Well if we are going to be forced into one of the 4 factions can someone briefly bring us all non-faction players upto date in faction events??

  2. The status of factions is that nobody plays them, and I seriously doubt they're going to ask us to join them for this event. Don't worry about it.

I am pretty sure the choice is in the use of blackrock! They said some have already chosen, some are choosing now, and others will choose later. When blackrock and the armageddon spell was released people went out and blew them selves up to try it and to talk to the wisp (the already chosen). People are using it now to get the cloaks from the eithreal shadow lords (the choosing now part). and the events to be discovered in the future (will have to choose then).

I agree this really does seem like the most plausible of all theories.

  5. Factions rules don't apply in tram, the event so far has only been in tram. So (unless they suddenly make part of the event fel) you would only need to go to fel to join/quit.

If you want to join a faction to see wether or not it makes any diff to the event but don't want to have any confrontation in fel, then it might be worth knowing that TB - True Britanians is the only faction whos join/quit stones are in guard zone. So you could join and recall back to tram in safety. (unless you join in front of a huge gank of enemy factioners that is)

It takes 7 rl days to quit a faction, their soon reducing this to 3 (I think). This means if you join and quit on the same day it'll still take you that long to get out.

Oh and if your in a large guild, the guild master/mistress joins/quits for everyone on the list. At the moment you can only have one character per account in factions and if you had multiple chars from an account in a guild that joins all but one would be kicked out of the guild. They are going to be changing this to allow multiple chars per account but until that happens you would need to pick one char only that you want to stay in and take your others out before their randomly booted.
Guild leaders should inform everyone if their going to join a faction because if someone doesn't want to be in it and you've already joined it, even if they quit the guild it will still take them 7 days to get out after going to the quit stone.

  6. There haven't been any changes in factions recently. A few of the rules are changing soon (sounds like it will be later this month) to help with getting more people into factions, but that's about it.

I can't find any good information on the history/lore of factions and haven't played long enough myself to know the whole story behind the various factions. I believe PlayerSkillFTW may have posted something but I can't find it. Maybe he will have better luck digging it up and can post a link. [IMG] In the meantime, try this section of the main UO website for a bit of the background: Factions Info on UO.com .

Stratics has a forum for factions issues (Factions Forum), so you can always go there to take a look, plus it's a good place to post any factions-related questions you might have. There's also a couple of pages on the Stratics site that cover the basics of factions. ( Stratics Factions Pages )

Poo has a very helpful Faction Tutorial posted on the Sonoma forum.

The main UO website also has a section on factions where you can see who has the most kill points on each shard and kind of get an idea of which shards currently have active factions.

  7. What's on UO.com (what you linked to) is basically the Faction backstory.

Minax invaded, and basically won, "taking over" Britannia. Nystul created Trammel, so we could escape to it. Thus, there is an RP explanation for the Trammel/Felucca split.

Dupre was supposed to lead the effort to reclaim Felucca: That's the True Brit. Faction.

The Council of Mages blamed Nystul's magic for the devastation of Felucca (Nystul blamed Minax) and objected to it. They also objected to a secret meeting between Nystul and the Time Lord. So, they splintered off, switching to Magincia (in Felucca anyway). And that's the Council of Mages faction.

The Shadowlords Faction was created, for evil and mysterious reasons, by a fellow named Ramuz. (Years later, he was fought by players as part of the post-AoS EM events, and the last we heard he was in the Lord British's castle dungeon, which we never get to see.)

In some cases, you can plug any of these names into UOGuide.com for some more information.

  8. Thank you for the additional information, Galen. I finally found the Biography Index on Stratics, so I'm going to try to do some more reading and see if I can expand my UO knowledge just a smidgeon. [IMG]

  10. Hey you, since you're here, how about taking a shot at answering the questions in the post that started this thread? What's your take on the "choosing sides" issue and what do you think Draconi meant when he said there will be rewards for participating in the war with faction characters?

(P.S. Trap remover #3 should get through the pin-cushion stage tonight and be ready to help with sigil transportation in a couple of days. Need ingots and bolts for the other ones. Might be trying to cajole you into some mining and lumberjacking and Faustis into getting feathers. Haha)
