense should have indicated the Recruiter rewards weren't going to be limited editions anyway; the Blackrock stew of course is the only known food of one of the best 3 slot pets in game, which meant the pets would all eventually starve to death if it didn't constantly spawn, and the potions in turn are PvP expendables.

Which raises an interesting wider point; The stew incidentally isn't even that important for PvE. Bane Dragons will bond, and be Wonderfully Happy from Tasty Treats too, and those spawn in treasure chests now. The poison blast it actually recharges won't often be fired from distance at all against NPC mobs as they always close to melee range; it's more a PvP bonus for those who are trying to kill the dancing around players. So too for PvPers are the potions... so it seems the side focus of the event so far has been giving shinies to the PvP crowd, not the rares collector.

No, the rare collector's reward came from the chests at the end of the fight, and as those are not longer (as far as I've read so far) dropping (the chests and fight mechanism no longer being there), if you hung onto them and not the consumables, you'll not have actually wasted your time. And unlike the blackrock, it was one chance per participant, not "script and ye shall receive". A lot of the events recently have been like that, come to think of it... so maybe, hopefully the dev's have finally started learning after all!

They never have a think tank on the effect of what they do. They could of added a 0 on all the pots in game then next server up added in the NPC. Really falls back to them having no clue over a 5 min check if the code works. Then on to the next project to hear more cries they do nothing. It is a gold sink and I like it for that reason. Now DEVs put dull copper on the NPCs already.

Have to check back threads to see if anyone was upset for buying a Monk's Robe for a few hundred K at the bank and not for a few gold from the NPC. What makes UO great that it follows the "life is not fair" rule set.

How could it be a gold sink? thats not realistic price on the vender. In order for it to be a gold sink those potions need to be worth over 100k-500k each on the vender. It's like saying Selling dul runic on a vender for 1 gold is a gold sink. When almost every player can get over 1k a sec in places like the trog caves.

Besides this mind set is not good for that make a no drop no trade system remove player venders, remove crafting, resources gathering skills and any skill that has nothing to do with PVP also trammel and towns if they have nothing to do with factions and place everything in the game on npc venders for 1k. Then add the ability to jump some guns and some 3d level design and now we got a true fps game. Ultima Online (FPS version)

Um how is this HIS fault? Did you bother reading his post.? He was taking about the Potions Not the Stew in that statement. It's already been stated that we knew possibly there would be another way to feed the bane dragons..but was there a post stating another way to get the pots later.? Nope there wasn't... And some of us would like to bond our dragons before 2020 too.. when the dev team says "later on another method can be used to bond them" who knows how long that takes.. given anything else on this game could of been next year.. noone was even aware tasty treats bonded the thing till someone was nice enough to post it a few days later.. after many had bought stew already.

Seeing how the patch JUST came out for this No.. we didn't go check the other spawn yet.

Common sense eh.? Well common sense tells me that if they are going to release a reward which you must earn.. they should keep it that way.. not turn it around later on and say hey for 1.5k you can buy these! That's the reason Big Wang and I were annoyed.. because we wasted imbuing materials and time only to find out we could of just waited and saved our ingredients... but guess we don't have common sense. rolleyes: Some of us don't have 24 hrs a day to farm blackrock.. and before this event and tmap changes the rock wasnt that easy to come by..possibly now thanks to the changes in the tmaps it will be a bit easier.

Ok..you entirely missed my point of my post so i'll take the time to point it out again..maybe second time around you'll get it....

I never once stated i was debating anything so where you got this notion is beyond me..maybe pulled it outta your wittle magic hat. As far as another way to obtain the stew..i was aware of that upon the first announcement of it..but not until the publish was it known the power crystals could also get the stew. Have i tried this yet? no..read on and you'll figure out why i've been to busy to test this yet.

Not yet I haven't investigated every new thing that has come out with the publish..I've been too busy getting all the cool new drops from treasure chest :D.

(it is a good alternative to turn in power crystals instead of the rock bc quite frankly their worthless to me - power crystals that is, god forbid that statement be taken out of context.)

K now to my point of original post..watch it, dont let it go over your head this time amigo :) ....

my post asked why not make stew available same as the potions..why not keep it balanced on both sides? So once again.. why not keep things on same level..if you can obtain one item from this event buy purchasing with gold off an NPC, why not be able to obtain all items buy purchasing with gold from NPC?

And tasty treats will bond the dragon but upon "All Kill" you will see the words every time that "your pet isn't up to full power blahblah BS" and i prefer not to see that.

I will give Devs props on the treasure chest, I am liking the new additions as well as the elimination of all those scrolls in chest.

  50. NBG, how many of the potions have you used since the event, if not hoarding? i'm pretty sure the devs stated that the potions and stew would be available after the event arc and be easier to obtain to the loyalists.

i still think the pots are a bit expensive for pvp purposes, due to that they aren't 100% effective. i did the turn in a few times and was underwelmed with their performance in pvp, and waited for them to get cheaper.
