Consensual dueling!

I was traveling through Britain when I happened upon this curious NPC.

Then I had a great idea. What if there was a system to challenge players to duels anywhere in the game? Trammel, Tokuno, Ilsh, wherever. If the other player did not want to accept he doesn't have to, and players would have the ability to ignore challenges. There would be no looting rights, and they could limit insurance loss or negate it altogether. They do this is WoW (inb4 WoW is a crappy game, we hate WoW) a lot, and it's pretty fun!

Also, you could group up in a party, and then challenge other players in a different party for 2vs2, 3vs3, etc.

This would be great for tournaments, because players would not have to leave their guilds, and the tournaments could be held in trammel.

Well, what do you all think? Would you support this idea? I think it would be awesome! =D

  2. never seen this NPC, must be a EM thing on your shard. Pretty neat, and your idea is also pretty good.

    ...

If you're going to add in consentual dueling, DO NOT allow it "just anywhere" as personally I do NOT want to deal with the spamming (hated it in WoW, would hate it in UO).

Instead build dueling pits in various towns as well as using the existing ones and set the system to work in those locations.

I solved this in my idea with an option to ignore challenges, just like you can ignore guild invites!

Yes the duel areas idea is a good one, everywhere would be annoying. There isnt much dueling in uo fel, its pretty much gank guild vs gank guild on the shards i play. (or group of blues jumping a red, or vice versa.) Would be a great way to prove someones pvp skills.

There is some degree of consensual dueling in tram.... in some guilds/groups... I know in the "rp" circle there is quite a bit of "consensual dueling depending on the group your in.

That said..... I would certainly like to see some sort of "dueling pit/arena" type thing ingame... I think it would be good.

No Fel is NOT the answer... Fel in my opinion is well... filled with cheaters, hackers, and other scum... Most of the time Fel "duels" turns into a who has more Fel friends gank... not really a true duel...

Besides with the differences in being in Factions vs not being in factions.... using faction arties and not wearing faction arties.... it can hardly be considered anything even remotely close to "fair" duel. Though I doubt a dueling pit/arena would solve much of anything it would give some folk a place to hang out and test their skills. Might also be fun if there were some sort of scoring but that can hardly seem fair.... I could think of a few who would "abuse" that...

For some reason I keep thinking we use to have a duel arena.

At least I know one was planned, but I could swear at one point we actually had an arena and I think I participated lol but my memory isn't the greatest so ...........

Come to think of it, there was something that use to look almost like it was meant to be a bagball court oO if that makes any sense and I think thats where we dueled.

Maybe this is just the mutterings of an old man going senile though, if it is don't mind me.

Edited to Add: YAY for me not being senile lol.

Wow that design document looks like a B*TCH to code. Probably why it was never implemented. Instead, we got bagball...

There was a dueling system pretty much the same which the OP described on a freeshard.. You could allow/disallow pots, summons, certain skills/spells, special moves. Pretty much everything. The max. amount of players on one of the dueling pits was 10 (5v5 max.). You could choose from 1v1, 2v2, 3v3, 4v4, 5v5 OR you could choose to fight 1v2, 1v3, 2v3 etc. if you wanted. There was also a duel chart stone which showed 150 players' wins, losses and displayed ranking.

If it was done on a freeshard, it could be done on the official shards as well :)
