Considering coming back

Hey all, I've been gone for about a year or so...left right before SA, has it been longer or shorter than a year? Bah...who knows?

Anyway, thinking of coming back. Played on Legends, never got to be anyone uber powerful or super important, just played for the crafting, some killing, and the thrill of fishing :thumbup1:

Warcraft has bored me with the constant grinding for gear, Eve annoyed me with the lack of things to do without PvPing...which I hate...so I'm considering coming back, grabbing my boat, and hitting the water. Maybe an axe as well, who knows?

So, what's changed? Any improvements to fishing? How's crafting doing with this imbuing system, is it even worth trying to craft a good bow or armor?

Come back! I just came back a few days ago after being gone a year and love it. I remember why I played UO for so many years.

  4. If you are fishing you will get white pearl and delicate scales which you can sell (especially the white pearl) as they are used for a new skill (imbuing).

You'll always be curious untill you try it out.

UO is even worse then drugs.

What about the crafting? Is there a place for grinding out those freaking elves for special fletching (for example) tools or has imbuing killed that particular niche?

Any other changes to fishing other than a better market for pearls?

It boils down to one thing. There is no other game like UO.
Item grind has hit UO too, but with the new Imbuing system to make magic items it should be reduced to something acceptable after more players get their skill up and start selling and competing price wise.

There's problems, yes. But there's still no other game like UO. The other games, you don't think about the problems quite like UO, they have bugs but that's it on problems. But that's exactly because they are not like UO.

Good to hear that you are considering coming back ! Welcome back !

On another note, I just wanted to comment on UO's strengths which make a player want to play it or come back to it.

Why don't developers just work on fine tuning them rather than following other games' mainstream featuring ?

I am referring to focusing so much of UO's game play on items.
As the OP says, "has bored me with the constant grinding for gear",,,,,,, well, we do have a problem in UO also with too much focus on items, don't we ??

Perhaps, rather than mimicking other games, it would do better to UO if the developers gradually shifted the focus away from items and more towards skills ??

The OP also says "annoyed me with the lack of things to do without PvPing".

Then, why not make an effort to fix whatever problems might be in UO about PvP (scripting, hacking and cheating in general as well as balancing issues) so that those players looking for a good, competitive and healthy PvP challenge may really look at UO as their #1 option ?

Rather than spending resources to design and create new items which only mess up balancing more, I would think that using whatever resources might be currently available to actually strengthen UO's good points over competitor games perhaps, would be spent well.

At least, that's my view of it.

I have been routinely asked by friends and people walking by the soulforge to imbue them stuff or craft something and they offer payment. This is like the good old days of smithy. Crafters have a life again in making weapons and armor for people.

I like getting in touch with my fellow country folk and finding out what they are fighting and what they need on their armor. UO is fun again.

In regard to runics, I sometimes use them for specific purposes like getting a property on the piece before imbuing, but mostly use the lowest end runic tool. This means the lowest end runic tools are now useful in the game and aren't just thrown away. This also means the BOD system became more important and also the ML quests.

There is more life in our land. Come see.

Do it, maybe unless you only pvp. But hopefully that will improve with new faction system.

So, what I'm reading here is imbuing is kinda required now to make good weapons. Is there a market for down-stream production? Making the base weapon or armor for imbuers?

Aye. The Imbuers are not making money, it is the suppliers. Mining and ljacking provide the magic gems and two of the most sought Imbue Ingreds - abmyssal clorh (mage armor) and blk crttalline rock (skill +15 Imbues). and just doing a short Abyss run normally gets you 300K plus of special ingreds to vendor sell to Imbuers.

Recently they changed the Imbue system to allow imbuing "enhanced" items, so there is a very good marker for Exception runic crafted & enhanced arms/armor. The drawback is the buyer cannot tell if the enhance item was enhanced prior to change, or after - so it's "Caveat Emptor" (i clearly state on emy vendors if an item is enhance Pre or post change).

To get the full benefit of Imbuing you need to be a Gargoyle with high loyalty and 120 Imbue skill. The PS120 is cheap or easy to get from quest - BUT the training is VERY expensive and time consuming.

And one of the biggest money makers are the BOD runners, again after all this time. The average price for a Powder of Fortification is 200K.

WB to Legends - small but vibrant community here:)

  13. If you want to **** and moan, not to mention ***** and complain, about items yet again, why don't you make yet another of your idiotic threads about it instead of derailing someone else's thread on a completely unrelated topic? You didn't even answer his freaking question. That's pretty damn rude if you ask me.

To the OP, crafting is at an all time high with Imbuing now in the picture, however the high end runics aren't anywhere near as sought after as they used to be, and can even be extremely hard to sell, even at half their normal price. Work an imbuer up to legendary, then go to town with it. You'll enjoy it.

there's no one in the game.

  15. That's incorrect. According to the last report, subs are higher now than they were prior to SA's release.

Who's report? EA's? Is it published somewhere?
