I love to collect things, but sometimes its hard to know if I have everything or the whole "set".
So I came up with this idea...

Gray chests (Think King's Collection styled boxes) that are sold by NPC collectors across the various cities.
For example, the NPC collector in Malas sells a Liche Spawn Collection chest.
And an NPC collector in Magincia sells a Magincia Rubble Collection chest.
And an NPC collector in some other town sells a Peerless Collection chest.

These chests would be like a Master List. Showing all the available items belonging to a certain group of items but they would all be grayed out. Mousing over them would tell you the items name.
Since these contain spoilers or otherwise ruin the surprise of drops they could be for serious collectors only and cost 1 million gold each or whatever.
The objective would be to collect and fill all of these items. Once you have the actual item in the chest the grayed out item disappears and the real item is there in color.
The chests can say like "4 out of 18 items collected" when you mouse over them.
And once you collect and put in all 18 or however many items there are for that set, the chest transforms from a dull faded gray chest to a beautifully designed vibrant bright chest. Something so beautiful it belongs in a museum!
Like red with gold trim. Or blue with gold trim. Or purple with gold trim. Or white with gold trim. Like the king's collection chests but different brighter colors.
And the box can say something like "<Your Characters Name> collected all 18 items!".
So there would be like 20 types of collectable boxes all with their own different unique color once complete.
And once you collect all 20, with the same characters name on them, you can turn them in for some ultimate prize. Either a title above your name saying Collector. Or some special item the devs come up with. ACCOUNT BOUND???
It would be a long-term goal for players, encouraging them to go back and explore older content to get the items they need.

Here are some more "collection" type chest ideas.
Blacksmith BOD Rewards Chest (32 items to collect?)
Tailor BOD Rewards Chest (37 items to collect?)
Fish Chest (? Too lazy to look up how many)
    Fishing Treasure Chest (?)
    Spring Cleaning Rewards Chest (?)
Spring Decor Collection Chest (12 items to collect?)
    Holiday <Year> Chests (?)
Doom Gauntlet Artifacts Chest (33 items to collect?)
Champion Spawns Chest (? Over 30? No clue :p You get the idea though. Dev's job to figure it out lol)
    Legendary Powerscrolls Chest
    Daily Rares Chest
    Doom Stealables Chest
    Tokuno Stealables Chest
    Museum of Britian Chest
    Museum of Vesper Chest
    Blackthorn Artifacts Chest
1st Year Veteran Reward Chest, 2nd Year Veteran Reward Chest, 3rd Year Veteran Rewards Chest, etc. (These wouldn't be needed for the ultimate turn in prize/title)

Heck they should even add a new blade to chop off the heads of every type of monster in the game and have a chest of heads for every single creature in UO. It would be like 300 heads required lol! Special title: Legendary Creature Slayer or somesuch.
I guess it would be too hard to draw all that art. So how about just a blade that remembers what you slayed. Wouldn't even have to have a master list or display anything it could just say like 0/300 creatures killed. You figure out what you havn't killed yet lofl :p Maybe go ask an NPC for a "hint" and he can see the list, what you don't have, and blurt out a fun fact like "I see you have slayed a troll but have you ever killed one in the snow? Hinting at "Frost Troll".
Ok I'll shut up now :)

How about adding a system that keeps track of accomplishments? These accomplishments could include numbers and types of mobs slain, items collections or anything that is collectable and have it not only be displayed in game but also in something like MYUO.

    I like it.
I do not think it sounds complex at all. A lot of other games do this, even non-mmo games.
I love the idea that the box transforms into a beautiful box once completing. I personally wouldn't use it, as I do not care much for collecting. But this would be a great addition I would love to see ingame.

    Little effort collecting ideal.

Just turn back on the blackrock infestation. Give the chest a trash turn in points based off creature toughness. Then improve the turn in reward list with spiffy new shinies.

Added bonus the script miners get back the pucker factor.

your assuming that somewhere someone kept track of all the stuff they put out and when.
from what ive seen i dont think the people at the wheel of this ride keep detailed logs of stuff like that.
not that that is a good or bad thing, just simply stating the impression that ive gotten over the years and from conversations.

The main problem with the idea as presented is, all those set items end up hidden inside a box. I want to display them, use them for deco, etc. *Especially* rubble. (and btw, even with just one of each rubble, that'd be one insanely heavy box, with a good deal more than 125 items :p).

I'd rather have something like a "checklist", with a gump that listed all items in a set, and checkboxes next to it. Let players create the lists, rather than selling predefined ones. As I collect items in a set, I check them off. Maybe to the right side of the gump, each line could have a button that would open a picture of the item (or if no picture is set, it opens a "target" icon and you click on one of that item to set it). *Don't require me to target an item to add it, though, as some items may be hard to find! Let me type in the names!* These should also be copyable. They also should be able to separately set anyone/friends/coowners/owner for viewing and separately for editing. This would allow players to create sellable lists, museums to display lists, scavenger hunts of items to find...

A rough mockup I just threw together using elements of the "can't log in" screen (since that's all I can get access to at the moment :p)
