Many millions of gold worth of resources have vanished from our commodity deed box.

Other items seem gone as well--but I can't confirm for certain.

    My poor crafters.

Be sure to check the securities settings of the box, friend list to the house, etc. If others can access it then it could just as likely be someone else looting it.

I'm sorry for your loss, but in my opinion there is nothing better that could have happened and I hope that billions of gold worth or resources disappear.

This coupled with the removal of BOD's and Repair Tickets are an excellent beginning to fixing the economy on the shards.

On the bright side, your crafter will have a lot of work to do now! Heck, you might make some new friends if you get out there and repair peoples equipment in person! Like the old days!

I am offering you a shoulder to cry on. I can honestly say i feel for you and weep for you.

Having on top of this all, to listen to the smug, canned response of "We do not replace missing items..." is like having a knife twisted in the wound.

What server are you on? I may be able to help you out.

    really...

    anyway...

Sadly I have had something similar happen. I moved a Comm Deed box one time... well you can guess what I didn't do... Needless to say I check those things like crazy, so I feel your pain! Especially if things did go poof in a secured box.

I have nice things. I made them myself (Except for a few plants and an Elven Forge to decorate my house that a friend gave me).

When I first logged on, I walked past a guy who handed me a million GP ticket for nothing I didn't even talk to him! I had another player give me an additional 60k, because we were discussing crafting and he though I should just buy the mats instead of collecting them on my own. Still another player gave me this awesome suite of armor that removes the requirement for reagents and has a really good physical damage resist (60-70 I think). Why do anything myself? If I stand around and look pathetic someone will twink me, right? All that stuff is still stored away in the bank. I don't use any of it.

I think you misread me. I actually like to work for what I have and I enjoy the challenge of collecting my own materials to make my own armor and weapons. I think that is one of the base issues with the game; there is no longer a sense of accomplishment. My account is only 2 months old and I have earned pretty much EVERYTHING I have. I can barely find another person to play with since everyone is grinding for the artifacts or doing PvP on Felucca. No one wants to go with me to Despise or Wrong or anyplace else. No reward there. No one wants to log for wood anymore, so you never meet anyone in the forest. Everyone uses recall/gate, instead of moongates or walking so the towns are barren of other players. It's sad and it's a huge fundamental problem that none of the active players are willing to admit, because it would take away from their bazillions of gold and their leisurely travel from here to there. That stuff won't mean squat if you can't get anyone to play.

I earn what I have and I don't want handouts. I don't think you appreciate what the economy does to the new player in general. It's extremely daunting when you go to a vendor and find out your 60k worth of gold that you've been hording for weeks and weeks means absolutely nothing.... It strips away a persons desire to achieve anything.

I actually feel sorry for those who lost their property, I really do, but I think that in the long run, removing any large amount of materials or money from the game would be good for the entire game in general. People are not using clean up to get rid of massive amounts of stuff, only the junk that's been collecting in their chests in thier castles.

Sorry, but if you think I am jealous; you are wrong. In fact, meet me on LS in Haven tonight and I'll give you all my stuff. I can make more. I'll even give you my teeny little tower that I saved up for. You can have it, because I can replace it, no QQ.

Assuming you have not moved much, if any, other stuff from the house - how close are you to the storage limit for the basic building, not including any 'extra' storage from expansions?

Hardly... I don't own any of these pixels... I rent them month to month like everyone else! lol

But after reading your comments in the other thread, your comment here made a lot more sense. I have started over several times, made it each time. Sometimes it was more fun than others...

Other times, meh... not so much

Oddly enough I can agree with you on some points. Heck, I mine for sand just to make my own bottles... All the wood boards I own I chopped... All the ore/ingots... fish steaks, etc... you get the idea...

I have an imbuer, tinker, smith, tailor, etc... totally self sufficient.... however, it still sucks if you lose things you did work for and get yourself... regardless of whom was at fault.

I absolutely agree, and I was being honest when I volunteered to assist in replacing the missing commodities. I'll spend some hours logging for another person to help out.

Seriously, let me know and I'll help! I will do whatever I can and hopefully we can be friends afterwards. I value that far more than I value anything made of pixels.

Is your house marked 'private' or marked 'public' with private doors?

I've seen people setup the later and assume people cannot get through the doors.

  19. nynyve

    To answer multiple questions:

The house is private. It has always been private.

It has over 1000 lockdowns available so space was not an issue. Also nothing has been added to the house recently in terms of items.

No the stuff is not in the moving crate.

The house has never been customized. It is a large tower.

No the chests have not been moved recently. That is until today when I checked them at player suggestions. In fact most of the chests haven't been moved in years. The position of the chests was chosen when the house was placed so that characters could run into the tower, grab stuff they needed, and run out with a minimum of disruption. Until today.

    It is located on Legends.

Maybe we should just merge the two identical threads with the same discussions going on?

Anyways, have you checked your banks? Is it only the items in the chests you lost?

    Wow.

The fact that someone can even begin to respond in this manner is depressing.

May you one day lose something in this game that you would rather not lose, and may people respond in the same way that you have responded here.

This attitude is also why you won't see any noobs, and if you do, they don't stay long. For the most part, UO has become like a Private club or Country Club...if you aren't part of the special gang, you won't be too welcome.

Sad, but i must agree this is true way too often. Fortunately, there are still players here who are eager and willing not only to earn their own way, but more importantly, to interact with others and give positive feedback and support when needed.

Where the chests located on the roof top on the wingsection of the house?...

There have been several bugs throughout the history of UO where the wings of a large tower proved vulnerable. The last one being caused by spawning gypsy camps underneath the wings. When the camps despawned, so would the items on the roof...

I remember this bug. But a couple problems:

The op is missing items inside chests, not the chest itself. The bug involved the removal of the whole item.

Also didn't they fix this bug some time ago by altering the gypsy spawns?

On the bottom floor, in the center of the back room, against the north wall. I don't think that the gypsies are responsible, since I have never seen a gypsy spawn in this area. We get reapers, harpies, gargoyles, and corpsers.

I'm uncertain how my comments on the state of the game's economy could be twisted so poorly into some sort of personal attack, but you managed to do it... poorly. Perhaps it was that I answered an individual, instead of posting a new thread. I don't know really.

I volunteered to help replace the lost materials. Heck, I even volunteered to give my stuff up (and i was serious too. I spend 4 hours in Haven on LS last night waiting for someone to show so I could give my things to them).

I will rephrase my response to the general populous:

I find it very hard to feel sympathy though, when a massive hoard of resources is lost. We as players should not be able to amass that huge a collection of things! The game was NEVER meant for it and instead of using the tools that the Devs had to control resources and manage the system, they went and made it easier to do! Houses and Banks have limited storage for a reason. The fact that they made the decision to create commodity deeds to condense resources and make storage virtually unlimited is unconscionable and probably one of the worst decisions in the history of this game as far as I can see.

Commodities were supposed to be finite and now they are infinite and out of control.

Once again, I know how hard it is to work for things and I am sorry that the fruits of those efforts was lost, but I think for the good of the game, this stuff needs to be removed in order to save crafting and give new players a chance to get properly integrated into the game.

I hope that clarifies what I am talking about and I'm sorry if anyone was offended. I really like this game and I want to offer my opinions on how it will succeed.

Nynyve, have you checked your e-mail to see if you received any kind of notification from EA of a ban or a mark against the account that owns the house? Is there any possibility that any of the commodity deeds date back several years and were purchased from a broker that specializes in the sale of bulk items? If yes, I wonder if you may have unwittingly ended up with some duped commodity deeds and a bugged quiver of infinity (i.e., one that could hold more than is normal) and they were removed by EA. If the quiver was recently worn by a character on the account that owns the house, I wonder if someone reported your character and a GM later got around to deleting it and in the process noticed other things in your house that they thought were somewhat suspicious.

You may want to try submitting a ticket through the support.ea.com site with the name of the UO account that owns the house where the items were stored, the shard it is on and the house's geographical location, and a list of the missing items and the period in which they disappeared. You might also want to emphasize that you understand EA probably won't restore them for you, but you would like to understand if the items MIGHT have been removed by EA and if so, did their removal cause any negative marks against your account. I don't know if you will get any kind of a response, but if you do get some canned response about not replacing lost items, I would definitely push back and ask once again, politely, for someone to confirm whether EA removed the items and whether that removal put your account on some sort of a "watch list" or made a negative mark of any sort against your account.

I am not in any way trying to say that you did anything wrong here, but I wonder if there's any possibility you acquired from someone else or from an IDOC items that a GM had to delete once notified or alerted to their existence. If yes and if no character from your account was on at the time, they wouldn't have had the opportunity to say anything to you, and if they felt that you probably did nothing wrong in acquiring the items (just had the bad luck to end up with "bad" items), they also might not have taken any steps to take obvious action against your account. But just to give yourself some peace of mind about whether there's something wonky about the security in your house, I think it might be worth TRYING to get some kind of an answer out of EA about whether they may have removed the items.

Sorry this is so long-winded. Best of luck to you in finding some answers and hopefully getting some of the items back.

Thanks for the clarification Ned. I actually tend to think that the majority of responses are positive when someone posts items lost. We either try to help them come to the 'how' conclusion or offer help replace some items when we can, which Ned also did.

We are also the ones who grab on to the negative posts and run with it, defending the hurt party. That has it's good and bad points. I don't tend to think "this is why newer players don't stick around." I have welcomed more than a dozen returning players in the last few months and recognized a few more that found help with their account migrations from players here.

In short, try not to umbrella it all. Just because someone has a lot of resources doesn't mean they didn't work their little pixel butts off training crafters and gathering resources for years. When someone is affected by a possible bug in game it helps to stay on topic as to what their issue is. We can help here as much as possible and highlight issues. That is the majority of the community, and not every negative post is an I e-hate UO devs, but instead a frustration on game mechanics. It's a matter of finding the daily balance of the two :)

I'll be checking my community box settings nynyve. I have just about every security setting on different boxes as there are from friends, guilds, owners to everyone.

The account is fine--I have logged it on multiple times. We have filled out a ticket with EA but they have not yet responded, and it has been over 24 hours. There has been no email from them in the past few months.

I can understand this happening to commodity deeds, but the weapons, armor, and recipes leave me puzzled. I know the quiver was normal--my husband used it frequently, but hasn't played the archer in months.

We file another ticket with EA and keep nagging them. Thanks for your advice.

Though I see what you are trying to say, I also think you are think a bit besides the box ...
As I understand, she did as I did, work herself to gather all her items, and saved then with a purpose in mind.

They way you responded I am tempted to ask:
Who are you to judge where and when people should use thier resourses, and play thier game ?

I play UO 10+ years, when I started I trained a Blacksmith, mined my own ingots for this and skilled up as the ingots came in.
Now making a new blacksmith I would mine all ingots at once, and then go sit down and skill up with a nice cup of tea and music.

It seems like you are saying I am playing wrong by doing it this way, I should use up my resources per direct as they come in ?
I cannot have a stock of all colors wood so when a customer comes with a request I can comply ?

The comm deeds take exact the same locks as the stacks of items itself, I do not understand the imbalance here ...

You are saying the game was never meant for this and yet it IS in game.

The fact you do not care for losing anything at all, doesn't meant one other doesn't, and certainly just because you think this way doesn't make it a truth or a law.

I really do think you meant well, but the way you worded it I feel is kind of insulting to the OP, as well and putting in salt in the wound ...
Like it sounds I am happy you lost all your stuff, I don't care you worked your butt off for it for years, you should not have those rewards for your efforts and now they gone .. serves you well for saving your mats and not play the game like ME.

    just my 2 cents

I encourage you and everyone else to play the game however you want. I already apologized for any possible insult and I am not inclined to do it again to assuage the delicate ego of any individual. That being said, nothing has changed my feelings on the subject of hoarding. It's one of the major reasons I left the game in '99. At that time, resources were of a finite amount and it was a major issue that the folks with Castles were hoarding reagents and screwing up the ecosystem for all the players. There are a lot of things that fall under 'playstyle' that have a detrimental effect on the game and this is one of them.

Again, play however you want. I will definitely withold my comments about playstyle and the state of the game. That's a topic for another heated discussion.
