Interesting post in UHall that had some people wondering if getting rid of factions almost completely and just implementing a form of chaos/order would be better for the community

No temp stat loss or faction armor
Guilds could elect to join chaos/order but not be forced into participating
Open fighting anywhere for those involved

Would this not level the playing field, encourage players to get involved (again no 20 minute stat loss) no silver farming to make suits and just simplify the situation or would it be a waste of time :)

    Discuss!!

Well I was excited when Mesanna mentioned it was one of the things they are considering.

If they do go there, and a big IF, I hope it is kept simple.

Anything that removes faction arties and Evil/Hero dyeing has my vote.

the question is will more people be willing to join the chaos/order. or will it just be the same people that are in factions now?

That's basically one guild declaring war on another guild...

Why would they ditch hero/evil? That is a unique Siege property. Once again, its also something that can prevent people from wearing the items that are dyed, thus forcing them to also join factions to use it. You wanna wear the cool kids gear, join one the clubs.

    I support this move.

    > It gives an entire shard, including non-guilded players, a chance to rally together on one side or the other. Also gives players in large guild's that are unable to move their entire guild into factions an option to jump on the battle-field without leaving their guild.

    > It will also connect the community as players will have something in common with one another that is outside of guild's and alliances or smaller faction groups.

    > Perhaps also the introduction of Chaos/Oder specific chat channels, areas, meeting hall etc. Chaos/Oder specific quests and challenges... leader boards.

    > There will be Chaos/Order member balancing issues I'm sure - but in the I think that will be overshadowed by the fact that those players who seek pvp will have more targets on shards like our own.

    > The Hero/Evil or Faction specific item strategy can also be maintained. Access to PvP related item perks needs to be a part of the system in my opinion. This allows progression of gear within PvP without forcing a PvP'er to have to "grind" or PvM ... If a PvP player can sustain his/herself (gold, equipement) purely by PvP related activities, quests, challenges and fights on the field.. I think we'll see a VAST increase in population.

    > Crafters should be given Chaos or Order specific recipes. Of PvP only recipes... so that only Chaos or Order participants can take use of the items. Of course these items would be PvP focused. A whiole new demand for items will be created for the crafters giving both them and the PvM players another motivation source.

    > Chaos / Order WIDE objectives and associated rewards. (that would be great for guilds as well)

    > I would like to see a "Bounty" system come back into play. Chaos or Order members can elect to post a Bounty for a players demise. Other members of the same order can add to the bounty in form of gold (or perhaps items). Oh, forget that ... Order guy logs in his Chaos guy and kills himself for a nice reward lol. Perhaps dying as a negative effect on your leader board standings, points.. something to discourage this.

In summary, simplifying the controlled PvP battleground to a war between Chaos and Order will (like general chat) bring the community even closer together and in my opinion is more representative of the UO theme and story-line.

We did a series of guild wars a couple of years ago. Set up different locations on a nightly basis. Had a loose light looting agreement in place with the idea of just getting people up and back in the fight rather than having to sit out 20 minutes and get regeared

The result was a pretty fun couple of hours of scraps every night without anyone buttsore about losing their faction gears arties, having to buy or farm silver or not getting crap sold back

If it doesn't add more players than just those in factions now then I guess what is the point. However, there is always the possibility that it could get people more involved just from a roleplay point of view. Like KSS or VAMP back in the day. Player towns or hubs to get raided or defended on a nightly basis.

I'm not really sure if Siege has the population to encourage players to be more visible or gather in open areas like taverns or towns more. But I am encouraged by seeing newer guilds joining Siege, recent players returning in some cases very old school Siege players making a return to the game.

Oh I loved O/C back in the day, I think it had a lot more reflection of the roots of UO. Although factions was fun at one point in the beginning, I hated the stat loss! Probably because I was in it too much, but it rained on my play time. Lol
*as a note, all past experiences were on another server, as I have yet to pvp since returning to UO, and starting on Siege*

its not gonna change the people that participate, we are in faction becasue we enjoy to fight each other elimenating factions its not gonna increase the players that get involved it might actually be a negitive impact on the players participating, factions give us a reason to fight each other for sigils, factions give us a reason to kill creatures for silver, factions have bases to defend/conquer,evil/hero system just makes it interesting

OHH and for those that currently not in faction arent gonna join a chaos /order system becasue its constent fighting just like faction most are to afraid to join faction because of this reason not becase of stat loss(stat loss what a stupid ass reason to not have factions by the time you get resuited and get ready to fight again your outta stat anyway). Stat loss creates an end to fights otherwise the guild with more people win everytime.

Ive been in faction since the beganing of factions, before faction arties before hero/evil system. I play factions because there is a point to fighting, not just to run around and kill people if i wanted to just kill people i would go red again. You guys are just looking at the faction arties aspect of it your all missing the reasons behind factions

Im just saying dont jump on the band wagon just because you dont understand the reasons behind it. If your issue is faction arties make that known dont make it all about factions when its just the arties that bothers you..

I was in factions for quite a while but left because of all the crying over sell backs in chat or on the forums, complaints about silver costs, ganks and the ever popular pvm pvp. You don't seem to understand that these are some of the main reasons that people left factions or just don't join at all. People aren't scared of factions...alot are just turned off by the childish behavior exhibited by some that play factions. I liked defending the sigils back when factions was semi busy. Hated to farm silver but liked to hunt down the afk silver farmers. But again thats when factions also had 3 or 4 pretty decent and active faction guilds/alliances (not the one or two now) I just see the order/chaos system as something that more people could gain interest in. Not just those interested in Luna fighting and faction artifacts. Factions seem to have lost their flair..perhaps something different could get people's attention again??

But again this thread is based on the dev's hinting towards adding a order/chaos aspect to the game not the merits or disadvantages of factions and why you Sprago like them :)

You left factions because other people were complaining? Crying, whining, complaining, ganks, and all kill! aren't going away because there's a new system in place of factions. I don't see any motivation that will bring in new people unless they can still use their 'guards' macro.

No need to apologize Sprago for mixing up what I had in mind :) I do however like that you actually put an opinion that you would like to not see factions just replaced by chaos/order rather than another misguided attempt to set people straight on why they don't like factions...

It seems more like all they wanna do is change it to two factions and maybe eliminate forcing your guild into factions. Is that right? Because without faction gear or evil/good power why bother with factions? Why not just go red? Do you have a link that gives a layout of what the plan is? Some of this sounds like it might get 4 or 5 new people in but cut my targets by 1/3 but I don't see any major revamps like that happening without a word from developers... In the meantime I'll continue breathing as though I wasn't waiting on anything

Bliss...my understanding is that Mesanna (or a dev??) mentioned it during the last address that perhaps it could be reimplemented. Would follow along with the plot lines of recent EM events. I definately wouldn't hold my breath awaiting this to happen. I just thought it was a interesting idea and could create a whole throwback kind of atmosphere. ie- rejuvenate a stale faction scene and pump up some EM events

the only thing i would change about this is allowing ppl in a guild to opt out of factions but stay w/ the guild and also to reduce the number of factions to 2. Giving non-faction players the beni's of evil/good system is not fair to those who take the path of factions as they do have limitations. (cant call guards, but still subject to pvp rules in towns such as not being allowed to cast certain spells in town) Thats all that needs to change, in my OP...Viscount Goop

Obviously you can't make everyone happy because everyone has a different opinion.

Something fresh might be fun tho....just not sure if anything faction related will be successful because people seem to really be for factions or really be against it
