See George Hephaestus, the Blacksmith Instructor, at the Forge And Anvil in New Haven. The New Player Quest entitled It's Hammer Time! will allow a character to train Blacksmithing to 50 (and get the sweet reward, Hammer of Hephaestus). The New Player Quests use accelerated skillgain.

    * 47.5 - 53.0: Kryss
    * 53.0 - 57.5: War Axe
    * 57.5 - 59.5: Katana
    * 59.5 - 70.5: Spear
    * 70.5 - 106.4: Platemail Gorget (Note: Gains are tremendously slow from here on out. It may help to switch from the Platemail Gorget to the Platemail Gloves every now and then.)
    * 106.4 - 108.9: Platemail Gloves
    * 108.9 - 116.3: Platemail Arms
    * 116.3 - 118.8: Platemail Legs
    * 118.8 - 120: Platemail Tunics

    * It takes about five days of non-stop game play and over 100,000 ingots to gain 120 Blacksmithy skill points using this technique, so take a break from time to time. You're not a machine! Items produced during training are smelted, or recycled, into ingots for further training.
    * Mining of over 50.0 will help cut costs a lot because it allows you to smelt and mine your own ore. Higher levels of mining also increase your return when salvaging.
    * Using a Salvage Bag is absolutely crucial, as it both speeds up recycling (recycling everything inside within a second) as well as giving one extra ingot per item recycled, which can represent a monumental return on items that only take a few ingots to make in the first place.
    * A modicum of Tinkering will allow you to craft your own Blacksmithy tools.

Using a power scroll to increase your Blacksmithing skill early in your progression can improve your 'rate of return' when salvaging items by extending the range at which you can gain skill on any individual item. Normally, your skill gain ceases at the point where your chance to create the item reaches 100%, which corresponds to 50 points above the minimum skill needed to create the item. If X is that skill level, then this point is (X + 50). The power scrolls raise this cap in direct correlation to their strength. Thus, a 105 power scroll rases the cap to 105% (X + 52.5); a 110 scroll to 110% (X + 55); a 115 scroll to 115% (X + 57.5); and a 120 scroll to 120% (X + 60).

Thus, if your character has used a Legendary Scroll of Blacksmithy early in their career (and if you have the expansions installed), you may instead consider this alternate progression chart designed to maximize your skill return per ingot:

    * 47.5 - 75.0: Kryss
    * 75.1 - 89.9: Shuriken (requires the Samurai Empire expansion)
    * 90.0 - 100: Circlet (requires the Mondain's Legacy expansion)
    * 100.1 - 120: Royal Circlet (requires the Mondain's Legacy expansion)

Angelicas Keg, Bod Filler and Heartwood quick setup

Angelicas Keg, Bod Filler and Heartwood quick setup.

I do not take credit for being the first to know how to do this. I figured I would share it since I'm sure many people don't know.

(On the Uoassist screen do not mind in the pictures where it switches between macro 1 and 2 on the bottom part. Thats just me showing you how to set it up. This is all for one macro)

First you must have UOassist. Go to the macros tab and select which ever macro number you wish to use 1-16 (its important to chose a number and ill show you why at the end)

Now hit record. Go to your UO screen (This is setup to make ten potions with one key stroke)

-Before hitting record make sure you create the potion/armor/weapon/clothing/Bow type your trying to make. Now double click the Mortar/Smith Hammer/Tailor/Bow/Tinker (DON'T USE LAST OBJECT) and click make last.

-Double click the Mortar/Smith Hammer/Tailor/Bow/Tinker tool and click make last (DON'T USE THE MAKE LAST WITHOUT RE-OPENING THE MORTAR/SMITH HAMMER/ TAILOR ETC TOOL MENU)

-Repeat this Ten times (So it makes Ten potions/armor/bows etc.)

Now go to your Uoassist and hit stop. The only things that should be in the command box at this time is

    Use Item
    Menu Selection
    Use Item
    Menu Selection
    Use Item
    Menu Selection
    Use Item
    Menu Selection
    Use Item
    Menu Selection
    Use Item
    Menu Selection
    Use Item
    Menu Selection
    Use Item
    Menu Selection
    Use Item
    Menu Selection

(If there is anything else in there highlight it and hit delete. If its really messed up hit record and re-do it.)

Now we still setup the pause which you must have or the client and server wont read what your macro is doing. Its like someone counting to 100 in 1sec.

We will enter a pause. After Each Menu Selection will be a pause.

    -Highlight Menu selection (left click)
-Click Pause After and put in 2000
    -Hit okay.

Repeat this under every Menu selection even the very last one. Your entire macro should end with Pause After 2000.

So now your macro will look like this.

    Use Item
    Menu Selection
    Pause 2000
    Use Item
    Menu Selection
    Pause 2000
    Use Item
    Menu Selection
    Pause 2000
    Use Item
    Menu Selection
    Pause 2000
    Use Item
    Menu Selection
    Pause 2000
    Use Item
    Menu Selection
    Pause 2000
    Use Item
    Menu Selection
    Pause 2000
    Use Item
    Menu Selection
    Pause 2000
    Use Item
    Menu Selection
    Pause 2000

(If you have a pause in the wrong area don't worry. Just delete the pause and remake it.)

Now we all know those pesky things break and you would have to reset the WHOLE macro if the tool broke. Here is the way to never ever ever ever ever have to re-setup the macro.

    -Highlight the Use Item
    -Right Click Use Item
    -Click Use Item Type

(With this option put in it will use ANY Mortar/Smith Hammer/Tailor/Bow/Tinker Tool in your bag even if it breaks it will use the next one in your bag.)

Now your macro should look exactly like this.

    Use Item Type
    Menu Selection
    Pause 2000
    Use Item Type
    Menu Selection
    Pause 2000
    Use Item Type
    Menu Selection
    Pause 2000
    Use Item Type
    Menu Selection
    Pause 2000
    Use Item Type
    Menu Selection
    Pause 2000
    Use Item Type
    Menu Selection
    Pause 2000
    Use Item Type
    Menu Selection
    Pause 2000
    Use Item Type
    Menu Selection
    Pause 2000
    Use Item Type
    Menu Selection
    Pause 2000

The only thing you need to setup each time for the macro is if you want to make a different type of potion/weapon/armor etc. This is very very very difficult so please pay close attention.

Double click your Mortar click Greater cure or what not and hit Make Last. hehe yes very hard. That sets up the type of potion your are making.

    NOW THIS IS IMPORTANT!!!!

On the macro you have selected you see that little lock button like a locker lock? Click that!!! Because all you have to do is accidentally hit record and the entire macro is gone. With this checked you cannot record over the macro.

For those who want to make more then ten potions at a time. Simple just set the macro and setup the macro to make:

    5,10,15,20,25,30,35,40,45,50,55,60,65 (Max)

    So I setup two macros.

    F11 & F12
One makes 65 and the other makes 35 which is one keg

In case I fail four or five times I have
    F1 to make 5
    F2 to make 10
    F3 to make 20

For those filling Smith bods or Heart Wood Quest

(Since you have to make the item once before hitting the macro setup your macros to make 9items 14items or 19items. What i do is set my 9 items to F1 14 to F2 and 19 to F3 so if I get a 20 plate helm bod I open the tool click the Plate helm then hit F3 which makes 19 and plus the 1 I already made =20)

I would however suggest for Deadly Poison to have a smaller macro setup. Or anything you may fail allot in. You can also use this for training.

Hope it works out for you!!!

    Gareths Naturalist Quest Walk Through

    Naturalist Quest

Some have been asking how to obtain the Pink, Aqua, Fire and purple seeds. I have gone through and done step by step on how to do it. It may seem like allot but it really isn't. The runebook will be at the Blue Light Tavern. I suggest making a copy of the book for yourself. To go between the Hives and the BLT to use the book will take more time then you like.

So here is the order on how to do it.

    1. Go and see Emanuel inside of the Britain Public library. Talk to him and accept the quest.

    2. Pull out your rune book and select the rune North Solen Hive.

    3. You will not appear in the underground tunnel. So double click the black hole and you will drop down. Follow the Yellow line to reach the next Solen hive hole. Double click to drop down again.

    4. Now follow the yellow line to the first Solen hive. To study. You MUST stand still until you put your notes away.

    5. Do not leave until this appears on your screen.

    6. Now we will go to the next hive. Follow the Yellow line leading out of the Solen Egg Nest. WATCH OUT FOR THOSE PESKY PACK BEETLES!! They do hurt. You will come to another black hole. Double click to drop down.

    7. Now you are in the Queens Nest. Follow the yellow line around don't enter that first hole you see that is WRONG. Keep following until your at the bottom left corner and double click that hole.

    8. Now follow the yellow line to the next Solen Egg Nest. Make sure you stand still while taking the notes. If you move you will lose it and have to start over again.

    9. Now it is time to say goodbye to the holes for 5seconds. Open your runebook and hit East Solen Hive.

    10. Again you wont appear in the tunnel so double click the black hole again to drop down. Follow the yellow line to the next Solen Egg Nest.

    11. Once you have finished with your study open your runebook again the select West Solen Hive. Again you will not appear in the tunnel so double click the hole again.

    12. Follow the Yellow Brick...I mean Line again and study the next Hive.

    13. Now once your done it is time to claim your reward! Return back to the Naturalist and talk to him. You will randomly get a Fire, Pink, Aqua or Purple seed. More steps below)

    14. See you thought you were done. If you want to get a FIRE SEED. Grab a green thorn and shove it into the sand.

    15. A hole will appear so double click it.

    16. You will drop down. I forgot to do the yellow line hehe but only way you can run. Watch out for the ant Lion in the middle.

    17. Just like the other egg places stand still until you put your notes away.

    18. Now return to Britain and he will give you a fire seed. You must do the extra 5th one to ever get a fire seed which means don't return to him once you got all four done. You have to do the 5th one on the same quest.

Step 19 re-do all steps 1-18 and do it over and over and over again. Dont forget to plant your seeds and take care of them. Luna sells them for 5k each and Fire ones for 6k. So you can make about 3-4k per rare plant.

Bonzi plants are only gotten off of tokuno monsters. (Ronins and Ninjas do not drop these)
You can hunt on any of the islands for a chance to get a seed.

    New Plants
Below is a chart of what monsters drop the new plants. Also if you grow any poppies they have a poppy dust resource. This has 8 charges that will let you identify a seed before you grow it. This is useful for new plants since they don't give the name.

    SA Staining

    Staining

    You will need:

    1. Decorative plants.
    2. Clippers (craftable - Tinker menu under the Tools tab).
    3. Empty bottles.
    4. Wine (buy from NPCs).
    5. Silver serpent venom. There are two ways to get this,

    1. use 'snake charming' (snake charming flute made by a carpenter, no music skill needed to play it) take an empty vial (glassblowing) double click the vial, target the snake and 'milk it'.
    2. Kill the serpents, drop rate roughly 1:5.

    Step 1: Creating Pigments

You must first create pigments from plants which you can then mix into the final color you wish your dyes to be.

    1. Set clippers to clip plants on their context menu.
    2. Use clippers on plant to create plant clippings of that color - this consumes the entire plant.
    4. Use a skillet ( with cooking skill) or mortar (with alchemy skill) to transform the clippings into pigments (requires 1 empty bottle).

Once you've obtained that pigment bottle you can either transform that into usable dyes or mix the pigment with another pigment to try to create a new hue.
Simply double-click one pigment and target another that you wish to mix it with.

    Step 2: Mixing Dyes

Mixing the colors produces the same results as crossing colored plants, ie red + blue = purple, red + red = bright red etc.
In addition each colour can be mixed with white, to give ice red, ice blue etc and black to give dark red, dark blue etc.
Black + White = Ice Black, Black + Plain = Metal, White + Plain = Off White. The Naturalist colors, aqua, pink, magenta and fire red can not be mixed.

    Messages:
You decide not to waste pigments by mixing two identical colors.
You decide not to waste pigments by mixing variations of the same hue.
This pigment is too diluted to be faded further.
This pigment is saturated and cannot be mixed further.

    Step 3: Color Fixatives

Pigments must be mixed with color fixatives before they can be used to dye items. The fixative is craftable through cooking or alchemy and requires a bottle of wine and 1 vial of silver serpent venom.
    venom

    Step 4: The Natural Dye

Once you have mixed the pigment to the color you want and have a color fixative bottle in your bag, use your cooking or alchemy menu to transform your pigment into usable dyes. Each dye bottle has 5 uses.
Once made into dyes, you can no longer mix the colors.

The full range of natural dyes:

Top row: Aqua, magenta, Rare Pink, Fire, Black, White, Off White, Plain, Metal, Ice Black.

Second row: Ice Blue, Bright Blue, Blue, Dark Blue, Ice Purple, Bright Purple, Purple, Dark Purple.

Third Row: Ice Red, Bright Red, Red, Dark Red, Ice Green, Bright Green, Green, Dark Green.

Fourth Row: Ice Yellow, Bright Yellow, Yellow, Dark Yellow, Ice Orange, Bright Orange, Orange, Dark Orange.

A set of Stained Plate Tunics (with undyed tunic for comparison)

To remove color from a dyeable object - returning it to its default colour use scouring toxin, made by an alchemist from toxic venom sacs, which are loot on Toxic Slith [IMG] found in Tel'Mur

    SA Basket Weaving

    Basket Weaving

First you must learn how to make the baskets. To do this read the book, which can be purchased from tinker vendors in the Royal City.
    You will require:

    1. Decorative plants
    2. Clippers (craftable - Tinker menu under the Tools tab)
    3. Empty bottles
    4. Toxic venom sacs (from toxic slith)
    5. Wooden shafts (craft from wood using bowcrafting or buy from NPCs)

    Step 1:
Harvest dry reeds from decorative plants. Your basket will be the color of the plant selected.
Use the context menu on your clippers and choose the 'set to cut reeds' option, then use the clippers on the plant. The plant will be destroyed by this process.

    dryreeds

    Step 2:
Next the reeds must be softened using scouring toxins. Scouring toxins are made by alchemists from toxic venom sacs, which are looted from Toxic Sliths. The potion can be found under the 'poison' heading in the menu and requires one venom sac and one empty bottle.

Softened reeds can be created by either alchemists, who will find it under 'Earthen Mixtures' in their menu, or by tinkers, who will find it under 'wooden items' along with the various basket types. For each softened reed you will need two dry reeds and one scouring toxin.

    Dry Reeds & Scouring Toxin

    Step 3:
Finally, weave your basket. This will require wooden shafts and 1, 2 or 3 softened reeds, depending on basket style. Reed colors can not be mixed on a basket. Select the basket type you wish to craft from the Tinkering menu, under Wooden Items.
