cloaks of corruption, what have we found out about them?

Discussion in 'UHall' started by dorkuberalles, Apr 18, 2008.

  1. i've searched many posts, and haven't found out any real info about them, except that it looks like their effect has changed halfway through the event.

so what info has any of you found out with them? what happens when you put it on? is it different if you are blackrock infected or not? what about karma? how about giving blackrock to the shadowlords?

let's compile what we know and see what we can uncover.

Its gonna be a turn in item like everything else from events.

  3. that would be disappointing if that's all there is to it.

even orc masks had some utility.

    Very simple.

Cloaks drain your stats down slow. Cloaks drain your karma down slow. From glorious to Dread very fast.

They used to be actually beneficial to any non-paladin because they used to replenish mana at an amazing rate. So while your stats (hps, mana, stamina) were draining slowly, you were getting mana back very fast. Great for characters who don't have much mana regen.

I do believe most people said they nerfed the mana replenishig, so the only effects they have on you are negative. I guess the only good thing about them is that you can get your necromancer down fast in karma. I guess thats about it.

  5. I put one on yesterday and my mana was replenishing faster than usual...cant say if it's different than before as I didn't get any of the cloaks till the past couple days...but it was a noticeable increase in mana regain...but my stamina and hit points were dropping at the same time

  6. with my characters that are not infected, the cloak just drains them, regardless of karma, and fame. I'm working on getting a cloak for my infected character, that's on another shard.

  7. Here is how it works....

    1) drop your mana down to nil before wearing.
    2) put on cloak
    3) you lose ten HP and regain up to 100 mana.

all other properties with cloak are the *negative* effects that continue on as long as the cloak is still worn. (its cursed and inherently evil..hence the karma loss and neg regens)

There is a great benefit for anyone who happens to want to raise their Meditation skill. Throw on a robe and take a little stroll or just sit in a chair in your house or whatever and watch the Med fly! I'm sure it would work for Focus too (but what doesn't?) [IMG]

By the way, you can see from my avatar what happens when you wear the Cloak too long...I used to be a blonde-haired, blue-eyed Paladin... [IMG]

Arrrr, too bad ye can't put it on yer pet to train vet!

  11. I thought that using the cloak would be a great way to train up healing.
After awhile it turned the normally docile monsters in New Haven aggressive on me.

  12. from what i've observed, sometimes the cloak lets you cast spells/specials for free, but it seems random. i've yet to see it fill mana at the expense of health though.

If the only assured way of getting one is by using blackrock, surely they are worth at least as much as a piece of blackrock, if not slightly more for the trouble of getting one?

  15. INTO WEEK 4 AND THEY ARE VERY COMMON

Not for everyone they're not. Since each one only drops 3, there is a limited number of them. That number is significantly less than the shields, swords or threads.

Either they changed the code where people using blackrock are no longer guaranteed to get a cloak or more than 3 are being given out.

I was attacking a shadow lord with my archer, no blackrock, and there was a guy beside me doing the same. Of course here comes the lazy people that run up cast the spell and stand back. The SL was at near full health when they did, so that dropped him down to approx 12% health. which means me and the other guy could have only done about 6-8% damage each, so we shouldn't have gotten cloaks, but yet we both received one. So either two of the casters didn't receive one or more than 3 were given out. I am all for not giving out cloaks to people that ONLY cast the spell and then stand back, they should be forced to actually hit the SL at least once.

[IMG] why shouldn't they be common ...

    ?

Then again ... how common will they be ... once the turn-in begins ?
and AFTER ... they quit spawning ... oooo [IMG]
and AFTER the turn in (perhaps like the "traders") ...

what if ... they're the "key" ... the uber ... the "best" thing to have ...

like ... the only way to disguise yourself ...
    to foil the Shadowlords plans?

A corrupted cloak ... a piece of black rock ... a thread of life and a thread fate ... a planeshield and a planesword
    and nothing more ...

    Just saying ...
why shouldn't they be common ...

  18. My archer got this effect that is different to that all say:

    Mana go down very fast
    Stamina go down very fast
but HP is always at 100%

i play europa and i used cloak while in fighting sapwn in moonglow (the day before)

From looking at the rate of drops and how regen items counter the effects, looks like the cloak is around -6 or so regen. So, if you have +7 regen you will drop for 1 tick but will regenerate back before next. My necro has no problems countering the effects between suit and using one of the forms.

  20. I've gotten quite a few cloaks without blackrock, and for an archer especially, it's not that hard to bump the 3rd damager off the top 3 list. I did the math on how much damage I do with one that's at 1/4 life, and figured I do around 10-12k damage by the time it's dead, going by the number of bolts used and average damager per bolt. Basically you're doing the same thing in bumping the 3rd on the list off.

That'll teach them to stand back and let everyone else do the work for them. [IMG]

I've gotten some without archery OR Blackrock, but only a VERY limited number.

    That's the price I pay I reckon.

  23. I do the spell, and the damage, thus assuring a cloak...but beware, if you are on the opposite side of the fence while doing the spell, it may not do damage to the ethereal.

  24. from what i gather, the ninja forms can compensate the health and stamina drains a lot easier than the necro forms. the drain seems like a random number, sometimes it'll take 1 hitpoint a tick, sometimes up to 15.

    Not true.

I had the cloak on, near the rift entrance in regular moonglow, and stuff would attract to me.

Regularly, all of the creatures would attack me after a while (and id die).

So these cloaks cant be handed in.. I love it! The coming publish will free up item space and in return I have just lost a whole load more. Will any great number have a use, though?

Since Shadowlords stopped spawning for a while, the idea these would be turned in seemed not terribly likely. However after they started spawning more regularly and cloaks were dropping fairly often, it seemed like obtaining a stockpile would have some use. What am I supposed to do with these (literally) 100 cloaks!

so basically the swords and shields are worth more than the cloaks which a just about worthless! what about we that worked hard for many cloaks? sickening. how about the next time u dont have to tell us what the rewards are but save us alot of time getting the hard stuff which is useless. hey a rat coin is worth more now

Since the new pub hasn't hit the shards yet do you think you could alter this? I mean come on why did we spend all this time killing shadowlords? For a cloak that is going to be literally worthless now. Even if these do have a purpose why not allow us to trade them in if we want to? It just seems really really silly and almost a slap in the face to almost everyone who attended this event. Now the stealthers who didn't do ANYTHING but loot the entire event are the ones who reap the most rewards? That's really really dumb......

While nothing really was said as to what can and cant be traded in, the very first item I got was a cloak of corruption. I did *assume* they would be a part of the items that would be able to be handed in. Considering that players with lots of blackrock - and theres a fair few of us - can get lots of cloaks, we assumed we had some sort of advantage over players with only a small amount.

Just look at the situation overall - damn hard enemy that is very central to this storyline - takes lots of people to kill - gives a unique reward to 3 people but also 2, 3, even 4 at a time can spawn and players can accumulate many of these cloaks.

I bet blackrock turns out to be useless too. Har har har!

I never thought they would be turn ins. The other stuff felt more like turn-in items to me. I guess though if you farmed 100 cloaks it would feel like a turn-in item. What a horrible grind to kill all those crumbots to get to the shadowlord to use the blackrock to get the cloak only to end up with a bad-guys cloak. In a year or two I think they will sell as rare.

Who knows where the next stage of the event will take the cloak? Maybe it will have some benefits in the non-ethereal realm. Maybe this is the "turn-in item" seemingly of no value, that has value??

hehehehe. Yea, turn-in's are great everyone said. Since you can only play 1 charater at a time, 1 cloak is all you need. The other 99 cost you how much? You either paid 200-300k, per black rock, or spent 1/2 to a few hours mining it.

Everyone loved the turn in, and that it was a secret what the rewards would be, and then ASSUMED, that ALL event items would be turned in. You all said, YES, THIS IS THE WAY WE LIKE IT. If you were not complaing about the system before, then You have no reason to complain now. [IMG]
